SoundHound AI makes money mainly by licensing voice and conversational AI to businesses. Its filings identify three revenue categories: product royalties, service subscriptions, and monetization. Royalties and subscriptions are the core streams; monetization has chiefly come from advertising and referrals tied to its music-identification app. SoundHound sells software and services—not the cars, kiosks, or other devices that may use its technology.
What does SoundHound AI sell?
SoundHound provides software that lets companies build voice interfaces and conversational AI into products and services. Its offerings include the Houndify platform, automotive and consumer-electronics voice AI, restaurant tools such as Smart Answering and Smart Ordering, enterprise virtual-assistance applications, and OASYS, an agent platform the company says can support customer and employee transactions, tasks, and workflows.
These systems can be used through interfaces such as in-vehicle systems, phones, kiosks, drive-thrus, TVs, chat, and smart devices. In general, a business or product maker pays SoundHound to use the technology, integrate it, or provide an AI-powered service to its own customers.

How does SoundHound AI make money?
SoundHound’s filings group revenue into three categories. The distinction is who pays and what they pay for: product makers pay royalties for technology embedded in products, service providers pay subscription fees for applications and services, and advertising or referral activity generates monetization revenue.

Product royalties from cars and other devices
A product maker can embed SoundHound’s technology in a product such as an automotive infotainment system or consumer-electronics device. SoundHound then earns royalties under the applicable arrangement rather than selling the finished product to consumers. Revenue may vary with the number of products or users and the terms governing use over time.
Subscriptions for business services
Service subscriptions cover applications such as customer service, restaurant ordering, content, appointments, voice commerce, autonomous workflows, and IT systems analysis. A contract may charge a fixed fee or vary with measures such as usage, queries, or users. SoundHound also performs customer-specific implementation work to configure or customize its platform. Its filings say customers generally receive contractual access to Houndify rather than taking possession of that software. Amelia software may be hosted as SaaS or licensed for on-premise deployment, with different licensing and revenue-recognition arrangements.

Advertising and music-app referrals
The monetization category is not evidence that broad consumer transactions or lead generation already produce substantial revenue. SoundHound’s FY2025 filing says monetization then came from its music-identification application, mainly advertising impressions and, to a lesser extent, referrals to music stores and its premium music application. In the Q2 2026 filing, management said product royalties and subscriptions made up most revenue and the music app contributed only a small amount to the monetization pillar.

SoundHound is primarily a business-to-business company. Its reported markets include automotive, consumer electronics, restaurants, retail, healthcare, financial services, and telecommunications. Buyers and partners may include automakers, product manufacturers, restaurant groups, and enterprises seeking conversational customer service or internal workflow tools.

In its Q2 2026 materials, SoundHound reported deals or expansions involving a healthcare system, a Chinese automotive infotainment software company, Stellantis, Hyundai, Ruby Tuesday, Five Guys, IHOP, Jersey Mike’s, Habit Burger, Red Lobster, and Torchy’s Tacos. These announcements do not establish that every relationship generated material revenue in that quarter; some customer descriptions are anonymous, and contract values are often not stated. The company does not disclose a complete contemporary revenue breakdown by customer industry or product line in the cited materials.
How much revenue does SoundHound make, and is it profitable?
SoundHound reported $168.920 million in revenue for fiscal 2025, compared with $84.693 million for fiscal 2024, and a 42.4% GAAP gross margin for fiscal 2025. Those figures show growth, but they do not by themselves mean the company was profitable.

For the quarter ended June 30, 2026, SoundHound reported $61.897 million in revenue, up 45% year over year, and a GAAP net loss of $42.817 million. It also reported an adjusted EBITDA loss of $9.607 million; that is a non-GAAP measure and should not be conflated with the GAAP net loss. Revenue growth is not the same as net profitability.

What recent developments affect the business model?
SoundHound has expanded its offerings through acquisitions and into agentic AI. Its investor-relations page records the completion of its LivePerson acquisition on September 4, 2026, an OASYS Edge announcement on September 24, and a Kia Sorento deployment in India on September 30. These are dated company announcements, not independent assessments of product performance. They indicate expansion in products and deployments, but do not by themselves establish how much revenue those developments will generate.
