Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds uses two separate content channels: free game updates and paid Season Passes. Free updates add selected racers, machines, modes, gadgets, festivals, and other systems to the game. A Season Pass delivers themed crossover packs with playable characters, a vehicle, a course or world, music, emotes, and sound content. The passes are separate purchases, and announced dates can change.
The game launched on September 25, 2025, for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch, with a later Nintendo Switch 2 version. The Steam and Epic Games Store versions followed on September 26, 2025. SEGA’s launch and update announcements are collected in its June 2025 release announcement and launch release.
How seasons and updates are delivered
SEGA describes a continuing content plan built around free updates and Season Pass products. These are not two names for the same thing:
Outdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down
One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstall- Free updates: automatically expand the game for owners of the base game. They can add racers, vehicles, festivals, songs, modes, gadgets, and matchmaking or computer-racer features.
- Season Passes: paid collections of crossover packs. Each announced crossover pack generally pairs playable racers with a themed machine and course, then adds music, emotes, and sound effects.
SEGA said new content would arrive through both channels after launch, while also warning that content and timing are subject to change. A Season Pass 1 or Season Pass 2 purchase is therefore not required to receive every gameplay-system update. Conversely, owning the base game does not grant the paid crossover packs.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Season Pass 1 and Season Pass 2 are separate products. Buying individual packs also does not satisfy a promotion requiring ownership of both passes for a dual-pass Super Shadow bonus.

The Sonic Prime racers are included at Season Pass 1’s launch. The other crossover packs are the announced schedule represented by the Xbox windows and SEGA’s regional DLC notice. In addition to the named racers, vehicles, and courses, SEGA describes Season Pass packs as including music, emotes, and sounds.
What “playable” means for Season Pass 1
Steve, Alex, Creeper, SpongeBob, Patrick, PAC-MAN, Team Ghost, Mega Man, Proto Man, the four Turtles, Aang, and Katara are presented as racers in their respective packs. The vehicle names in the table are separate themed machines, not replacements for the character roster. A player who wants only one crossover can buy that pack where it is sold, but individual-pack ownership does not count as owning both Season Pass products.
What Season Pass 2 adds
SEGA’s Season Pass 2 announcement initially names Godzilla and Evangelion and promises four more crossover packs. It does not yet provide a complete racer, vehicle, course, music, or release-date list for all six packs. Treat the two named franchises as announced Season Pass 2 headliners rather than assuming every pack’s final roster or launch date.

Free updates are more than crossover racers
Axel free update
On August 26, 2026, the free Axel update added the Axel racer, the Devolada Yellow Jack machine, two jukebox songs, and a limited Axel Festival. This is a useful example of free content: it adds a character and vehicle without being identified as a Season Pass crossover pack.
Season 2 one-year free-update program
SEGA’s October 2026 reveal describes a year of free updates containing several different kinds of additions:

Are Minecraft, SpongeBob, PAC-MAN, Mega Man, TMNT, Avatar, Godzilla, and Evangelion playable?
| Franchise | Playable status established by the announcements | Named racers or qualification |

| Minecraft | Yes, in the announced Season Pass 1 pack | Steve, Alex, and Creeper |
| SpongeBob SquarePants | Yes, in the announced Season Pass 1 pack | SpongeBob and Patrick |

| Evangelion | Announced for Season Pass 2 | The announcement names the franchise but does not provide a final racer list. |
For Season Pass 1, “playable” refers to the racers named in the pack announcements. For Godzilla and Evangelion, the available information confirms crossover packs are planned, but not which characters or machines will be playable. Wait for the individual pack notices before treating a particular character as confirmed.

1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesHow Travel Rings change every race
CrossWorlds is not a three-lap race around an unchanging circuit. Travel Rings are the central course system: after lap one, racers pass through a ring and move from the original course into a transformed CrossWorld. On lap two, the environment changes and gates can trigger Frenzy events. Lap three returns racers to the original course, but the route is no longer identical because new shortcuts, obstacles, Rings, and items affect the run to the finish. SEGA calls Travel Rings the game’s defining feature in its launch release.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
This structure explains why a crossover course is more than a visual skin. A player must learn where a ring sends the field, which lap-two gates can start a Frenzy, and how lap-three changes alter item lines and shortcuts. New gadgets, vehicles, and character abilities therefore interact with a course whose tactical demands change by lap.
Platforms, multiplayer, and the base game’s scale
The supported launch platforms are PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch, with Nintendo Switch 2 support added later. Steam and the Epic Games Store received the game on September 26, 2025. SEGA lists cross-play, online races for up to 12 players, and local play for one to four players.
The launch game contains 23 Sonic-universe characters. It also offers more than 70 gadgets and more than 70,000 machine combinations, so a Season Pass is adding to an already broad customization system rather than supplying the only meaningful variety.
Which edition should you buy?
| Buying route | What it gives you | Best fit | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Base game | The launch game and all free updates released for your platform | Players who want the racing system, free characters, and modes without committing to crossover DLC | Season Pass packs are not included. |
| Digital Deluxe Edition | Base game plus Season Pass content identified for that edition | Players who already want Season Pass 1 content at purchase | Season Pass 2 is separate. |
| Individual Season Pass 1 pack | Only the selected crossover pack | Players interested in one franchise rather than the complete pass | Individual packs do not qualify for a dual-pass Super Shadow bonus. |
| Season Pass 2 | Its announced crossover packs, including Godzilla and Evangelion plus four more planned packs | Players who want the second wave of crossover content | It is a separate purchase from Season Pass 1 and from the free updates. |
| Physical Nintendo Switch edition | A physical copy of the base game | Players who prefer a cartridge or local resale | Check the region, stock, and whether the listing is the standard game or a bundle. |
SEGA documents a physical Nintendo Switch edition and Japan-only Amazon.co.jp game bundles. Those bundles are region-specific and should not be treated as universal editions. Prices, stock, and physical availability vary by country; the announcements do not establish one worldwide price. Before buying, confirm the platform, account region, included pass, and whether Season Pass 2 is listed separately.
A practical checklist before purchasing DLC
- Identify the content channel. If the item is a mode, gadget set, festival, or character listed in a free-update notice, it should not require a Season Pass. If it is one of the named crossover packs, it is paid DLC.
- Match the pass to the franchise. Minecraft through Avatar Legends belong to the announced Season Pass 1 lineup. Godzilla and Evangelion belong to the announced Season Pass 2 lineup.
- Check the exact platform store. Cross-play does not make a purchase automatically transferable between every storefront. Confirm the platform edition and account used for DLC.
- Read the pack description. Look for the named racer, machine, course, music, emotes, and sounds. Do not infer unannounced characters from a franchise name.
- Check the date and region. Season Pass 1 windows run from Q4 2025 through October 2026 in the cited Xbox listing, while Season Pass 2 is announced for fall 2026. Release timing can be revised.
- Decide whether you need the bonus. Buying packs one at a time may be cheaper for a narrow interest, but it does not meet a requirement to own both passes for a dual-pass Super Shadow bonus.
The key distinction to remember
CrossWorlds seasons are a delivery framework, not a single subscription. Free updates keep the base game growing with systems such as Duel, Super Slot, new gadgets, festivals, and selected racers. Season Pass 1 and Season Pass 2 are paid, separate collections of themed crossover packs. Travel Rings then make those additions matter on track by changing the world and available routes between laps. Check SEGA’s latest notice for the final pack dates and contents before purchasing, because the published schedule remains subject to change.
