Saarthi is a prototype AI companion designed to remember user-approved personal context—such as goals, study difficulties and deadlines—and use it to tailor planning suggestions. Its creator describes an architecture using Gemma through Ollama for local inference and MongoDB for stored memories, plus a demonstration of the main experience with the internet disconnected. Those are creator-reported capabilities, not independently verified results or a guarantee that every installation or feature works offline.
What Saarthi is designed to do
Saarthi is a project submission to the Hacktoberfest Weekend Challenge: Build for a Friend. Its intended user is someone balancing exams, projects, learning plans, personal goals and deadlines. The idea is to make planning advice take account of that ongoing context rather than treating each question as an isolated request.
For example, a user might ask, “What should I focus on today?” If Saarthi has relevant, approved context about an approaching exam, a difficult subject and other commitments, it is intended to use that information when suggesting priorities. These example questions come from the project article; they are not evidence of measured user demand.

How its memory flow is supposed to work
- A user shares context. In the creator’s example, someone mentions a DBMS exam on Friday and difficulty with normalization.
- Saarthi identifies candidate memories. The system may infer information such as an upcoming exam, a weak area or a possible priority.
- The user reviews whether to save it. The creator says Saarthi asks before permanently remembering inferred information. The project article does not establish how every kind of information or every interface state is handled.
- Accepted context is stored. MongoDB is described as the memory store. The project article says records can include a category, importance, confidence, source, status, and creation and update times.
- Relevant context informs a later answer. Saarthi retrieves pertinent memories and passes them to Gemma to generate a personalized suggestion.
The design also includes a “Why this?” interaction: the creator says users can see which remembered context influenced a recommendation. If a user later says a previously upcoming project submission is complete, Saarthi is intended to update that event’s status rather than keep a second, contradictory memory. These are descriptions of intended behavior, not independently tested implementation findings.

Technology and the offline demonstration
The project article names Next.js and TypeScript for the application, MongoDB for memory, Gemma served through Ollama for local inference, and Tailwind CSS and Framer Motion for the interface. The creator characterizes the system as deliberately small, without a large agent framework or complicated microservice architecture.
The creator also says the main AI experience was demonstrated with the internet disconnected. That supports describing an offline demonstration, not claiming that every feature, deployment or future installation works without a connection. Saarthi also has a linked hosted demo, and the project article does not establish how that deployment handles user data. The project description alone is not enough to conclude that all data always stays on a user’s device.

What prospective users should verify
The project description does not state a Gemma variant, quantization, minimum system requirements, expected response times, data-retention policy, encryption details, account model or threat model. It also does not report an independent security or privacy audit. Those unknowns matter before entrusting a tool with sensitive information about health, finances, relationships or personal schedules.
- Check the repository and the specific installation or deployment to understand where prompts and saved memories go.
- Confirm whether you can inspect, correct and delete memories, and what happens to stored data when you stop using the application.
- Find out which model is used and what computer resources it requires before planning a local installation.
- Test the actual functions you need while offline; an offline demonstration of the core experience does not establish that every feature works disconnected.

What the project does—and does not—establish
Saarthi’s distinguishing idea is user-reviewed persistent context for personal planning, paired with an explanation of which memories influenced a suggestion. The project article offers a concrete description of that design and its named technology stack, but its capability, privacy and offline claims remain creator-reported. It does not provide enough information to recommend particular hardware or to treat Saarthi as a mature service.
