Keep your delivery-platform tax profile aligned with your restaurant’s actual GST registration and classification—but do not use a profile edit to choose a GST rate. For restaurant services outside specified premises, the Ministry of Finance stated on 1 April 2025 that GST is 5% without input tax credit whether the restaurant supplies the service directly or through an electronic commerce operator such as Swiggy or Zomato. The public sources reviewed do not establish button-by-button instructions for changing GST details in either platform’s partner account, so use the current authenticated partner channel and confirm the available process there.
This guide is about restaurants operating in India. The key distinction is between correcting information held in a platform account and deciding how a supply should be classified for GST. A profile correction may help align the platform’s records with the restaurant’s registration, but it is not a substitute for checking the applicable tax rules.
First, identify which GST detail needs changing
“Update GST settings” can mean several different things: adding or correcting a GSTIN, changing a registration-status field, or asking the platform to reflect a different tax classification. These are not interchangeable changes. The platform profile should describe the restaurant’s real registration and circumstances; changing a field in an app does not itself change the restaurant’s legal status or determine the correct tax treatment.
Before signing in, identify the specific mismatch. For example, is the GSTIN in the partner profile different from the restaurant’s current registration record, or is the concern that a customer bill or platform statement appears to show a different tax amount? A wrong identifier and a question about the tax treatment of a supply need different resolutions. If the issue is classification or liability rather than a typo, ask a qualified GST professional to assess it before requesting a change.

It can help to write down the issue in one sentence before contacting the platform: “The GSTIN in this outlet’s partner profile does not match the restaurant’s current registration record,” or “I need to understand which service a charge on this statement represents.” The first is a record-correction request; the second is a question about a transaction or tax treatment. Keeping them separate makes it less likely that a support request for a data correction will be mistaken for a request to change the tax rate.
Understand the separate supplies on an order
A delivery-platform order may involve more than one supply. The Ministry of Finance’s 1 April 2025 Rajya Sabha answer distinguishes the restaurant service from other services provided by a food-delivery app. It states that restaurant services outside specified premises are subject to 5% GST without input tax credit whether supplied directly or through an electronic commerce operator. The same answer says other app services, such as platform services, are taxed at 18%.
That 5% statement is qualified: it concerns restaurant services other than those located at specified premises. Do not assume it establishes the rate for every restaurant, premises category, fee, or line on a customer’s bill. A restaurant-service rate should not automatically be applied to platform fees or other separately supplied services.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteGovernment FAQ material from the Press Information Bureau separately says local delivery services are taxed at 18%, with liability depending on the supplier’s registration and whether the service is supplied through an electronic commerce operator. Local delivery is not the same thing as the restaurant’s supply of food. The available material does not provide a complete bill-component guide for every platform, order arrangement, or account configuration, so do not infer who owes tax on a particular line solely from how it appears in an app.
In practical terms, a restaurant should not treat a single order total as though every component necessarily has the same supplier or tax treatment. The restaurant’s food service, a platform service, and a local-delivery service are distinct categories in the government material. The fact that a charge appears alongside food on a customer-facing screen does not, by itself, establish who supplied that service or who is responsible for tax on it. If a statement does not make the category clear, ask the platform to identify the charge and take a business-specific liability question to a GST professional.

The Ministry’s answer also reported that the GST Council had recommended further examination of the rate applicable to delivery of food in relation to app orders. That is a statement about the Council’s recommendation as reported on 1 April 2025, not a new rate or a platform setting. For a decision being made now, check current government notifications or consult a GST professional about the restaurant’s specific facts.
How to request a profile update safely
The following is a cautious operational workflow, not a verified menu path for either platform. Publicly available material reviewed does not document the current account controls, required documents, or verification timeline for GST edits on Swiggy or Zomato. Do not rely on guessed menu names or instructions from an unauthenticated third party.
- Check the restaurant’s current GST record. Confirm the relevant registration details against the restaurant’s official records before changing a partner profile. If the business’s registration or premises classification is uncertain, resolve that question with a GST professional rather than selecting a status based on what another restaurant uses.
- Sign in through the platform’s official partner channel. Use the authenticated account for the restaurant. Swiggy’s Partner App is an official entry point, but its public page does not expose a readable GST-editing workflow. For either service, use the current support route available from the signed-in partner account or the platform’s current official partner channel.
- Describe the exact discrepancy. State whether you need to correct a registration identifier, update registration status, or ask how a tax field is represented. Avoid asking support to apply a different tax rate unless you have first established that the restaurant’s treatment should change.
- Submit only what the authenticated process requests. Follow the platform’s current instructions and provide information through its official account flow. The public sources do not establish a standard document list, so do not assume that a particular certificate, upload, or format is universally required.
- Save the confirmation. Keep the request reference, support response, and any confirmation that the profile was changed. This gives the restaurant a record of what was submitted and when, and helps distinguish a pending request from a completed update.
- Check the result in later records. Once the platform indicates that the change is complete, review the partner profile and subsequent order statements or settlements for consistency. If the displayed information still conflicts with the restaurant’s records, reopen the issue with the saved confirmation rather than making repeated speculative edits.
This workflow is deliberately account-neutral. The official public Swiggy Partner App page confirms an entry point but requires JavaScript and does not show a readable GST-editing process. The public information reviewed likewise does not verify a particular Zomato button sequence or support destination for this task. Platform interfaces can change, so rely on the instructions presented inside the restaurant’s authenticated partner account rather than a remembered menu name or a third-party tutorial.
There is no verified universal fee, document checklist, or processing-time commitment in the public material described here. Do not pay an unofficial intermediary or send registration information to a contact simply because that person claims to expedite a profile change. If the authenticated platform flow asks for specific information, follow that flow; otherwise ask the platform through its official partner channel what it needs.
What to check before submitting a change
A brief pre-submission check can prevent a simple profile correction from turning into a tax-classification problem. Compare the account information with the business’s current official records and make sure the change requested is limited to the issue you have identified.

- Record the date of the request and retain the platform’s response or reference number.
- Do not send sensitive registration material through a personal message, an unofficial social-media account, or a link whose authenticity you cannot verify.
For a multi-outlet business, treat the outlet selected in the partner account as part of the check: make sure the request concerns the location and account whose record needs correction. Do not assume that details shown for one outlet automatically describe another. If the business has changed its registration or premises circumstances, first verify what the official record now says and whether the change affects the tax treatment; the platform profile alone cannot answer that question.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Changing the rate to match a fee on the customer bill
A platform or delivery charge may relate to a different supply from the restaurant service. The government material distinguishes restaurant services, platform services, and local delivery services; it does not establish that they all take the same rate or that the restaurant controls every line shown to a customer. Ask the platform what a disputed line represents, and seek tax advice if the question is who supplies it or who must report the tax.
Copying another restaurant’s setup
Another partner account may relate to a different registration status, premises classification, or arrangement. A profile that appears to work for another restaurant is not evidence that the same treatment applies to yours. Use the restaurant’s own records and business facts.
Treating an account update as a GST registration change
A platform profile is an operational record. Updating it does not register, cancel, or amend the business’s GST registration with the government, and it does not settle whether the restaurant’s return reporting is correct. Handle any change to the underlying registration through the applicable official process, separately from the platform’s profile process.
Assuming a request has taken effect immediately
A submitted request and a completed profile change are not necessarily the same event. Keep the platform’s confirmation and verify the resulting profile or later statements before treating the issue as resolved. The public material reviewed does not specify a standard processing time.

Using the 5% rate as a blanket rule
The Ministry of Finance’s statement is specifically about restaurant services other than those located at specified premises. It should not be stretched into a rule for every premises category, every service connected with an order, or every line on a settlement. If your premises classification or a particular order arrangement is in question, confirm the applicable treatment rather than choosing the most familiar rate in the partner account.
Confusing historical aggregator compliance context with a restaurant setting
A GST Council agenda note describes food aggregators such as Swiggy and Zomato as registered under Section 52 as tax collectors at source and discusses reconciliation and reporting concerns. This is historical compliance context about aggregators; it is not a button, setting, or instruction for the restaurant’s partner profile. Do not treat it as a substitute for checking the restaurant’s own registration and reporting obligations.

The Ministry of Finance’s answer in the Rajya Sabha, dated 1 April 2025, is the strongest cited authority here for the stated treatment of restaurant service outside specified premises and other app services. It is attributed to Pankaj Chaudhary, Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance, and says the 5% without-input-tax-credit treatment applies whether the restaurant supplies that service directly or through an electronic commerce operator such as Zomato or Swiggy. The Press Information Bureau’s government FAQ supplies separate context on local-delivery services. A GST Council agenda note describes historical compliance context in which food aggregators were registered under Section 52 as tax collectors at source and discusses reconciliation and reporting concerns; that background is not an instruction for changing a restaurant’s current account settings.
These sources explain tax categories and some compliance context, but they do not publish current step-by-step GST profile instructions for restaurant partners. In particular, they do not establish the exact Swiggy or Zomato controls, required uploads, approval period, or a platform-specific support route for this change. The safest course is to use the current authenticated partner channel, keep the account aligned with the actual registration record, and get professional advice where the question is tax treatment rather than a straightforward data correction.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I change my GST details on Swiggy or Zomato?
Sign in through the restaurant’s current authenticated partner account or official partner channel, identify whether the issue is a GSTIN correction, registration-status change, or tax-treatment question, and use the support route shown there. Public information does not verify exact button-by-button steps for either platform, a universal document list, or a processing time. Save the platform’s confirmation and check the profile and later statements after the change.
What GST rate applies to restaurant food ordered through a delivery app?
The Ministry of Finance’s 1 April 2025 Rajya Sabha answer states that restaurant services outside specified premises are subject to 5% GST without input tax credit, whether supplied directly or through an electronic commerce operator such as Swiggy or Zomato. The statement is qualified; it should not be assumed to cover every premises classification or every charge on an order. Check current notifications or seek qualified advice for a business-specific case.
Are platform fees and local delivery charges taxed the same as restaurant food?
Not necessarily. The Ministry’s answer says other app services, such as platform services, are taxed at 18%. Separate Press Information Bureau FAQ material says local delivery services are taxed at 18%, with liability depending on supplier registration and whether the service is supplied through an electronic commerce operator. These are distinct categories, and the sources do not provide a complete bill-component guide for every platform arrangement.

Does changing a platform GST profile change the restaurant’s GST registration?
No. A partner-account edit is an operational record update; it does not register, cancel, or amend the restaurant’s government GST registration, or determine whether its tax returns are correct. Handle any change to the underlying registration through the applicable official process.
What documents do Swiggy or Zomato require, and how long does approval take?
The public material reviewed does not establish a standard document list or verification timeline for GST profile changes. Use the instructions in the authenticated partner-account process and submit only what it requests. Keep the request reference or confirmation so you can follow up if the profile has not been updated.
The Bottom Line
Correct the partner profile to match the restaurant’s real GST record, but do not treat a profile field as a way to choose a rate. The Ministry of Finance’s 1 April 2025 statement covers restaurant services outside specified premises at 5% without input tax credit; platform and local-delivery services are separate categories. Use the platform’s current authenticated partner channel, retain confirmation, and consult a qualified GST professional when the question is classification, liability, or reporting rather than a simple record correction.
