WARDOGS Season 2’s rain preset is designed to change visibility, engagement ranges and sound—not just the scenery. BULKHEAD says thunder can temporarily mask footsteps, and rain interacts with damaged and destroyed structures. The developer has also clarified that rain is a weather state selected for a map, not weather that starts dynamically during a match.
What the rain preset is designed to change
In its Season 02 preview, BULKHEAD describes the update as: “A new weather preset that changes visibility, engagement ranges and sound. Rain interacts with the environment, including damaged and destroyed structures. Thunder is synchronised across the server and can temporarily mask footsteps, opening up new tactical opportunities mid fight.”
Visibility and engagement ranges
The announced changes to visibility and engagement ranges mean players may need to reassess sightlines and firing distances in rainy conditions. That is a tactical implication of the stated design, not a measured result: BULKHEAD has not published visibility distances or figures showing how far engagements shift.

Thunder is intended to be synchronised across the server and may temporarily mask footsteps. During a fight, players may therefore have less reliable access to footsteps as an audio cue. The preview does not specify how often thunder occurs, how loud it is, or how long masking lasts.
Damaged and destroyed structures
BULKHEAD says rain interacts with the environment, including damaged and destroyed structures, but does not describe specific effects. The announcement does not establish changes to puddles, water accumulation, vehicles, weapons or particular structures.
Does rain start during a WARDOGS match?
No, according to BULKHEAD’s clarification: “For clarity – rain is an additional weather state per map and not a dynamic event mid match.” In other words, the announced system adds a rain option associated with a map; it does not make clear skies turn rainy during an ongoing round.
This distinction matters when interpreting the teaser: it previews a different weather condition for gameplay, not a mid-match weather transition. WARDOGS is described as a large-scale tactical FPS with up to 100 players, control zones and destructible environments, so changes to sightlines, firing distances and audio cues could affect how players approach fights. Those implications remain expectations rather than independently verified outcomes.
When Season 2 is expected
BULKHEAD’s Steam announcement gives 15 October 2026 as the Season 02 date. The announcement does not state a launch hour or timezone. The preview and clarification describe intended design; they do not provide post-launch testing or numerical measurements of the rain system.
