Insomniac Games does not have a blanket rule that every game is permanently exclusive to PlayStation. Sony owns the studio and places it within PlayStation Studios, but the official catalog shows different outcomes by title: Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart are listed for PS5 and PC, while Sony described Marvel’s Wolverine as worldwide PS5-exclusive in a September 18, 2026 report.
The reliable way to determine exclusivity is therefore title by title. Check the game’s current official platform listing, the date of any port announcement, and whether the source says “exclusive” or simply lists an available platform. A PlayStation launch does not by itself prove that a game will never reach PC.

What Sony’s ownership of Insomniac actually means
Sony Interactive Entertainment announced on August 20, 2019, that it had agreed to acquire Insomniac Games “in its entirety” and add the developer to SIE Worldwide Studios as its 14th studio. Sony said the acquisition would further its commitment to game development for PlayStation platforms. The announcement also said Insomniac’s day-to-day operations were expected to remain with its current management, working with SIE Worldwide Studios’ San Mateo Studio. Read Sony’s 2019 acquisition announcement.
That establishes a corporate relationship and a platform strategy, not a public catalog of every game’s legal release terms. Ownership can influence financing, publishing, marketing, scheduling and platform priorities, but it does not automatically create a permanent, studio-wide exclusivity contract. Individual games can have different launch plans and later ports.

Sony’s wording also supports describing Insomniac as part of the PlayStation studio organization. A September 18, 2026 Sony corporate article states that “Insomniac Games is part of PlayStation Studios, the global network of game development studios within Sony Interactive Entertainment.” That article quotes Hermen Hulst, CEO, Studio Business, Sony Interactive Entertainment, calling Marvel’s Wolverine a major milestone for PlayStation Studios, Insomniac Games and Marvel Games. What “PlayStation exclusive” can safely mean
“Exclusive” needs a scope and a date. It may describe a game that is available only on PlayStation consoles, a timed console arrangement, or a title that has not yet been announced for another platform. Those are not interchangeable claims.
Launch exclusivity is not the same as permanent exclusivity
A game can launch on a PlayStation console first and later receive a PC version. Once the PC version exists, calling the game “PlayStation-only” is inaccurate, even if it remains unavailable on Xbox or Nintendo hardware. Conversely, a PC port does not prove that there was no initial console-exclusivity period; the reviewed official sources do not publish the legal terms or duration of any such arrangement.

A platform listing is evidence of availability
When an official page lists PS5 and PC, the safe conclusion is that those platforms are supported as stated on that page. It is stronger than inference from a studio’s ownership, but narrower than a claim about every future platform. Insomniac’s live Games page currently lists Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart for PS5 and PC.

An explicit “exclusive” statement has a date
Sony’s September 18, 2026 report described Marvel’s Wolverine as available worldwide exclusively on PS5. That is a dated statement. A later platform announcement could change the game’s status, so retain the date whenever you repeat the description.
Insomniac games: platform status by title
The following comparison separates what the official sources actually establish from assumptions about future releases.
| Game | Official platform evidence | Release timing or evidence date | Accurate description |
|---|---|---|---|
| Marvel’s Spider-Man series | PlayStation says the series is available on PC. It identifies Insomniac as the developer of the PlayStation games and Nixxes Software as the studio that ported the PC versions. PlayStation series page | Current series page; no universal port timetable stated | Available on PlayStation and PC; PC versions were ported by Nixxes. |
| Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 | Insomniac lists PS5 and PC. PlayStation announced the PC edition with Nixxes leading development and optimization alongside Insomniac, PlayStation and Marvel Games. PlayStation.Blog announcement | PC launch announced for January 30, 2025; current Insomniac listing is PS5 and PC | It launched on PS5 and later arrived on PC in January 2025. |
| Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart | Insomniac lists PS5 and PC. PlayStation announced the PC version for July 26, 2023. PlayStation.Blog announcement | PC release announced for July 26, 2023; current Insomniac listing is PS5 and PC | It was a PlayStation release that later became available on PC. |
| Marvel’s Wolverine | Sony reported the game as available worldwide exclusively on PS5. Sony report | Statement dated September 18, 2026 | Sony described it as PS5-exclusive on that date; future announcements could change the status. |
“Available on PC” and “PS5-exclusive” describe different kinds of evidence. The first is a platform listing or port announcement; the second is an explicit, time-stamped exclusivity statement. Neither source type supplies a universal rule for Insomniac’s entire catalog.

PlayStation’s official Marvel’s Spider-Man series page directly addresses two questions readers often ask: which studio makes the games and whether the series is on PC. It says Insomniac develops the PlayStation games and Nixxes Software ports the PC versions. The same page presents the series as available on PC. That combination shows why the original console association should not be treated as a permanent platform restriction.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
On October 18, 2024, PlayStation announced a PC launch date of January 30, 2025. The announcement says Nixxes led the PC development and optimization in collaboration with Insomniac, PlayStation and Marvel Games. Insomniac’s current games listing includes both PS5 and PC. The precise, supportable description is therefore: a PS5 game with a later PC release, not a permanently PlayStation-only game.
Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered and the wider series
The series page includes PC availability and explains the division of labor between Insomniac and Nixxes. It does not establish one fixed number of months between every console release and every PC release. Do not turn the existence of one port into a promise that every future installment will follow the same schedule.
How Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart fits
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart demonstrates the same title-specific approach. PlayStation announced its PC version for July 26, 2023, and Insomniac’s current listing shows PS5 and PC. It is accurate to call it a PlayStation release that later became available on PC. It is not accurate to use its earlier console status as proof that all Insomniac games are permanently exclusive, or to infer a standard PC-delay formula.

Sony’s September 18, 2026 corporate report says Marvel’s Wolverine is available worldwide exclusively on PS5. That is the clearest current example of an explicit Insomniac exclusivity statement. Because the wording is tied to a dated report, write “Sony described Wolverine as PS5-exclusive in its September 2026 report,” rather than presenting the status as an irrevocable lifetime restriction.

No reviewed official source announces a PC version, a PC release date, or a general rule that Wolverine must remain on PS5. The absence of an announcement is not proof that a future port is impossible; it only means no such platform is established by the cited statement.

- Identify the exact title and edition. A series, remaster, sequel and spin-off can have different platforms. Do not substitute a franchise-wide assumption for the specific game.
- Check the developer’s current listing. Review Insomniac’s Games page and record every platform shown. Treat this as a live page that may change.
- Check the publisher or platform holder’s announcement. Look for an explicit release date, such as the January 30, 2025 PC date for Spider-Man 2 or July 26, 2023 for Rift Apart.
- Classify the wording. “Exclusive” is stronger and narrower than “available on PS5.” “Coming to PC” establishes an announced port, while a current store listing establishes availability at the time you check it.
- Attach the evidence date. Platform catalogs and corporate statements can change. Record when the page or announcement made the claim, especially for a game described as exclusive.
- Avoid predicting a standard delay. The official sources reviewed here do not publish a universal PC-port timetable or exclusivity duration for Insomniac games.
Common mistakes when discussing exclusivity
- “Sony owns Insomniac, so every game is PlayStation-only.” Ownership explains the studio’s place in PlayStation Studios, but the Spider-Man and Ratchet & Clank listings show PC availability.
- “A PC port means the game was never exclusive.” A later port can follow an initial console-only period. The sources do not disclose the legal terms, so do not erase a possible launch window.
- “The original launch platform is the current platform list.” Current availability can expand after launch. Use the latest official listing and include the port date when known.
- “One game’s schedule predicts the next one.” Neither the official series page nor the announcements establish a fixed delay that applies across the catalog.
- “Exclusive” means exclusive to all non-PlayStation hardware and PC.” State the scope precisely. A PS5-exclusive statement is not the same as a claim about every possible device, service or future edition unless the source says so.
What the 2019 acquisition figures do—and do not—tell you
Sony’s 2019 acquisition announcement reported that Marvel’s Spider-Man had sold through more than 13.2 million copies worldwide as of July 28, 2019. That is a historical sales figure, not a current total and not a measure of exclusivity. The same announcement cited 20 workplace-culture awards since 2005. It is a historical figure stated by Sony, not an updated award count.
Those numbers help explain why Sony considered Insomniac strategically valuable, but they do not reveal the platform terms for any individual game. Platform status still has to be checked title by title.
What is not publicly established by these sources
- A permanent studio-wide rule requiring every Insomniac game to remain on PlayStation only.
- A universal number of months between a PlayStation launch and a PC release.
- The legal duration or contract terms of any console-exclusivity arrangement.
- A confirmed PC version or date for Marvel’s Wolverine.
- A guarantee that a live platform listing will never change.
Keeping these limits visible prevents a platform announcement from being stretched into a claim the source does not support.
Bottom line
Insomniac’s ownership by Sony makes it a PlayStation Studios developer and strongly aligns the studio with PlayStation platform development. It does not create a universal, permanent exclusivity rule. Official evidence shows Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and the Spider-Man series on PlayStation and PC, while Sony described Marvel’s Wolverine as worldwide PS5-exclusive on September 18, 2026. For any other title, check the current official listing, the dated platform announcement and the exact scope of the word “exclusive.”
