Persona 5: The Phantom X calls its gacha banners Contracts. The two headline pity systems are a current system that guarantees a 5★ on draw 80 after 79 misses, and a newer system that guarantees a Most Wanted 5★ by draw 110. Those systems are counted separately. On a Chance contract, the first 5★ can be off-banner; after that loss, your next 5★ is guaranteed to be Most Wanted. On a Targeted contract, every 5★ is from the Most Wanted lineup.

Because rules, rates and rollout can differ by server, version and contract, open the banner in your client and tap Drop Rates before spending. That panel is the authoritative source for the contract you are actually viewing.

What are Contracts in Persona 5: The Phantom X?

Contracts are P5X’s summon banners. Each contract has its own featured lineup, draw rules, pity counter and displayed probabilities. The game does not publish one permanent rate table that applies to every contract and region. Instead, open Contracts, select the banner, then tap Drop Rates to see the live rates and conditions for that specific banner.

A contract can be for characters or weapons. Character banners may use labels such as Most Wanted, while weapon banners are presented as Arms Deals. Never assume that a counter, threshold or guarantee on one contract also applies to another.

How does pity work in P5X?

The current main Contracts system

The Persona5: The Phantom X Operations Team described the current system on 15 August 2025 as follows: “If you didn’t obtain a 5★ from the previous 79 draws, the next draw guarantees a 5★.” In practical terms, if your last 5★ was 79 draws ago—or you have made 79 draws on a fresh counter without seeing one—the 80th draw is guaranteed to produce a 5★.

That guarantee is for rarity, not automatically for the featured character. The same operations letter says: “If a non-Most Wanted 5★ Phantom Thief was obtained, the next 5★ you obtain is guaranteed to be the Most Wanted 5★.” Therefore, on a current-system character contract:

  1. You can receive a 5★ at any point before draw 80.
  2. If you reach 79 consecutive draws without a 5★, draw 80 guarantees one.
  3. If that 5★ is not the Most Wanted character, the next 5★ is guaranteed to be Most Wanted.
  4. Receiving any 5★ resets the relevant 5★ counter, so you begin counting again toward the next one.

If the first 5★ is off-banner and both 5★ results arrive at their respective pity limits, the featured character could require as many as 160 draws under this 80-draw framework. That is a worst-case planning figure, not a statement that every player needs 160 draws.

The newer Contracts system

The same 15 August 2025 letter describes a separate system: “If you didn’t obtain a 5★ from the previous 109 draws, the next draw guarantees a 5★.” It then states: “The 5★ you obtain is guaranteed to be the Most Wanted 5★.” This means the contract guarantees the featured character within 110 draws when its new-system rules apply.

The current and new systems have separate counters and different rates. A counter built on a current-system contract should not be treated as progress toward a new-system contract, or vice versa. Read the contract’s own text and counter rather than relying on the number you remember from another banner.

How many pulls guarantee the character?

Contract rule 5★ timing Featured-character result Maximum planning figure
Current main system Draw 80 after 79 draws without a 5★ An off-banner 5★ can occur; the next 5★ is then guaranteed Most Wanted Up to 160 draws if the first 5★ is off-banner and both occur at pity
New system Draw 110 after 109 draws without a 5★ The 5★ is guaranteed to be Most Wanted 110 draws
Chance Most Wanted Phantom Idol contract Use the threshold printed on the live contract; SEGA’s support description discusses an 80-draw window A 5★ may be outside the Most Wanted lineup; the next 5★ is guaranteed Most Wanted Depends on the contract’s displayed threshold and counter
Targeted Most Wanted Phantom Idol contract Use the threshold printed on that contract Every 5★ Phantom Thief is from the Most Wanted lineup Depends on the contract’s displayed threshold and counter

The 110-draw figure is the clearest direct character guarantee in the new system. For any other banner, the number shown in the contract’s rules and counter takes priority over a general guide.

What is the difference between Chance and Targeted?

SEGA’s support explanation applies these labels to Most Wanted Phantom Idol Contracts. They describe how a 5★ is selected, not merely how often you can draw.

Chance

Chance allows a 5★ obtained within the contract’s stated draw window to be outside the Most Wanted lineup. If that happens, the next 5★ is guaranteed to be Most Wanted. This is the mechanic players often call a “50/50,” but the official support wording does not promise a universal 50/50 percentage. Do not use that term as a precise probability unless the live Drop Rates panel explicitly does so.

Targeted

Targeted guarantees that every 5★ Phantom Thief comes from the Most Wanted lineup. You can still receive the 5★ before the pity limit, but there is no off-banner 5★ result under the Targeted rule described by support.

Feature Chance Targeted
Can the first 5★ be off-banner? Yes. If it is non-Most-Wanted, the next 5★ is guaranteed Most Wanted. No. Every 5★ is from the Most Wanted lineup.
Featured certainty Guaranteed on the second 5★ after an off-banner result Guaranteed for every 5★
Draw threshold Use the live contract; SEGA’s description references an 80-draw window Use the live contract’s displayed threshold; no single universal number should be assumed
Counter sharing Uses a separate Chance character counter Uses a separate Targeted character counter

Arms Deals have only one drawing system rather than Chance and Targeted alternatives. Their weapon rules and counter are separate from character Contracts.

Does pity carry over between banners?

Carryover depends on the contract family. The documented rules establish these boundaries:

  • A 5★ Phantom Thief or weapon resets the relevant guaranteed-5★ counter.
  • Most Wanted Phantom Idol Contracts and Arms Deals use separate counters.
  • Different Most Wanted character contract types share their character counter.
  • Chance and Targeted contracts use separate counters.
  • The current main system and the newer 110-draw system are separately counted.

For example, progress on a character Chance contract should not be assumed to apply to an Arms Deal. Likewise, a Chance counter should not be merged with a Targeted counter simply because both banners feature characters. Before pulling, inspect the counter displayed on the exact contract you plan to use.

A practical carryover example

Suppose a Chance character contract shows that you are several draws into its 5★ counter. Moving to an Arms Deal does not turn that progress into weapon pity; the weapon banner has its own counter family. Returning later to another compatible character contract may use the shared character counter, but switching from Chance to Targeted is a separate case because those systems are explicitly counted independently.

How to check a banner before you spend

  1. Open the game’s Contracts screen.
  2. Select the exact character or weapon banner you intend to pull.
  3. Tap Drop Rates. Record the 5★ rate, featured lineup, off-banner conditions and any regional wording.
  4. Read the banner description for its system: current main, new, Chance, Targeted or an Arms Deal.
  5. Check the on-screen pity counter. Treat that number as local to the selected contract family unless the rules explicitly say otherwise.
  6. Write down your last 5★ result and whether it was Most Wanted. On a Chance contract, an off-banner 5★ changes the next-5★ result to guaranteed Most Wanted.
  7. Calculate the remaining draws using the displayed threshold, not a number copied from another banner.

This check also prevents a common mistake: comparing a current-system banner with a new-system banner as if they had identical rates or shared progress.

What happens if I lose the 50/50?

“Lose the 50/50” is community shorthand for receiving a non-Most-Wanted 5★ on a Chance contract. The official rule is more precise: after a non-Most-Wanted 5★ Phantom Thief, the next 5★ you obtain is guaranteed to be the Most Wanted character.

The result does not mean the current draw is refunded, nor does it make every other contract guaranteed. It changes the featured status of your next 5★ within the applicable character system. A weapon banner, a different counter family or a separate Targeted contract should not be presumed to inherit that guarantee.

Why the rules can differ by region and version

The operations team has acknowledged differences among the Chinese/Asia, Japanese and Western versions. It also said the newer guaranteed-Most-Wanted system was being adjusted for Japanese and Western release. A December 2025 interview reported that an improved banner guaranteeing the character after 110 pulls had been added following player feedback.

Those statements describe a rollout that can change with server, patch and contract availability. A banner visible in one region may have a different system, threshold or rate from a similarly named banner elsewhere. Always verify the live contract text and Drop Rates panel in your own client on the day you pull.

Common mistakes when planning pulls

Assuming every banner uses one pity counter

Character and weapon counters are separate, and Chance and Targeted counters are separate. Track each family independently.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Treating 80 as an automatic featured-character guarantee

Under the current main system, draw 80 guarantees a 5★, not necessarily the Most Wanted character. An off-banner result can require the next 5★ for the featured guarantee.

Calling Chance a guaranteed 50/50

The support description confirms that an off-banner 5★ can occur and that the next 5★ is then Most Wanted. It does not establish one universal percentage for every contract. Use the in-game rates instead.

Applying the 110 rule everywhere

The 110-draw guarantee belongs to the newer system described by the operations team. Current-system contracts and other banner types can follow different rules.

Ignoring the banner’s current version

Rules can be revised by region and patch. The contract currently displayed in your game is more reliable than an older screenshot, guide or memory.

Pull-planning checklist

  • Confirm the banner is for the character or weapon you want.
  • Identify whether it is current-system, new-system, Chance, Targeted or an Arms Deal.
  • Read Drop Rates and the full guarantee text.
  • Note the counter shown before your first draw.
  • For a Chance banner, budget for a possible off-banner 5★ and the following guaranteed Most Wanted 5★.
  • For a new-system banner, budget up to 110 draws for the guaranteed Most Wanted 5★, subject to the live contract’s wording.
  • Do not transfer pity assumptions between regions, versions or contract families.

Bottom line for P5X players

P5X’s gacha is contract-based rather than governed by one universal banner rule. The current main system guarantees a 5★ on draw 80 after 79 misses, with the next 5★ featured if the first was off-banner. The newer system guarantees the Most Wanted 5★ by draw 110. Chance and Targeted change whether an off-banner 5★ is possible, while character and weapon counters remain separate. Check the contract’s own Drop Rates panel and counter every time, especially after a regional or version update.
