The described pcview update separates three search paths: collaborator numbers of 3–6 digits, invoice-number queries matching a 5–12-character alphanumeric heuristic, and general device search. It also adds nullable invoice-number and purchase-order fields to device records and displays each on the detail sheet when populated. These are implementation details reported by Roberto Luna in an October 6, 2026, DEV Community article—not independently verified behavior of the current repository or a deployed version.
What the search change is meant to fix
The reported issue was that a seven-digit query such as 1234567 could be treated as a collaborator number, even though the application’s collaborator numbers were described as having a maximum of six digits. The article says the change narrows the collaborator-number pattern and lets longer numeric values fall through to generic device search instead.
The same update addresses a separate gap: device records previously had no reported way to store and search invoice or purchase-order references. The change adds those fields and describes a dedicated invoice-number search path.
How the query patterns differ
| Search path | Reported rule | Intended behavior |
|---|---|---|
| Collaborator number | /^d{3,6}$/ |
Recognizes numeric strings from 3 through 6 digits as collaborator-number queries. |
| Invoice number | 5–12 alphanumeric characters, case-insensitively | Recognizes a possible invoice-number query; the article says the database lookup uses a case-insensitive substring match. |
| General device search | Fallback when a query does not enter the more specific paths | Allows a longer numeric query such as the reported seven-digit example to be handled as a general device search rather than a collaborator number. |
The invoice rule is a project-specific heuristic, not a standard invoice-number format. The article does not establish the full dispatcher order, whether input is trimmed, or how overlapping patterns are resolved. Do not infer those details from the two patterns alone.

Collaborator-number boundary
The reported regex accepts only a full string of 3–6 digits. A two-digit value and a seven-digit value do not match that pattern; the article specifically says longer values fall back to general device search. It does not describe what happens to every other nonmatching input.
Invoice-number matching
The article describes an isInvoiceNumber helper that accepts 5–12 alphanumeric characters without regard to letter case. It then describes a Prisma query using contains with insensitive matching on invoiceNumber. A substring query can match a portion of a stored value, but the article does not specify the database’s collation, indexes, performance, or every edge case of the helper.
What was added to the device record
The reported schema change adds two nullable fields to the Prisma PcDevice model:

invoiceNumberstores the invoice reference.purchaseOrderstores the purchase-order reference. The interface labels these fields “Factura” and “ODC (Orden de Compra),” respectively.
Because the fields are nullable, the described model permits a device record to have neither value. The article also says corresponding nullable fields were added to the PcDeviceRow interface in the device-store hook so that the values can reach the UI.
Where invoice and purchase-order values appear
According to the article, the device detail sheet renders invoice number and purchase order as separate rows, and each row appears only when its own field has a value. This describes conditional display; it does not establish how users enter or edit the values, whether existing records were backfilled, or what authorization rules protect the metadata.
Migration and test claims
The article reports generating a Prisma migration named add-invoice-fields and says 124 tests passed, including search and device-detail tests. Those are the author’s reported results; the migration contents and test run have not been independently verified, and the article does not pin a repository commit. Treat them as claims about the described implementation, not proof that the same code is present or deployed in every version of pcview.

How this differs from invoice-document automation
Searching an inventory database by an invoice reference is not the same as extracting a reference from an uploaded invoice and assigning that document to a person or accounting field.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
For example, Perk documents a separate invoice workflow that scans PDF text for a configured regex and compares the extracted value with profile data. Its example pattern, [A-Z]d{5}, is specific to that product; Perk also documents invoice coding against user, cost-object, or category attributes. Its cost-object guidance describes exact matching, applying one extracted reference to all invoice line items, and PDF support rather than XML e-invoices. None of those behaviors is established for pcview.
Xero’s Accounting API is another separate example: its invoice SearchTerm searches invoice number and reference text case-insensitively. That API behavior does not show that pcview uses Xero or follows its search implementation.
What remains unestablished
The available account of the change does not establish the current repository state, generated migration SQL, database indexing or collation, query performance, deployed behavior, historical data handling, or access controls for purchase metadata. The article mentions faceted search, CSV bulk import, and audit logging as possible future ideas; it does not report them as completed features.
