Origin Workbench is a multitasking feature on the vivo X Fold5 that keeps apps accessible while you work. vivo says it can run up to five apps at once, but that does not mean every app stays live in its own preview: app support is limited, and some previews can become screenshots under certain conditions.
What Origin Workbench does on the vivo X Fold5
vivo lists Origin Workbench as part of the X Fold5’s AI Smart Office features. It is designed to make it easier to refer to other apps while working—for example, keeping meeting information available while taking notes, or consulting a browser while writing in a document.
TechRadar reviewer Prakhar Khanna described using Chrome as reference material while continuing to write in a document, switching back to the pinned app with a quick tap. How many apps can Origin Workbench run at once?
vivo India said in its 2025 launch announcement that Origin Workbench can run up to five apps at once. This is the manufacturer’s stated capability, not an independently measured benchmark. The figure also needs context: running apps and apps shown as live, interactive previews are not necessarily the same thing. vivo India’s launch announcement

Which apps stay live in Workbench?
The X Fold5 product page says preview support is limited and that not all apps are supported. vivo specifically notes limits for audio, video, and game apps: in some combinations, a maximum of two such apps can be previewed in real time as Origin Windows. So the five-app claim should not be read as a promise of five simultaneous live previews for any apps you choose.
vivo also warns that high temperature, low memory, or low battery can cause all Origin Window previews to be replaced by screenshots. A screenshot can preserve a view of an app, but it is not the same as a live, interactive window. vivo X Fold5 product page

When Workbench may help—and what the evidence does not establish
- Reference while writing: Keep source material accessible while drafting in another app, as in the workflow described by the TechRadar reviewer.
- Notes alongside a meeting: vivo presents meeting summaries and note-taking as intended use cases.
- More than one supporting app: The manufacturer’s up-to-five figure suggests Workbench is aimed at broader multitasking, but the live-preview limits matter for app combinations that need to remain interactive.
The available published evidence supports calling Workbench a potentially useful multitasking feature. It does not establish that it is the best foldable multitasking system, nor does it show how widely known the feature is. There is no supplied controlled, apples-to-apples comparison across foldable phones.
