Khaerul Anwar says he built EidosStack AI Gateway to answer a practical question before an API call goes out: what will this model request cost? His hosted gateway puts per-model token prices in a public table and offers one API endpoint and key for models from multiple providers. The features and figures below are Anwar’s account in his Aug. 29, 2026 DEV Community article, not an independent audit of the service.

The problem: model prices are easy to lose track of

Anwar describes the routine many developers face when choosing an AI model: comparing provider pages, spreadsheets, and browser tabs, then wondering whether the figures are still current. That uncertainty matters when a small pricing difference is multiplied across repeated requests, large prompts, or an application with unpredictable traffic.

His response was to build a hosted software API gateway, not a hardware device. The idea is to make price information visible alongside model choice rather than leaving developers to reconstruct costs from separate provider pages.

What EidosStack AI Gateway is reported to offer

Anwar describes EidosStack as an OpenAI-compatible gateway with one endpoint and one API key for more than 48 models from DeepSeek, Anthropic (Claude), OpenAI (GPT), Google (Gemini), Alibaba (Qwen), Moonshot (Kimi), and Zhipu (GLM). Those are the article’s stated catalog and compatibility claims; the current model list and implementation were not independently verified.

A public table for token prices

The product’s public pricing table lists input, output, and cache-token costs by model. Anwar says it refreshes every 30 seconds. The intended benefit is a visible estimate of a model’s listed token rates before a request is sent, rather than discovering costs only when reviewing a later invoice.

That is a useful visibility feature, but it should not be read as a guaranteed final charge for every request. The article characterizes the table experience as seeing what a request will cost in advance; it does not establish that the displayed estimate accounts for every factor in a provider’s final billing.

One interface across providers

A unified endpoint can reduce the friction of switching between supported models, but “OpenAI-compatible” does not by itself establish that every API feature behaves identically across providers. Anwar specifically reports implementation difficulty with tool calling and streaming, so developers whose applications depend on those features should verify them with their actual request patterns.

How the reported billing controls work

According to Anwar, the gateway uses pay-as-you-go billing without a subscription. Users create an API key, can set a spending limit for that key, and top up when needed. Billing is in Indonesian rupiah (IDR), with a USD reference displayed.

Per-key limits address a distinct cost risk: a runaway loop or misbehaving integration can continue sending requests. Anwar’s product-design observation is that small teams may value this kind of straightforward guardrail more than sophisticated request routing. That is his builder’s perspective, not a formal study of user preferences.

What to make of the “up to 50%” price claim

Anwar says gateway prices can be up to 50% below official provider rates. The article does not include a model-by-model comparison, explain a comparison method, or provide independent validation. Treat the figure as the builder’s claim—not a typical saving, a guarantee, or a verified current discount. Gateway pricing and upstream provider rates can change, so check the live prices and billing terms before relying on a cost estimate.

The difficult part is keeping the numbers and compatibility current

Upstream prices change

Anwar says maintaining an accurate pricing table proved harder than expected because providers revise their prices and those changes need continual re-verification. A table’s refresh cadence describes how often it updates; it does not, on its own, prove that every upstream rate has been checked immediately or that a listed value is error-free.

Compatibility has edge cases

He also says implementing OpenAI compatibility well was challenging, particularly for tool calling and streaming. For a team evaluating any multi-provider gateway, the practical test is not just whether a basic text request succeeds, but whether the features the application depends on work as expected with the chosen models.

Who might find this approach useful

  • Developers comparing models: A single table of input, output, and cache rates may make first-pass cost comparisons easier than consulting several provider pages.
  • Small teams managing spend: Per-key limits may help contain accidental or runaway usage, assuming the limit behavior matches the team’s needs.
  • Applications using advanced API features: Teams relying on tool calling or streaming should validate compatibility before moving production traffic.
  • Users outside the stated billing context: Because Anwar describes IDR billing with a USD reference, confirm supported payment and account terms for your location rather than assuming they are universal.

What to verify before routing real requests

  1. Check the current model catalog and confirm that the exact models your application needs are supported.
  2. Compare the live input, output, and cache-token prices with the relevant provider rates; do not treat the article’s “up to 50%” figure as a dependable estimate of savings.
  3. Test tool calling, streaming, and any other API behavior your application requires, rather than relying on the compatibility label alone.
  4. Review the current billing currency, top-up terms, and per-key spending-limit behavior for your account.
  5. Decide whether sending requests through a gateway fits your application’s operational and data-handling requirements. The article does not establish details about those policies.

A builder’s account, not an independent product audit

Anwar’s account is most useful as a description of the problem he set out to solve and the trade-offs he encountered: pricing should be visible before requests are made, spending controls can matter as much as routing sophistication, and accurate price data and API compatibility require ongoing work. It does not independently verify the gateway’s current catalog, prices, savings, or performance.
