Nivalis Nights is a cyberpunk life-and-business simulation, while Cyberpunk 2077 is an action-adventure RPG about a mercenary. They share futuristic urban atmosphere and open-ended exploration, but they ask you to spend your time in very different ways. Cloudpunk is the closest comparison by setting because it also takes place in Nivalis, yet its focus is courier storytelling rather than running a life or hospitality business.
What kind of game is each one?
Nivalis Nights: a life sim built around a business
ION LANDS presents Nivalis Nights as “A CYBERPUNK LIFE SIM” with the invitation to “Build a life after dark.” The player develops hospitality businesses, including restaurants and nightclubs, while also managing a personal routine in the vertical city of Nivalis. Steam lists activities such as growing ingredients, decorating apartments, fishing, playing minigames, and forming friendships or rivalries with residents.
That combination makes the game less about being the most powerful person in the city and more about establishing a sustainable place in it. Your progress is expressed through businesses, living spaces, relationships, and the activities you choose to fit into each day. The official game site says Nivalis Nights includes more than 100 voiced characters, supporting a social world in which recurring residents matter alongside the businesses you operate.

Cyberpunk 2077: an action RPG about a mercenary
The official description of Cyberpunk 2077 calls it an open-world action-adventure RPG set in Night City. You play a cyberpunk mercenary who takes jobs, builds a reputation, unlocks upgrades, and makes choices that affect the story and relationships. Its central fantasy is therefore professional and high-stakes: you are trying to survive and advance through dangerous work, not arranging a domestic routine or running a venue.

Night City is open for exploration, but the structure is still mission-led. Jobs provide the main reasons to move through the city, while upgrades and reputation give the character a conventional role-playing progression. Story choices can alter both personal relationships and the wider narrative, so the game is designed around consequential decisions as much as movement through its world.
Cloudpunk: a courier story in the same city as Nivalis Nights
Nintendo describes Cloudpunk as a story-based exploration game. You spend your first night working for the semi-legal Cloudpunk delivery company in Nivalis, delivering packages and discovering the city through that job. It shares Nivalis with Nivalis Nights and is associated with the same developer, ION LANDS, but its playable routine is narrower: courier work and narrative exploration are the organizing principles.
Cloudpunk is consequently the strongest comparison when the setting is what attracts you. It is not a substitute for Nivalis Nights’ hospitality management, housing customization, or relationship simulation, and it is not structured like Cyberpunk 2077’s mercenary RPG.

How Nivalis Nights’ daily loop differs from Cyberpunk 2077
Running venues instead of taking contracts
In Nivalis Nights, the practical question is what to do with your time in the city. Managing a restaurant or nightclub gives your day an operational purpose. Growing ingredients connects preparation to hospitality, while decorating housing and maintaining relationships gives you reasons to return between business tasks. Boats, fishing, and minigames add optional activities that are not simply steps toward a combat or mission objective.
Cyberpunk 2077 uses a different rhythm. Jobs are the primary units of play: you accept work, improve your mercenary, and make decisions that shape subsequent story and relationships. Exploration supports that job structure rather than replacing it. If you prefer a clear chain of assignments and a character whose abilities develop for increasingly demanding work, Cyberpunk 2077 is the more direct match.
Routine versus escalation
Nivalis Nights is appealing when repetition has value. A familiar apartment, a venue you are improving, and residents whose relationships change can make ordinary evenings meaningful. The game’s appeal comes from accumulating a life in one place rather than constantly moving toward a final objective.

Cyberpunk 2077 is built around escalation. Reputation and upgrades point toward more capable mercenary play, while story choices create forward momentum. The distinction is not simply that one game is calm and the other is intense; it is that Nivalis Nights treats routine as progression, whereas Cyberpunk 2077 treats jobs and consequences as progression.

Nivalis Nights makes the city personal
Friendships and rivalries are part of the Nivalis Nights feature set, alongside apartment decoration and business development. These systems let you express a preferred lifestyle: you can invest attention in a venue, shape a home, cultivate particular connections, or divide time among several pursuits. The city becomes a place you inhabit, not only a map between missions.
Cyberpunk 2077 makes choices consequential
Cyberpunk 2077 also gives relationships a central role, but the official framing connects them to story choices and the world’s response. Its question is less “How should I arrange my evening?” and more “What does my mercenary decide, and what follows from that decision?” Players who want narrative branching tied to a professional protagonist should look here first.

Cloudpunk keeps expression inside the courier role
Cloudpunk’s expression comes from how you experience Nivalis and the people you encounter while delivering packages. It offers a role with a strong narrative identity rather than the broad lifestyle toolkit of Nivalis Nights. Choose it when the attraction is discovering the city through a job, not designing a home or balancing several businesses.

The reviewer reported seeing more than 20 active quest markers during a playthrough and said the volume could feel overwhelming. That is one reviewer’s experience, not a measured average or a guaranteed reaction for every player. It does, however, warn prospective players not to assume that the hospitality systems make the entire game slow, quiet, or pressure-free.

Cyberpunk 2077 presents the danger more directly through its mercenary premise and high-stakes survival framing. Cloudpunk occupies another tonal position: its official listing foregrounds a rain-drenched metropolis and the atmosphere of a first night on the job. None of these games should be selected on the word “cozy” alone; consider whether you want danger to be the background tension, the central professional problem, or the context for a courier story.
Which game should you choose?
Choose Nivalis Nights if you want a life to manage
- You want restaurants or nightclubs to be core progression rather than scenery.
- You enjoy growing ingredients, decorating an apartment, fishing, boating, and minigames alongside business tasks.
- You prefer friendships and rivalries that develop as part of a daily routine.
- You want to spend time in one city and shape how your character lives there.
- You are comfortable with a life-sim structure that still includes danger, curfew, corporate security, and a killer.
Choose Cyberpunk 2077 if you want a mercenary RPG
- You want an open-world action-adventure RPG organized around jobs.
- You prefer building reputation and unlocking upgrades for a professional protagonist.
- You want choices that directly shape the story, relationships, and world.
- You are looking for a high-stakes survival narrative rather than business and domestic management.
Choose Cloudpunk if Nivalis is the main attraction
- You want a story-based exploration game set in Nivalis.
- You like the idea of discovering a city while working deliveries for a semi-legal company.
- You prefer a focused courier narrative to a broad life simulation or action RPG.
Release status and the former Nivalis name
Nivalis Nights is a released game, not an upcoming title, as of October 2026. Steam lists September 29, 2026 as its release date, with ION LANDS as developer and 505 Games as publisher. Older articles, trailers, or wishlists may call the project Nivalis; ION LANDS says Nivalis Nights was previously announced under that name.
That naming history matters when you search for coverage or discuss the game with someone who encountered its earlier announcement. It does not change the central comparison: the released title is positioned as a cyberpunk life sim, while Cyberpunk 2077 remains the action-RPG alternative and Cloudpunk the courier-focused Nivalis connection.
What this comparison can and cannot establish
The fit recommendations above come from each game’s official genre and feature descriptions, not from a matched playtime test or a universal player ranking. No stable comparative statistic establishes that one is objectively better, longer, or more popular. Dynamic store information such as review totals, percentages, prices, and availability can change and should be checked on the live listing before purchase.
The practical conclusion is preference-led. Nivalis Nights is for inhabiting a cyberpunk city through venues, homes, routines, and relationships. Cyberpunk 2077 is for advancing a mercenary through jobs, upgrades, reputation, and consequential choices. Cloudpunk is for seeing Nivalis through the window of a delivery vehicle and following a focused story. Their shared genre label describes the atmosphere; the activity you want to repeat is what should decide your choice.
