Netflix’s Eyeline Studios is presenting generative AI as an artist-directed production capability, not a replacement for visual-effects crews. The studio’s VIEW Conference 2026 session, “Artists in the Loop: Generative AI in Production at Eyeline,” identifies three work areas: early ideation, on-set visualization and advanced post-production. Netflix has separately named the Argentine science-fiction series The Eternaut as a notable production involving Eyeline’s generative-AI work.
Those public announcements establish the scope and one production association, but they do not reveal the models, software, shots, review process or measured time and cost savings discussed by Mohsen Mousavi, Eyeline’s vice president of virtual pioneering.
What Mousavi’s VIEW Conference session is about
The VIEW Conference 2026 program lists Mousavi’s presentation for Tuesday, October 13, 2026, from 11:30 to 12:30 CET at BINARIO3 as an in-person event. Its title is “Artists in the Loop: Generative AI in Production at Eyeline.” The listing confirms the subject and speaker, but it is not a transcript or technical specification.

Eyeline’s event promotion says the session will show practical examples spanning early ideation and on-set visualization, then advanced post-production workflows. The same promotion says creative intent, authorship and craft remain central. That language describes Eyeline’s framing for the event; without a recording or transcript, it should not be treated as a verbatim statement made during the presentation.

Where generative AI fits in Eyeline’s workflow
Early ideation
At the earliest stage, generative visuals can help filmmakers turn a rough concept into images that support discussion. Eyeline describes its Generative Visuals offering as a launchpad for rapidly visualizing, iterating on and collaborating around cinematic ideas before filming. In practical terms, this kind of work can give directors, designers and production teams a shared visual reference while ideas are still changing.
The available announcements do not identify a particular model, prompt method, image format or approval system. They also do not establish that any generated concept became final footage.

On-set visualization
Eyeline’s promotion specifically includes on-set visualization. This points to using generated or digitally assembled imagery to help a crew evaluate a scene while production is underway—for example, to explore how an environment, creature or composition might read before a full visual-effects finish exists.

Those facilities provide the physical and capture infrastructure for virtual production, but their existence does not prove that a particular AI system was used in them or quantify any benefit.

Advanced post-production
The third named area is advanced post-production. This is the stage after or around principal photography in which visual-effects artists refine imagery, integrate elements and respond to editorial changes. The public description does not say whether Eyeline’s examples involve generation, replacement, enhancement, compositing or another technique, nor does it specify how artists inspect, edit or approve outputs.
What Netflix has said about The Eternaut
In an October 15, 2025 announcement, Netflix said Eyeline had led the application of generative AI to production, “most notably in Netflix’s Argentine sci-fi series The Eternaut.” This establishes a connection between Eyeline’s generative-AI work and the series. It does not identify the sequence, tools, model, department, delivery stage or amount of finished material involved.

Netflix’s announcement describes Eyeline as combining nearly four decades of visual-effects artistry with virtual production, AI-enabled tools and advanced research. That is company-level positioning, not a published performance study. No source associated with the VIEW session provides a percentage improvement in speed, cost, shot volume or image quality.

How to interpret the announcement without overclaiming
- It is a production-practice disclosure, not a product launch. The material explains where Eyeline says generative AI enters filmmaking, rather than offering a named tool for consumers or independent creators.
- Artists remain the stated decision-makers. “Artists in the loop” and the emphasis on authorship indicate human review and creative control as the intended operating principle, but the public material does not describe the exact approval checkpoints.
- Facility size is not an AI performance metric. Netflix announced Eyeline’s Hyderabad facility on March 12, 2026, as 32,000 square feet and the fifth global Eyeline location. Those figures describe studio footprint, not adoption rate, rendering speed or output quality.
- The talk’s details may change what is known. A recording or transcript could clarify tools, examples and safeguards. Until one is public, claims beyond the named workflow areas and The Eternaut association would be speculation.
Why the distinction matters for VFX professionals
Generative AI affects different production decisions at different times. In ideation, the value is rapid visual exploration. On set, the value may be immediate visualization that supports blocking or design choices. In post-production, the relevant questions become control, continuity, editability, rights and integration with established VFX pipelines. Treating all three as one “AI workflow” hides those different requirements.

Eyeline’s public framing therefore supports a cautious conclusion: Netflix is exploring generative AI inside an established, artist-led VFX and virtual-production operation. The announcements do not support a stronger conclusion about replacing artists, reducing budgets or accelerating every shot.
Eyeline’s wider studio context
Eyeline’s Generative Visuals description positions the technology before filming as a collaborative visualization service. Its broader studio materials also identify the Light Dome and performance-capture stage. Together, those details place AI experimentation within a larger pipeline that includes concept development, capture and visual-effects production rather than presenting it as an isolated software feature.
The Hyderabad announcement adds geographic context: the 32,000-square-foot site was described as Eyeline’s fifth global location in 2026. It does not reveal how much of that facility is devoted to generative AI or whether the VIEW examples were created there.
Bottom line for readers following the VIEW talk
The defensible answer to “How is generative AI used by Netflix at Eyeline?” is that Eyeline publicly places it in early visual development, on-set visualization and advanced post-production, with artists retaining creative responsibility. Netflix has linked that work to The Eternaut. The session’s precise tools, shots, review methods and business results remain undisclosed in the public listings and promotions available for October 13, 2026.
