For the assembled LEGO PlayStation 72306 console, reserve at least 26 cm (10.5 in) of usable width, 19 cm (7.5 in) of usable depth, and more than 6 cm (2.5 in) of usable height. That is the official console size, not a recommended display allowance.
Plan for a larger area if you want to display the separate controller beside the console, use a protective case, add a riser, or leave enough room to handle and view the model comfortably.

Minimum footprint versus a usable display area
The bare rectangular footprint of the console is approximately 26 × 19 cm, or about 494 square centimetres. In imperial measurements, that is roughly 10.5 × 7.5 inches, or 78.75 square inches. Treat those numbers as a hard minimum for the console, not as an ideal shelf size.
A shelf that exactly matches 26 by 19 cm leaves no tolerance for measuring error, a rear cable channel, a front lip, uneven walls, or the space needed to pick the model up. A shelf can be advertised as 26 cm wide or 19 cm deep while offering less usable internal space because of side panels, trim, hinges, or a recessed back.
The controller is a separate display element. The published console dimensions do not provide a controller-clearance allowance, and the official material reviewed does not state the controller’s exact finished dimensions. You must therefore plan the controller’s position separately rather than adding an invented number to the console footprint.

How much extra space should you allow?
There is no single official “recommended shelf size.” A practical allowance depends on the layout you choose:
- Console only: measure for at least 26 cm of width and 19 cm of depth, then add a margin so the model is not wedged against the shelf sides or back.
- Console with controller beside it: reserve the entire console footprint plus the controller’s measured width or depth in the direction where you place it. Leave enough separation that the pieces do not touch when you set them down.
- Case display: use the case’s internal dimensions, not its external dimensions. Internal width and depth must exceed 26 and 19 cm, and internal height must exceed 6 cm before accounting for any base, lid, or padding.
- Riser display: count the riser’s own footprint. A riser can improve visibility but may consume the clearance that the console otherwise had on the shelf.
These are planning rules, not additional LEGO specifications. The right margin is the one that fits your chosen controller position, case, and shelf construction.

Will it fit on your shelf?
Check the shelf’s usable internal dimensions in three directions. Measure the opening at the point where the console will sit, because a skirting board, back panel, shelf lip, or cabinet frame can reduce the apparent size.
- Measure clear width. Measure from the left obstruction to the right obstruction. The result must be at least 26 cm for the console body. If the controller will sit on the same level, include its measured placement in this dimension or use a different direction for it.
- Measure clear depth. Measure from the front edge or door plane to the rear obstruction. You need at least 19 cm for the console body. Check that a front retaining lip does not intrude into the model’s base area.
- Measure clear height. Measure from the shelf surface to the lowest obstruction above it. The opening must be greater than 6 cm, not merely equal to 6 cm, because the published height is “over” 6 cm and because the model needs room to be placed and removed.
- Check the access path. A model may fit inside a cubby but fail to enter through its door opening. Measure the narrowest part of the route, including cabinet doors and frame edges.
- Mark the footprint. Use removable tape to mark a 26 × 19 cm rectangle on the shelf. This shows immediately whether the console would sit over a lip, collide with a wall, or leave an impractical front edge.
- Place the controller mock-up. Once you know the controller’s intended orientation, mark that area with a second piece of tape. Do not assume it can occupy unused space without checking the actual controller and its stand, if you use one.
Display layouts and the space each one needs
Console alone on an open shelf
This is the simplest arrangement. The non-negotiable rectangle is 26 cm wide by 19 cm deep, with more than 6 cm above it. Extra space around the sides makes the console easier to see and reduces the chance of catching it with a hand when reaching for another item.
Depth matters even when the shelf is wider than necessary. If the back of the shelf is open, the console still needs a stable 19 cm landing area. If the shelf has a deep rear trim or a power strip mounted behind it, measure from that obstruction rather than from the wall.
Console and controller side by side
Side-by-side placement usually increases the required width, but the amount cannot be calculated from the console specification alone because the controller’s finished dimensions and display angle are not stated in the official information. Measure the controller in the orientation you will actually use, including a stand or support if applicable, then add that occupied width to the 26 cm console width.
If the shelf is not wide enough, rotate the arrangement: place the controller in front of or behind the console only if doing so does not block the console’s details, exceed the 19 cm depth, or create an unstable overhang. A separate shelf level is another option. The best layout is the one that keeps both pieces visible without forcing either one against an edge.

Inside a cabinet or cube shelf
Enclosed furniture adds three checks beyond the raw dimensions: the internal opening, the door opening, and the clearance above the model. A cabinet can have a nominal shelf depth greater than 19 cm while its door frame narrows the usable entrance. Measure the narrowest opening and the shelf surface independently.

With an acrylic or glass case
Case sizing should start with internal clearance. Specify an interior wider than 26 cm, deeper than 19 cm, and higher than 6 cm for the console alone. Then account for the case base, any internal plinth, corner padding, and the room needed to lift the model out without scraping it against the lid.
External case dimensions can be several centimetres larger than the protected display because of wall thickness and a base. Compare the case’s stated internal measurements with your shelf’s usable measurements; comparing external case size with the console size can produce a false fit.
On a riser or angled stand
A riser changes the vertical calculation. The console itself is over 6 cm high, and the riser adds its own height, so measure from the shelf surface to the highest part of the complete arrangement. The riser also consumes horizontal and depth space. Use the riser’s footprint, or the larger of the riser footprint and the console footprint, when checking the shelf.

The following examples show how to apply the measurements without pretending that an unmeasured controller will fit a particular shelf.

For example, a shelf that measures exactly 26 cm by 19 cm is a theoretical console-only fit. It is not a comfortable display fit, because any measurement error or obstruction removes the remaining tolerance. A wider and deeper shelf may be suitable, but you should still tape out the console rectangle and the controller’s measured area before committing to the layout.

The official height is over 6 cm, which is modest compared with many shelves. The challenge is not usually vertical capacity for the console alone; it is the opening above the model and the ability to place your hands around it. In a tight cubby, the model may technically fit while being difficult to retrieve.
Keep the front edge clear enough to see the console’s face and to avoid knocking it when reaching past it. If a shelf has a raised lip, include that lip in the depth measurement. If the model is behind a glass door, check reflections and the door’s swing or sliding path before final placement.

Common fit mistakes and fixes
Using packaging dimensions
The 26 × 19 × over-6 cm figures apply to the assembled console. The retail carton is a different object and can be substantially larger. Measure the display location for the assembled model, not the box.
Measuring outside dimensions
Furniture listings often give outside dimensions. Re-measure the clear opening inside the side panels, back, doors, and lips. The inside measurement is the one that determines fit.
Allowing exactly 6 cm of height
Because the published height is over 6 cm, a 6 cm opening is already too small on paper. Choose an opening taller than that and include any base, riser, or case hardware.
Forgetting the controller
The console’s official footprint does not include a controller placed beside it. Decide on the controller layout first, measure its occupied area, and then evaluate the combined arrangement.
Assuming a case has the same internal and external size
Walls, lids, hinges, and bases reduce interior clearance. Ask for or measure the internal width, depth, and height, then compare those values with the console and controller arrangement.
Ignoring the route into the shelf
A deep shelf does not help if the cabinet door opening is narrower than the model or case. Measure the narrowest entry point and plan how you will remove the model for cleaning or rearrangement.
A practical measuring checklist
- Identify the exact model as LEGO PlayStation 72306.
- Record at least 26 cm of clear width for the console.
- Record at least 19 cm of clear depth for the console.
- Record more than 6 cm of clear height.
- Measure internal furniture dimensions, not advertised external dimensions.
- Mark the 26 × 19 cm console footprint with tape.
- Measure the controller and any stand in the intended orientation.
- Add case walls, base thickness, riser size, and handling clearance where applicable.
- Check the cabinet or case entry route as well as the final shelf position.
- Confirm that the shelf and any riser are stable and suitable for the display.
