Antihost offers VPS plans with one-click n8n, NVMe storage and a 14-day free trial.
Plan on about $5–$20 per month for a basic, single-instance n8n installation on a 4 GB VPS. That estimate comes from third-party hosting guides and is not a live quote. A queue-mode deployment with Redis, PostgreSQL, workers and Docker generally needs around 8 GB of RAM, so its VPS bill is higher. Managed hosting can cost more than a small raw VPS, while high availability requires an n8n Enterprise licence in addition to infrastructure.
The server invoice is only part of the total. You also pay with your own time for installation, upgrades, monitoring, backups, security and troubleshooting. This guide breaks down the 2026 cost ranges, hardware requirements and architecture choices so you can budget before deploying.

2026 n8n VPS cost at a glance
| Deployment | Typical resources | Reported monthly price | What the figure means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic single instance | 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM, approximately 20–40 GB disk | $5–$20 | Range repeated by third-party hosting guides; publication year and live availability were not stated. |
| Budget VPS example | 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM, 40 GB disk | About $4.51 | Reported price for a Hetzner CX22; not live-verified and may vary by region, taxes or billing term. |
| Testing VPS example | Provider-defined KVM1 or KVM2 plans | $10 or $20 | VPS.US figures described as testing plans; specifications were not supplied in the guide. |
| Production VPS example | Provider-defined KVM4 plan | $40 | VPS.US figure labelled for production; exact resources and current availability were not verified. |
| 8 GB general-purpose VPS | 4 vCPU, 8 GB RAM, 128 GB NVMe | About $19.16 | Reported MassiveGrid Professional price; third-party figure, not a live quote. |
| Managed n8n hosting | 1 vCPU, 2 GB RAM | About $17 | Elestio price cited by one guide; plan limits, backups and current price were not independently verified. |
These numbers are best treated as planning bands rather than guaranteed 2026 prices. The cited figures come largely from vendor blogs, some of which sell VPS services, and several pages did not state a publication year. Confirm the final amount, data-centre region, taxes, backup fees and renewal rate with the provider before ordering.
What a basic n8n VPS needs
A small installation runs one n8n main process and a database on the same server. Guides commonly repeat a minimum of 2 vCPU, 2 GB RAM and 20 GB SSD, but an official sizing page with those exact numbers was not confirmed. Treat them as an unverified floor, not a production guarantee.

Practical starting point
For a personal project, light automation or a few scheduled workflows, 2 vCPU and 4 GB RAM gives more headroom than the frequently quoted 2 GB minimum. Reserve at least 20 GB of disk and monitor free space. Execution history, logs, Docker images and binary files can consume storage faster than the workflow definitions themselves.
When to choose 8 GB
Move toward 8 GB RAM and four vCPUs when workflows run in parallel, process large payloads, perform browser or code-heavy tasks, or serve several users. One queue-mode guide sizes a stack containing PostgreSQL, Redis, n8n, two workers and Docker at approximately 8 GB RAM. Actual consumption depends on node types, execution duration and concurrency, so leave operating-system headroom rather than allocating every byte to containers.
Disk and retention planning
Twenty gigabytes is a starting point, not a retention policy. Decide how long executions and logs must remain available, then calculate storage for that period. Aggressive pruning can keep a small disk viable; keeping large JSON or binary results for months may require a larger volume or external object storage.

Why the architecture changes the bill
Database choice
n8n recommends PostgreSQL 13 or later for production-style deployments. SQLite may be convenient for a disposable experiment, but it is not supported for distributed queue-mode setups. Running PostgreSQL on the same VPS avoids a second server charge at small scale; using a managed database adds a separate recurring bill but can simplify backups and maintenance.
Queue mode and Redis
Queue mode separates the main process from workers. Redis acts as the message broker and PostgreSQL remains the database. Each additional worker consumes CPU and memory, and workers can be placed on separate machines if they can reach Redis and the database. That flexibility lets you scale gradually, but it also means paying for more compute, network traffic and operational monitoring.
Binary data in queue mode
Filesystem binary storage is not supported in queue mode. Persisted binaries therefore need S3-compatible external storage, which introduces a storage and, depending on the provider, request or egress charge. Estimate the size and retention of attachments before selecting queue mode; otherwise the inexpensive VPS can be overshadowed by object-storage growth.

Concurrency and database connections
n8n recommends a concurrency value of five or higher per worker. Setting concurrency too low while adding many workers can exhaust the database connection pool, creating failures without using all available CPU. Size the PostgreSQL connection pool and worker count together, and increase one variable at a time while watching queue latency and database errors.
Task runners
In queue mode, each worker needs its own sidecar container for task runners. Include those containers in RAM, CPU, image-storage and update calculations. A nominal two-worker design is therefore more than two additional n8n processes.
Load balancing and high availability
Keep the main process out of the webhook load-balancer pool; routing webhook traffic to it can degrade UI responsiveness. Multi-main high availability is available only with a self-hosted Enterprise licence and requires sticky sessions behind a load balancer. The licence, load balancer, extra main instances, shared database, Redis and backup design all sit above the VPS price.
Example budgets by use case
| Use case | Likely design | Infrastructure budget | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Learning or personal automations | Single n8n instance, PostgreSQL on the same 4 GB VPS | Roughly $5–$20/month | Lowest cost, but you handle every update and recovery. |
| Small production workload | 4 GB VPS, scheduled backups, execution pruning and monitoring | Server in the basic range plus backup charges | Affordable, but a single machine remains a single point of failure. |
| Parallel or payload-heavy workflows | 8 GB VPS, PostgreSQL and Redis, queue mode with workers | Often near the high end of small-VPS pricing or above it | More throughput and isolation, with more services to operate. |
| Managed operation | Provider-managed n8n instance | About $17/month was reported for one 1-vCPU/2-GB plan | Less server administration; verify included backups, limits and support. |
| High availability | Multiple mains, load balancer with sticky sessions, workers and Enterprise | Infrastructure plus an Enterprise licence | Resilience and maintenance options at substantially higher total cost. |
The table separates infrastructure bands from total ownership cost. A $10 VPS that requires several hours of monthly maintenance can be more expensive for a business than a managed plan, even when its invoice is lower.

Self-managed VPS versus managed hosting
Raw VPS
With a raw VPS you install Linux, Docker, n8n, PostgreSQL and (if needed) Redis yourself. You control versions, networking, reverse-proxy settings and data location. This is usually the cheapest route and works well when you already operate servers. The obligations are equally clear: apply security updates, test restores, rotate credentials, monitor disk and memory, and respond when a workflow or container fails.
Managed n8n service
A managed service can remove much of the operating-system and Docker work. The cited approximately $17/month example used 1 vCPU and 2 GB RAM, which may suit light workloads but is not directly comparable with an 8 GB queue-mode server. Confirm whether the plan includes PostgreSQL, Redis, execution retention, binary storage, backups, custom domains, support and overage pricing. A low headline price can exclude the features that make managed hosting valuable.
Cloud subscription comparison
One third-party source cited an n8n Cloud Pro price of $50 per month for 10,000 executions and 15 active workflows. That amount was not verified on n8n.io, so do not treat it as a current quote. Compare a cloud plan with the full self-hosting total: VPS, backups, external storage, monitoring, labour and the cost of downtime. Cloud pricing may be preferable when predictable support and less maintenance matter more than infrastructure control.

Installing a cost-conscious production stack
For a self-managed deployment, the host documentation requires Docker on Linux or macOS (or WSL on Windows). Docker Compose is recommended for production setups that include databases. A sensible sequence is:
- Select capacity. Start with a 4 GB VPS for a single instance; choose approximately 8 GB when planning queue mode with Redis and two workers.
- Prepare the host. Apply operating-system updates, create a non-root administration path, configure a firewall and set a hostname. Keep the VPS in a region permitted by your data-protection requirements.
- Deploy with Compose. Run n8n and PostgreSQL as persistent services. Add Redis, workers and task-runner sidecars only when queue mode is required.
- Protect secrets. Store database passwords, encryption keys and API credentials outside public repositories. Restrict database and Redis ports to the private network.
- Configure retention. Set execution pruning and log rotation before production traffic arrives. Check that pruning does not remove records your support or audit process requires.
- Add backups. Back up PostgreSQL and n8n’s persistent data, then perform a test restore on a separate environment. A backup that has never been restored is only an assumption.
- Measure the workload. Watch RAM, CPU, disk, queue wait time, failed executions and database connections. Increase capacity only after identifying the bottleneck.
- Scale deliberately. Add workers when the queue is the bottleneck, increase memory when the host swaps, and move binaries to S3-compatible storage when local disk becomes the constraint.
The official n8n documentation is the appropriate place to verify current container variables and architecture details: docs.n8n.io. Labels and configuration options can change between n8n releases, so follow the version-specific instructions for your deployment.
Costs people forget to include
- Backups: provider snapshots or a separate backup target add a recurring charge, but are essential for recovery.
- External object storage: queue-mode binaries require S3-compatible storage, with capacity, request and possible egress fees.
- Monitoring: metrics, uptime checks and alert delivery may be billed separately or consume another small server.
- Domain and TLS: a domain, DNS service and reverse-proxy certificate management have administrative overhead even when certificates are free.
- Maintenance time: upgrades, vulnerability response, credential rotation, failed-job investigation and restore tests are part of self-hosting.
- Scaling and redundancy: a second VPS, managed database, Redis service, load balancer and Enterprise licence can dwarf the original $5–$20 server.
- Provider terms: prices can differ by region, tax status, hourly versus monthly billing, storage type and promotional period.
How to choose the right 2026 budget
- Count executions and parallelism. A few sequential schedules can fit a 4 GB server; simultaneous, long-running or payload-heavy jobs point toward 8 GB and queue mode.
- Classify data. If workflows move files or retain large binaries, price external object storage instead of assuming local disk is sufficient.
- Set an outage tolerance. If one-server downtime is acceptable, a single VPS is economical. If not, budget for redundant components and the Enterprise HA requirement.
- Value administration time. Choose a managed service when patching and recovery work costs more than the price difference.
- Verify before committing. Recheck current provider tariffs, included backups, network limits, resource guarantees and n8n licence terms at checkout.
For most individuals and small teams, the defensible starting budget is a 4 GB single instance in the $5–$20 monthly band, plus backups and the value of maintenance time. Queue mode, external binary storage, managed components or high availability should be priced as separate line items rather than hidden inside the word “VPS.”
