There is no single EcoTank cost per page. Your result depends on the exact model, bottle price in your market, the standardized yield used for the calculation, what you print, and ink consumed during maintenance. As a concrete U.S. example, the Epson EcoTank ET-2800 uses 522 bottles. Epson rates replacement bottles at 4,500 black pages and 7,500 color pages; using Epson’s listed U.S. prices produces an illustrative ink-only cost of about 0.40 cents per rated black page and 0.72 cents per rated color page for the cyan, magenta and yellow portion.
The ET-2800 calculation at a glance
The figures below use Epson U.S. specifications and listed prices accessed in 2026. They are arithmetic estimates from bottle price divided by Epson’s rated replacement yield, not measurements of a particular owner’s prints.
| Item | Epson figure | Calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| 522 black replacement bottle | $17.99; 4,500 rated pages | $17.99 ÷ 4,500 | About $0.0040, or 0.40 cents per rated black page |
| 522 cyan, magenta and yellow bottles | $53.97 for three bottles from the $71.95 four-pack; 7,500 rated color pages | $53.97 ÷ 7,500 | About $0.0072, or 0.72 cents per rated color page for the CMY portion |
| 522 C/M/Y/K four-pack | $71.95 | Contains three color bottles and one black bottle | Do not divide the full pack price by the color yield; black and color usage must be allocated separately |
The black result is the cost of black ink under the rated test assumption. The 0.72-cent color result covers only cyan, magenta and yellow. A mixed page can consume black and color ink together, so it does not have one universal price unless you know the page’s ink mix. Neither result includes paper, the printer’s purchase price, electricity, shipping, taxes or service.

EcoTank is a family of refillable-ink printers, not one consumable system. Bottle codes, bottle prices and rated yields vary by model and country. Even within one model, a page with a small black text block uses much less ink than a full-page photograph. A calculation that omits the model, currency, bottle price and yield assumption can look precise while being misleading.

Prices are also volatile. The ET-2800 prices above are Epson’s U.S. listings accessed in 2026, so check the current listing before budgeting. A retailer discount, regional tax or temporary promotion changes the arithmetic without changing the printer’s rated yield.
Finally, Epson’s page yield is a standardized comparison estimate. It is useful for comparing products tested under the same method, but it is not a promise that every owner will obtain exactly that number of sheets.
How to calculate your own EcoTank cost per page
Use replacement-bottle data for a meaningful running-cost estimate. Initial bottles supplied with a new printer are partly consumed during setup, so their effective yield is lower than the replacement-bottle yield Epson publishes.
- Identify the exact printer. Record the complete model name and region, such as ET-2800 in the United States. Similar-looking models can use different bottle codes.
- Match the bottle code. Find the replacement black bottle and each color bottle or set specified for that model. Do not substitute a price from another EcoTank family.
- Use a current local price. Record the price for the individual bottle or set in your currency. Note whether the amount is a one-time sale price and whether tax or shipping is excluded.
- Use the replacement yield. Take the black and color yields from the model’s specification. Do not use the lower startup-fill yield when estimating ongoing purchases.
- Allocate the ink you are measuring. For black-only pages, use the black bottle price and black yield. For a color estimate, use the three color-bottle cost and the color yield, and state that the result is CMY-only unless black usage is included.
- Divide price by yield. The basic equation is bottle or attributable set price ÷ rated pages. Multiply dollars per page by 100 to express the result in cents.
- Add non-ink costs separately. If you need a total cost per sheet, add paper, electricity, printer acquisition and any service or maintenance expense rather than hiding them inside the ink number.
Epson Europe describes the same general approach as average selling price divided by yield and uses the ISO/IEC 24712 test pattern for its broader cost-per-page comparisons. Keep the test standard beside your result so that comparisons remain like-for-like.
Understanding the ET-2800 numbers
Black pages
Epson lists 4,500 black pages for a replacement 522 black bottle and a U.S. price of $17.99. Dividing $17.99 by 4,500 gives $0.003997 per rated page, which rounds to 0.40 cents. This is an ink-only estimate for the black component; it does not mean a text document costs exactly four-tenths of a cent in practice.

Color pages
Epson’s 522 C/M/Y/K four-pack is listed at $71.95. The three color bottles account for $53.97 when the black bottle’s listed $17.99 price is subtracted. Dividing $53.97 by the 7,500-page color yield gives about $0.007196, or 0.72 cents per rated page for CMY. Because the four-pack also contains black ink, dividing $71.95 by 7,500 would incorrectly charge the entire black bottle to color pages.
Mixed documents and photographs
A page containing colored graphics and black text can draw from all four reservoirs. Epson does not provide one universal ET-2800 percentage split for every mixed page in the cited specifications, so the two component figures cannot be combined into a single honest price without an assumed ink mix. State the assumption if you create a planning estimate; otherwise report black and CMY components separately.
What the simple division leaves out
Paper
Plain office paper, coated presentation stock and photo paper can have radically different prices. Since the ET-2800 figures describe ink only, add the price of the sheet used for each job. A low ink number does not make expensive photo paper inexpensive.
Printer purchase and ownership
The initial printer price, sales tax, delivery, electricity and eventual service are separate from consumable cost. If you are comparing printers, calculate an ownership total over the period you expect to keep the machine: purchase price plus ink, paper and other known costs, divided by the number of sheets you expect to print.
Maintenance ink
Epson states: “All ink colors are used for printing and printer maintenance, and all colors must be available for printing.” Cleaning cycles and other maintenance therefore consume ink that does not appear on a printed page. A printer may also refuse to print when one color is unavailable, even if the current document appears black-only.

Why your actual yield can be lower or higher
Epson’s ET-2800 product information says, “Actual ink yields will vary considerably for reasons including images printed, print settings, temperature and humidity.” Those variables affect how quickly a bottle empties:
Recommended Free Tools
- Coverage: Dense graphics, dark backgrounds and photographs deposit more ink than lightly formatted text.
- Settings: Draft or economy modes generally lay down less ink than high-quality modes, while borderless photo printing can use substantial coverage.
- Color balance: A document dominated by one color can empty that bottle first even when the nominal color yield is stated as a combined figure.
- Environment: Epson specifically identifies temperature and humidity as yield factors.
- Print frequency: Long periods without printing can trigger cleaning or maintenance routines, consuming ink without adding pages to your job.
- Setup: Some of the ink supplied with a new printer is used to charge the print system, so startup bottles do not represent the same usable page count as replacement bottles.
For a household budget, treat the rated calculation as a baseline. Keep your own bottle purchase dates and page counts if you need a measured personal average; do not present that result as the manufacturer’s standardized yield.
A monthly planning example
Epson U.S. used about 125 pages per month as an average document-print volume in a 2021 two-year ink estimate for the ET-2800. That figure is a usage assumption for the estimate, not a recommended limit or a guarantee of what a particular household prints.
If all 125 pages in a month were treated as black pages solely for an illustrative calculation, the rated ink portion would be 125 × $0.003997, or about $0.50 for that month. Over 12 months, the same hypothetical black-only volume would be about $6.00 in ink. Real mixed documents require both black and color consumption, and paper and maintenance remain additional costs, so this example is a planning benchmark rather than a typical household bill.

Epson India publishes a total color cost-per-print example of 33 paise for listed L-series models in India: 24 paise for cyan, magenta and yellow plus 9 paise for black. The page uses stated yields of 7,500 composite color pages and 4,500 black pages, ISO 24711/24712 patterns and Epson’s Indian bottle maximum retail prices.

- INNOVATIVE CARTRIDGE-FREE PRINTING — No more dealing with tiny, expensive ink cartridges; With this wireless printer each ink bottle set is equivalent to about 80 individual cartridges²
- LESS FREQUENT INK REPLACEMENT — Replacement ink bottles don't have to be changed nearly as often as ink cartridges¹; Color printer lets you print up to 4,500 black and white pages and 7,200 color³
- PRINT FOR LONGER — Up to 2 years of ink in the box⁴ (and with every replacement ink set) for fewer out-of-ink frustrations; This home printer keeps printing longer
- HIGH CAPACITY INK TANKS – Printer, scanner and copier utilizes Epson’s exclusive EcoFit ink bottles, making the refill process easy and worry-free
- ZERO CARTRIDGE WASTE — By using an Epson EcoTank printer you can help reduce the amount of cartridge waste ending up in landfills; Cartridge-free printer utilizes ink bottles for more convenience and less waste
That 33-paise figure demonstrates how a manufacturer can publish a composite color estimate, but it is not a U.S. price and should not be applied to an ET-2800 owner elsewhere. Currency, bottle pricing, model compatibility and regional test disclosures all matter. Keep the Indian result labeled with its market and listed model family whenever you cite it.
How to compare two printers fairly
Whether you are comparing two EcoTank models or a refillable printer with a cartridge printer, put the same facts in each column:
| Comparison item | What to record | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Market and currency | Country, currency and date of each price | Ink prices are regional and change over time |
| Consumable identity | Exact bottle or cartridge code | Prevents mixing prices from incompatible models |
| Yield basis | Replacement yield, test standard and whether it is black, CMY or composite color | Startup fills and different test patterns are not equivalent |
| Ink allocation | Black-only, CMY-only or black-plus-color | Stops a four-bottle set from being charged entirely to one page category |
| Excluded costs | Paper, printer, electricity, maintenance and service | Shows whether a quoted number is ink-only or total ownership cost |
Epson Europe’s calculator and comparison material use bottle or cartridge average selling price divided by yield and refer to the ISO/IEC 24712 pattern. Using that same framework makes a comparison more defensible than repeating a retailer’s unsourced “cost per page” badge.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Quoting one EcoTank number for every model: Always name the model and market.
- Using the printer’s included ink as replacement ink: Setup consumption lowers the initial yield.
- Charging the entire four-pack to color: Separate the black bottle or explain the composite assumption.
- Calling the result a total printing cost: Say “ink-only” unless paper and ownership costs are included.
- Treating rated yield as a guarantee: Coverage, settings, environment, infrequent printing and maintenance alter actual consumption.
- Applying a regional example globally: The 33-paise Indian figure does not establish a U.S. or other-country price.
- Ignoring bottle availability: Epson says all colors must be available for printing, even when a job appears monochrome.
A practical worksheet
For your own records, write down the model, bottle codes, purchase date, local bottle prices, replacement yields and the test standard. Calculate black and each color category separately, then record the number as “ink-only, rated-yield estimate.” If you need a household average, log pages printed and bottles purchased over several refill cycles and keep paper purchases in a separate column. This preserves the distinction between a standardized comparison figure and your actual operating cost.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesBottom line
For the U.S. Epson EcoTank ET-2800 example, Epson’s 522 replacement-bottle data works out to about 0.40 cents per rated black page and 0.72 cents per rated color page for CMY, using $17.99 black and $71.95 C/M/Y/K four-pack pricing accessed in 2026. Those are useful benchmarks, not universal promises: identify your model and region, use current replacement-bottle prices and yields, label whether black is included, and add paper, printer ownership and maintenance when you need a true cost per sheet.
