Coolify itself can cost $0 in license fees when you self-host it. You still pay for the server, storage, bandwidth, backups and the time needed to operate that server. Coolify Cloud starts at $5 per month for two connected servers, then adds $3 per month for each additional connected server. That subscription manages the Coolify control plane, but your applications and databases still run on infrastructure that you provide and pay for.

The practical monthly total therefore depends less on the Coolify license than on your workload, provider, region, storage, backup policy and required uptime.

What you pay for when running Coolify

Coolify is a self-hosted deployment platform for applications, databases and services. Its cost has two separate parts: the platform fee and the infrastructure bill.

  • Platform fee: Self-hosted Coolify has no license charge. Coolify Cloud costs $5 per month for up to two connected servers, plus $3 per month for every additional connected server, according to the price published in 2026.
  • Infrastructure: You pay for the VPS, dedicated server, virtual machine or physical device that runs your workloads. This bill can include attached storage, snapshots, backup storage, data transfer and public IP addresses.
  • Operations: Someone must install and update the operating system and Coolify, secure SSH and the firewall, monitor capacity, maintain backups and respond to failures. With self-hosting, that work is yours. With Coolify Cloud, the Coolify control plane is managed for you, but the workload servers remain your responsibility.

Coolify’s documentation describes self-hosting as running a Coolify instance on infrastructure you control. “Free” therefore means free software licensing, not free hosting.

Self-hosted Coolify: the license is free, the server is not

There is no recurring Coolify subscription for a normal self-hosted installation. You install the control plane on a Linux machine and connect the resources where your applications and databases run. Your monthly cost is the infrastructure provider’s charge and any services you add around it.

Documented minimum resources

The documented self-hosted minimum is 2 CPU cores, 2 GB of RAM and 10 GB of free disk space. These figures are a baseline for running Coolify, not a promise that they are sufficient for every application. Docker images, build caches, persistent volumes, databases and backups all consume additional capacity.

Coolify notes that a 1-core, 1-GB server may work when minimizing cost is the overriding priority, but it is not recommended. Treat that configuration as a constrained experiment rather than a production target.

Why the minimum is rarely your final size

The control plane is only one workload. A deployment that builds several images at once, runs a database, keeps logs and stores user uploads can exhaust a small machine even when Coolify itself is healthy. Memory pressure can terminate containers, while a full disk can stop image builds and database writes.

Keep headroom for simultaneous builds, operating-system updates and temporary files. If you use local backups, count their size against the same disk. If you use a separate backup service, include its recurring charge and transfer costs instead.

How much server capacity do you need?

DigitalOcean’s 2026 Coolify guidance lists 2 CPU cores, 2 GB of RAM and 30 GB of storage for a Coolify-only 1-Click installation. Its production examples increase memory as the application count grows:

Workload example Published guidance What the figure means
Coolify only 2 CPU cores, 2 GB RAM, 30 GB storage A provider example for the platform itself; it does not size your applications or databases.
1–3 small applications 4 GB RAM A production-oriented example; CPU, disk and traffic still need separate evaluation.
5–10 applications plus databases 8 GB RAM Allows more concurrent services, but database size and build activity can change the requirement.
10 or more applications or services 16 GB RAM or more Additional capacity may be needed for builds, databases, queues, monitoring and redundancy.

These are sizing examples, not universal plans or guaranteed performance levels. A single memory-heavy service can require more resources than several small static sites. Measure CPU, memory, disk and network use after deployment and resize before the machine starts swapping or filling.

Coolify Cloud pricing

Coolify Cloud is a paid service for the Coolify control plane. The published 2026 price is:

Connected servers Coolify Cloud platform charge How it is calculated
Up to 2 $5 per month Base subscription, covering two connected servers.
3 $8 per month $5 base plus $3 for one additional server.
4 $11 per month $5 base plus $3 for each of two additional servers.
5 $14 per month $5 base plus $3 for each of three additional servers.

The formula is $5 + ($3 × the number of connected servers above two). The amount is the Coolify Cloud subscription only. It does not include the VPS or other machines connected to it.

What the subscription changes

Cloud reduces the maintenance burden for the Coolify control plane. You do not have to maintain that control-plane server in the same way as a self-hosted installation. You still choose, fund and operate the servers that run containers, databases and persistent data. You remain responsible for workload-level updates, application configuration, secrets, firewall rules, backups and capacity planning.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Connecting a server also does not make that server free. If you connect two low-cost VPSs, your total is the $5 subscription plus both providers’ charges. If you connect five servers, use the $14 platform charge plus all five infrastructure bills and any storage or backup services.

VPS, dedicated hardware and small devices

Coolify supports several infrastructure types, so the right choice depends on workload, reliability and how much administration you want to perform. Provider pricing varies by region, billing period, CPU model, storage type, bandwidth allowance, snapshots and backup retention; there is no universal VPS total that applies everywhere.

Infrastructure choice Typical use Cost factors to check Operational trade-off
VPS Most small and medium deployments Plan size, region, SSD or NVMe storage, transfer quota, backups and extra IPs Fastest path to deployment, but resources are shared with the provider’s virtualization layer.
Dedicated server Many services, heavy databases or strict isolation Hardware generation, disks, bandwidth, setup fees, replacement and remote-management charges More predictable resources, with greater responsibility for capacity and failure recovery.
Virtual machine you already operate Organizations with an existing cluster or private cloud Allocated vCPU and RAM, datastore space, egress, snapshots and cluster overhead May avoid a new provider bill but still consumes internal capacity and administrator time.
Raspberry Pi 5 Learning, home labs and small experimental services Board, 64-bit storage, power supply, cooling, network equipment, electricity and off-device backups Low purchase cost, but home connectivity, hardware durability and recovery are your responsibility.

A 64-bit Raspberry Pi OS installation is supported, making a Raspberry Pi 5 a legitimate low-cost physical option for small deployments. It is not automatically equivalent to a managed data-center VPS: you must provide reliable power, storage, networking and a backup destination.

Coolify’s provider guidance recommends Hetzner for users who have not selected a provider. DigitalOcean offers an official Coolify 1-Click application. Coolify’s provisioning workflow also supports accounts from Hetzner, DigitalOcean and Vultr. Those integrations simplify provisioning; they do not standardize the providers’ prices or service limits.

Build a realistic monthly budget

Use a line-item estimate rather than a single headline number. Add the following for each server:

  1. Compute: the recurring VPS, virtual-machine or dedicated-server charge for the selected region and billing term.
  2. Primary storage: the disk included with the server plus any attached volume for databases, uploads or build artifacts.
  3. Data transfer: outbound traffic, overage rates and any separate private-network charges.
  4. Backups and snapshots: automated image backups, retained snapshots and an off-site copy. Verify whether backup pricing is per gigabyte, per server or a percentage of the server price.
  5. Addresses and add-ons: additional IPv4 addresses, managed databases, object storage, monitoring or log retention.
  6. Coolify Cloud, if used: add $5 per month for the first two connected servers and $3 for each additional one.

For example, a three-server Cloud setup has an $8 Coolify platform charge before infrastructure costs. A self-hosted setup with the same three servers has no Coolify license charge, but all three servers still incur their provider and operating costs. These examples show the calculation; they are not provider quotations.

Self-hosted versus Cloud: which costs less?

Choose self-hosting when

  • You are comfortable administering Linux, Docker, SSH access, firewalls and upgrades.
  • You want to avoid the $5 monthly base subscription and are prepared to maintain the control plane yourself.
  • You already have suitable hardware or a virtual machine with spare capacity.
  • You need full control over where the control plane and its data reside.

Choose Coolify Cloud when

  • You want to remove control-plane installation and maintenance from your routine.
  • The $5 monthly base charge is worthwhile for your team’s time and operational simplicity.
  • You still have, or are willing to purchase, the workload servers separately.
  • You prefer to connect multiple servers while paying a predictable platform fee based on server count.

Cloud is not a replacement for a VPS budget. It is a managed-control-plane option. The cost decision is therefore the Cloud subscription plus infrastructure versus self-hosted infrastructure plus the time and risk of maintaining the control plane yourself.

One-time and ongoing work that can become a cost

Installation and migration

Initial deployment may require domain and DNS configuration, SSH keys, firewall rules, TLS certificates, registry access and database migration. If you pay an administrator or consultant, that labor is separate from both Coolify and VPS pricing. Moving later can also involve data-transfer charges and downtime planning.

Backups and restore testing

A backup that has never been restored is an assumption, not a proven recovery plan. Budget for a second location or storage system, retention space and periodic restore tests. Databases and uploaded files usually need a different backup approach from disposable container images.

Updates and monitoring

Self-hosting requires a schedule for operating-system patches, Coolify updates, container image updates and security reviews. Monitoring can be free software on your server, a paid external service or a combination. Include alert delivery, log retention and the time needed to investigate incidents.

Common cost surprises and how to avoid them

  • Buying the minimum disk: image layers, volumes and backups can fill a 10 GB disk quickly. Check free space before every major deployment and separate backup storage when possible.
  • Ignoring memory spikes: concurrent builds and database operations can use considerably more RAM than an idle application. Leave upgrade headroom instead of sizing only for average use.
  • Assuming bandwidth is unlimited: check the provider’s included transfer, overage price and regional routing before serving large files or media.
  • Counting only the Cloud fee: list every connected server and its storage, backup and transfer charges. The $5 or $3 figure covers the platform subscription, not workloads.
  • Using a home device without a recovery path: a Raspberry Pi deployment needs spare storage, reliable power and an off-device backup if the data matters.
  • Comparing different billing terms: monthly, annual, promotional and region-specific prices are not directly interchangeable. Record the currency, term, location and renewal price in your estimate.

A practical decision checklist

  1. List every application, database, queue, worker and scheduled job you intend to run.
  2. Classify each service as stateless, persistent or build-intensive; persistent and build-intensive services usually need extra disk or memory.
  3. Choose a starting capacity using the documented 2-core, 2-GB, 10-GB baseline only for a very small installation, or the larger production examples when you have multiple applications.
  4. Select a provider or physical device and record its region, included storage, transfer allowance, backup price and billing period.
  5. Decide whether you will operate the Coolify control plane yourself or pay the $5 Cloud base charge for up to two connected servers.
  6. Add off-site backups, monitoring, domain and DNS services, and an allowance for future capacity upgrades.
  7. Review actual CPU, memory, disk and network usage after launch, then resize before limits cause failed builds or outages.

Bottom line on Coolify cost

Self-hosted Coolify is free in license terms, with a documented minimum of 2 CPU cores, 2 GB of RAM and 10 GB of free disk. Your real bill is the infrastructure and the operational work around it. Coolify Cloud costs $5 per month for two connected servers and $3 per additional server, but you still pay for and manage the servers running your applications and databases. For an accurate total, obtain a provider-specific quote that states region, billing term, storage, bandwidth, backups and workload size.
