A Bell helicopter can cost anywhere from roughly $1.8 million to $5.9 million on the used Bell 407 market, based on a worldwide listing snapshot taken October 12, 2026. A Bell 429 listing in the same snapshot was priced at $5.45 million or $5.50 million. Those are asking prices, not confirmed sale prices, and they do not establish what a new aircraft costs.
“Bell helicopter” describes a family of aircraft, not one product with one price. Model, year, configuration, total time, maintenance records, remaining life on engines and other components, avionics, mission equipment and location can move the value by millions. Ownership also requires a substantial operating budget: Bell’s February 2026 Bell 429 example estimates $1,237.91 per flight hour including fuel and lubricants under specified assumptions.
The price range at a glance
The most defensible public numbers are for used aircraft. Jet Tracker’s worldwide snapshot queried October 12, 2026 found 16 Bell 407 listings that published prices. They ranged from $1.8 million to $5.9 million, with a median asking price of $3.25 million. The sample includes different years, equipment levels and conditions, so the median is a market indicator rather than an appraisal.

1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThe same snapshot contained 25 Bell 429 listings, but only two displayed a price: $5.45 million and $5.50 million. With just two priced examples, Jet Tracker states that a useful median cannot be calculated. Treat those figures as examples of current advertised prices, not a dependable Bell 429 market range.

| Model | Public price evidence (October 2026 snapshot) | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Bell 407 | $1.8 million–$5.9 million asking prices; $3.25 million median among 16 priced listings | Largest priced sample, but still listings rather than completed transactions |
| Bell 429 | $5.45 million and $5.50 million; only two listings published prices | Too few observations for a stable range or median |
| Bell 505 | Current purchase-price range not stated in the reviewed material | Obtain a model- and equipment-specific quote |
Bell does not publish a current public price list in the reviewed sources. A new-aircraft number therefore requires a dated quotation from Bell or an authorized seller that identifies the aircraft configuration and included equipment.
Why “a Bell helicopter” has no single price
Bell’s commercial range includes aircraft with different missions, capacities and performance. The Bell 505 is a light, five-seat model; the Bell 407GXi is a larger single-engine aircraft; and the Bell 429 is a twin-engine platform. Comparing an older, lightly equipped 407 with a newer 429 configured for a specialized mission is not a meaningful price comparison.
Even within one model, two aircraft can have very different economic value. A buyer should compare like with like on all of the following:

Bell 407: the clearest public used-price signal
The October 2026 Bell 407 sample is useful because 16 listings supplied a price. Its $1.8 million low and $5.9 million high span a broad range, while the $3.25 million median shows where the middle of that particular advertised set fell. It does not mean every Bell 407 should sell near $3.25 million.

What can push a 407 toward the lower end
Lower advertised prices can reflect older airframes, high total time, major components approaching overhaul, incomplete or difficult-to-verify records, dated avionics, cosmetic work, or a configuration that does not match a buyer’s mission. A low purchase price can be offset by immediate maintenance, component replacement or upgrades.
What can support a higher asking price
A newer year, low time, substantial remaining component life, strong records, recent inspections, modern avionics, an autopilot, a well-maintained interior and desirable mission equipment can all support a higher figure. The amount of remaining life matters because a buyer is purchasing future operating time as well as the airframe.
Bell 429: two priced listings are not a market median
Only two of the 25 Bell 429 listings in the same snapshot showed a price: $5.45 million and $5.50 million. The closeness of those two numbers should not be mistaken for evidence that the model normally trades within a $50,000 band. The sample is too small, and unpriced listings may differ materially in age, equipment and condition.
For a 429, compare the same twin-engine variant and mission configuration. Pay particular attention to engine and transmission status, rotor-component life, avionics suite, cabin configuration, inspection history and any equipment installed for passenger, utility or special-mission work.

Bell 505 and the cost of a new aircraft
The reviewed Bell material identifies the Bell 505, Bell 407GXi and Bell 429 as commercial products, but it does not provide a readable current price for the 505. A historical Bell page has a heading for 2018 commercial-product price points without usable figures, so it cannot support a present-day purchase claim.
For a new Bell, request a written quotation that states:
- Exact model, serial or production position and delivery timing
- Standard equipment versus optional equipment
- Avionics, interior, paint and mission configuration
- Training, delivery, warranty and customer-support coverage
- Taxes, freight, registration and other charges for the buyer’s jurisdiction
- Deposit, payment milestones, quote-validity date and escalation terms
Ask Bell or an authorized seller to prepare an ownership analysis using your expected annual hours, fuel price, labor rate, hangar, insurance, crew and warranty assumptions. Without those inputs, a quoted aircraft price is only the acquisition portion of the decision.
How much does it cost to operate a Bell helicopter per hour?
Operating cost depends on utilization and on which expenses are counted. Bell’s February 2026 Bell 429 specification sheet gives a model-specific illustration: estimated direct maintenance and engine costs are $854.11 per flight hour. Bell’s estimated fuel and lubricant subtotal is $383.80 per hour, producing $1,237.91 per hour including fuel.

Those figures assume 76 gallons of fuel per hour at $5 per gallon, labor at $95 per hour, 600 annual flight hours, a basic aircraft without optional equipment, a mature aircraft without warranty considerations and Bell list prices for spare parts. They are an illustrative estimate, not a guaranteed invoice or a universal Bell rate. Bell notes that its ownership analysis can be customized for an operator’s conditions.
A separate Jet Tracker cost engine, using 400 hours per year and a canonical-2026-09 model, estimates total hourly ownership costs of $1,127 for a Bell 505, $1,428 for a Bell 407 GXi and $2,374 for a Bell 429. Those totals combine variable costs with annual fixed expenses divided across 400 hours and include a pilot salary in the profiles. They are catalog estimates, not measured operating results, and cannot be directly equated with Bell’s 429 direct-cost table because the methods and assumptions differ.
| Source and aircraft | Estimated hourly figure | Included assumptions or scope |
|---|---|---|
| Bell 429, Bell specification sheet (February 2026) | $854.11 direct maintenance and engine costs | Direct-cost estimate under Bell’s stated labor, utilization, aircraft and parts assumptions |
| Bell 429, Bell specification sheet (February 2026) | $1,237.91 including fuel and lubricants | Includes the $383.80 fuel-and-lubricant estimate; fuel assumption is 76 gallons per hour at $5 per gallon |
| Bell 505, Jet Tracker cost engine (canonical-2026-09) | $1,127 total estimated ownership cost | 400 annual hours; includes fixed expenses and pilot salary in the profile |
| Bell 407 GXi, Jet Tracker cost engine (canonical-2026-09) | $1,428 total estimated ownership cost | 400 annual hours; includes fixed expenses and pilot salary in the profile |
| Bell 429, Jet Tracker cost engine (canonical-2026-09) | $2,374 total estimated ownership cost | 400 annual hours; includes fixed expenses and pilot salary in the profile |
Costs beyond the advertised purchase price
A realistic ownership budget should separate acquisition, fixed annual expenses and variable flight-hour expenses. The cost models above show why annual utilization matters: fixed expenses are spread across the hours flown, so the effective cost per hour changes when the aircraft flies more or less than the model assumption.
Recommended Free Tools
Fixed expenses
- Hangar or parking
- Insurance and liability coverage
- Annual inspections, subscriptions and administrative costs
- Pilot salary or contracted crew, where applicable
- Financing interest and principal, if the purchase is financed
Variable expenses
- Fuel and lubricants
- Scheduled and unscheduled maintenance
- Engine, transmission and rotor-component reserves
- Parts, consumables and maintenance labor
- Landing, navigation, handling and trip-specific charges
Mission equipment, optional systems and an aircraft’s maintenance status can change both categories. A warranty may reduce some early expenses on a new aircraft, while an older aircraft can require immediate capital work that is not visible in its listing price.

How to establish a fair used-aircraft price
- Define the mission. Specify passenger count, range, payload, operating environment, instrument requirements and annual flight hours before comparing listings.
- Normalize the candidates. Compare the same model and variant, year, total time, equipment and location. Record whether each number is an asking price or a completed sale.
- Review component life. Build a schedule showing time remaining to overhaul or replacement for engines, transmissions, rotor systems and every life-limited part.
- Audit the records. Check logbooks, inspection sign-offs, component histories, damage repairs and compliance with required service actions.
- Commission an independent inspection. Use a qualified inspector who is not financially dependent on the seller. Include a records review and a physical pre-purchase inspection.
- Convert findings into dollars. Obtain written estimates for deferred maintenance, component work, avionics upgrades, paint or interior repairs and ferrying the aircraft.
- Negotiate from total cost. Adjust the offer for verified near-term work and for the value of remaining component life, rather than anchoring on the listing median.
Questions to ask Bell or a seller before signing
- Is the quoted figure for a new aircraft, a demonstrator or a used aircraft?
- Which equipment is standard, optional or excluded?
- What are the delivery date, warranty terms and support obligations?
- For a used aircraft, who completed the maintenance and where are the original records?
- What is the exact remaining life on each major life-limited component?
- Are there open inspections, service actions, damage repairs or liens?
- What fuel burn, labor rate, annual hours and fixed expenses were used in any ownership estimate?
- Which taxes, import costs, ferry costs, training and registration expenses are outside the quoted price?
Frequently asked questions
Is $3.25 million the price of a Bell 407?
No. It is the median asking price among 16 priced Bell 407 listings in a worldwide October 12, 2026 snapshot. Individual aircraft ranged from $1.8 million to $5.9 million, and asking prices are not confirmed sale prices.
Why is there no exact new Bell price here?
The reviewed Bell sources do not publish a current public price list. New pricing depends on model and configuration, so the appropriate figure is a dated quote specifying equipment, delivery and commercial terms.
Which hourly-cost estimate should I use?
Use the estimate whose scope matches your budget. Bell’s $1,237.91 Bell 429 figure includes fuel and lubricants under Bell’s stated assumptions. Jet Tracker’s figures include fixed expenses and pilot salary at 400 annual hours. Neither is a guaranteed invoice for every operator.
