Humanoid robots range from about US$4,900 to US$100,000 in publicly listed hardware, while some models are sold only through enterprise contracts, subscriptions or robots-as-a-service. Those prices are not directly comparable: one may be a base research platform, another a configured machine, and another a service that includes maintenance and software.
There is no reliable, universal annual operating-cost figure. A realistic budget must add delivery, taxes, batteries, charging, computing, software, integration, human supervision, safety work, maintenance and downtime. A 2026 secondary guide uses a rough first-year total of two to three times the hardware price, but that is an estimate—not a vendor quote or an industry standard.
Published humanoid-robot prices
The clearest public prices come from Unitree listings available in 2026. They are manufacturer or shop figures, not guaranteed delivered quotes. Tax, shipping, import duties, configuration, commissioning and local support can materially change the amount you pay.
| Robot or access model | Published or indicative amount | What the figure represents | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Unitree G1 base | US$13,500 | Manufacturer-listed base hardware price | Tax and shipping excluded; options and delivered cost vary. The EDU configuration is contact-sales. |
| Unitree R1 | From US$4,900 | Official shop listing | Confirm the exact configuration, stock and delivery terms before ordering. |
| Unitree H2 | US$29,900 | Official shop listing | Availability and included equipment should be confirmed for the specific order. |
| Unitree H2 Plus | US$100,000 | Official shop listing | Verify configuration, shipping and support scope. |
| Unitree H1 | US$90,000 listing | Official shop listing with a contact-sales qualification | Treat the displayed amount as an indication, not a complete commercial quote. |
| 1X NEO early access | US$20,000, as reported by a 2026 secondary guide | Described early-access offer | The guide does not establish current fulfillment, contract terms or inclusions. |
| 1X NEO subscription | Announced US$499 per month, as reported by the same guide | Consumer-facing subscription option | The guide says shipping was later; term length, service level and availability need confirmation. |
| Agility Digit service or ownership | Illustrative assumptions only | Enterprise robots-as-a-service and ownership examples in a secondary guide | They are not a public rate card or guaranteed contract prices. |
| Tesla Optimus and other prominent systems | Target, pilot or no public price | Future target or restricted enterprise access | A target price or demonstration is not a purchase offer. |
These figures describe different deliverables. A purchase price for a research platform should not be compared with a monthly service that may include maintenance, software updates, uptime commitments and remote assistance.

Why the sticker price is only the starting point
Humanoid robots combine expensive mechanical hardware with battery systems, high-power actuators, sensors, onboard or external computing and safety controls. The advertised amount may cover only the robot body and a basic controller. Before comparing models, ask the seller to state exactly what is included.
- Configuration: Identify the arm, hand, battery, sensor, computing and software package. “Base” and “EDU” versions can have different capabilities and commercial terms.
- Delivery: Request freight, insurance, customs brokerage, import duty, local tax, installation and commissioning as separate line items.
- Capability: Ask whether the quoted system is intended for research, education, a controlled pilot or production work. A lower-priced platform may require substantially more engineering.
- Support: Confirm response times, spare-parts availability, firmware support, training and who performs repairs.
What does it cost to operate a humanoid robot?
No independent, named statistical study establishes a typical annual operating cost for humanoid robots. Manufacturer pages publish selected specifications, but not a complete ledger for energy, labor, repairs, software, integration and downtime. Build the estimate from the robot’s actual duty cycle and the task you intend to automate.
Power, batteries and charging
Unitree lists approximately two hours of G1 battery life. That is a manufacturer specification, not an independent test and not a promise of two hours on every task. Walking, lifting, speed, payload, temperature and repeated acceleration can shorten runtime. Ask for measured energy consumption under your planned workload, charge time, battery cycle life, spare-battery pricing and charging-equipment requirements.
Budget for enough batteries and charging capacity to cover the full shift you need. A robot that runs for two hours but spends significant time charging may require additional packs or a second unit to maintain useful availability.

Maintenance, parts and downtime
Request the warranty document for the exact configuration. Unitree lists an eight-month period for one G1 configuration and 18 months for another, so the model name alone does not establish your coverage. Ask what labor, batteries, actuators, sensors and shipping are covered, where repairs occur, and what happens when a part is back-ordered.
Maintenance cost is not just the price of a replacement component. Include technician labor, diagnostic tools, return freight, software reinstallation and the value of lost production while the robot is unavailable. Obtain an expected repair turnaround and a recommended spare-parts list before signing.
Software and computing
Determine whether autonomy software is included permanently, licensed annually or tied to a subscription. Some deployments need a separate workstation or graphics processor for perception, simulation, data processing or model training. Ask about paid updates, cloud or data fees, application-programming interfaces, cybersecurity support and whether you can continue operating if a subscription ends.

A general-purpose humanoid still needs to learn your environment. Cost can include mapping workspaces, programming task sequences, connecting to warehouse or factory systems, creating fixtures, labeling data, validating edge cases and adapting the robot to changing layouts. Obtain a statement of which tasks have already been demonstrated on the quoted hardware and which require new engineering.

Human supervision and safety
Plan for setup, remote operation, exception handling, training and routine supervision unless the contract explicitly provides a different level of autonomy. A demonstration may be teleoperated or closely supervised even when the product is marketed as autonomous.
At an April 2025 robotics event, the Associated Press reported that a Unitree G1 demonstration was remotely controlled by an employee. That bounded report does not describe every G1 deployment, but it illustrates why buyers should ask whether a claimed capability is autonomous, teleoperated or a mixture of both.
Safety work may include risk assessment, physical barriers, emergency-stop design, operating procedures, worker training, insurance and compliance reviews. Unitree’s product page warns: “Currently, the global humanoid robot industry is in the early stages of exploration. Individual users are strongly advised to thoroughly understand the limitations of humanoid robots before making a purchase.” It also cautions that the robot has a complex structure and powerful force and should be used with a sufficient safe distance from people.

- Start with delivered hardware: Add the selected robot, options, freight, insurance, taxes, duties, installation and commissioning.
- Add the operating setup: Include batteries, chargers, electrical work, networking, computers, safety equipment and any facility changes.
- Price the people: Estimate engineering, programming, training, supervision, remote intervention and safety assessment hours.
- Price recurring services: Include software, cloud usage, support, preventive maintenance and inspection contracts.
- Model downtime: Estimate lost operating hours during charging, maintenance, software updates and failures. Include a spare robot or battery fleet if uptime is critical.
- Separate pilot from production: A short research trial may need intensive engineering but little production support; a production deployment may require service-level commitments and local technicians.
A secondary 2026 guide estimates first-year total cost at roughly two to three times hardware price when support, safety, compute and integration are included. Use that only as a planning range for a specific deployment. It is not validated as a market-wide statistic, and it should not be presented as the expected bill for every robot.
How to compare purchase, subscription and robots-as-a-service
| Commercial model | What you pay for | Questions to ask |
|---|---|---|
| Outright purchase | Hardware, with services and software priced separately or bundled | Who owns failures, updates, batteries, repairs and residual value? |
| Lease or subscription | Recurring payment for access to equipment and possibly software | Is there a minimum term, usage limit, installation fee, deposit or end-of-term purchase option? |
| Robots-as-a-service | Access to a robot and an operating service, often with maintenance or remote support | What uptime, human intervention, task scope, insurance and response time are guaranteed? |
| Enterprise pilot | Custom project priced around a site, task and deployment plan | Which deliverables are one-time, which recur, and who owns integration work and collected data? |
Do not compare a monthly subscription directly with a hardware sticker price. Convert each offer into the same period and scope: delivered equipment, usable hours, included labor, software rights, maintenance, uptime and termination obligations.

- What exact model, firmware, sensors, hands, batteries and compute are included?
- Is the price valid in your country, and does it include tax, shipping, import charges and commissioning?
- What task performance is demonstrated without teleoperation, and what human intervention is expected?
- What runtime, payload and cycle-time measurements apply to your task rather than a best-case specification?
- What are the warranty duration, exclusions, repair location, parts lead time and service response?
- Are software updates, autonomy features, cloud use, APIs and technical support included or billed separately?
- What training, safety documentation, risk assessment and insurance responsibilities fall on the buyer?
- What happens if the robot is unavailable, the subscription ends or the supplier discontinues a component?
Common budgeting mistakes
Treating every listed price as retail availability
Some robots are not openly sold. Others require a sales discussion, an enterprise pilot or a service contract. A target price for a future product is not evidence that a buyer can order one today.

Ignoring configuration differences
Two units with the same model name can have different hands, batteries, software, warranty terms or computing packages. Compare complete bills of material, not model names.

Assuming demonstration autonomy
Ask who controlled the robot, what was pre-scripted, how many interventions occurred and whether the environment was modified for the demonstration.
Using a generic annual-cost multiplier as a promise
The two-to-three-times first-year estimate can help identify missing categories, but your duty cycle, labor rates, import rules and support arrangement determine the actual result.
Bottom line for buyers
Publicly listed humanoid hardware currently spans roughly US$4,900 for a listed entry model to US$100,000 for a higher-end listing, with the Unitree G1 base at US$13,500 before tax and shipping. Those figures describe hardware offers with different configurations and availability. The dependable way to price ownership is to obtain a task-specific, country-specific quote that itemizes delivery, power, batteries, maintenance, software, computing, integration, supervision, safety and downtime. Until vendors publish comparable operating data, any annual total should be treated as a deployment estimate rather than a standard market price.
