How to Fish is a video game, not a real-world fishing guide. Its main story route is commonly described as Lighthouse → Forest → Desert → Rocks → Volcano, with boss encounters and quests serving as progression gates. That five-location route is not a complete list of all current island content: the September 2026 Islet Update added multiple mini islands.
How many islands are in How to Fish?
There are five commonly named locations on the main story route: Lighthouse, Forest, Desert, Rocks, and Volcano. These names and their order come from community walkthroughs; Steam’s official description confirms that quests and boss fights lead players to new islands, but it does not publish this named route. Steam’s game listing describes the game as a 1–4 player fishing simulator built around catching and selling fish, earning equipment, completing quests, and fighting bosses.
Do not treat five as the total number of islands in the current game. Dazed Games’ Islet Update 1.1.0, published September 28, 2026, added multiple mini islands alongside creatures, a mini-boss, items, bait, an NPC, achievements, and an outfit. Official update material also refers to island 6, but does not give a canonical list of all mini-island names or coordinates. The official update announcement establishes the added content without providing a complete map.

The route below reflects community walkthroughs rather than an official developer-published sequence. Treat the encounters as the commonly described progression path; updates can alter details.

Continue through the Volcano endgame
Community guides describe a late-game sequence involving the Goblin Shark, Bowhead Whale, and Mutated Bowhead Whale. They do not establish a developer-confirmed step-by-step order beyond that sequence.
These island and boss details are reported by community walkthroughs, including the How to Fish Wiki and How to Fish Fans’ island guide. Steam confirms the general quest-and-boss progression concept, not the named encounters or items.

What changed in the island route after launch?
- August 22, 2026 — Patch 1.0.5: Dazed Games fixed a bug that had allowed players to travel to any island without unlocking it. Bypass advice based on that bug may no longer work. Official patch announcements

Why an island may still be inaccessible
- The route gate is unfinished: Progression is tied to quests and boss fights, so continue the relevant encounter instead of expecting every island to be immediately selectable.
- You are following an old bypass tip: Patch 1.0.5 fixed travel to islands that had not been unlocked.
- You are looking for a mini island by name or coordinates: The official Islet Update announcement confirms mini islands but does not provide a canonical complete name-and-coordinate list. Community route labels should not be mistaken for an official map.
