Taking your Valor Mortis character from level 1 to the level-400 cap costs 165,974,460 Catalysts. Level 400 alone costs 1,696,004 Catalysts. Those figures are from the PC launch build identified as Steam build 25907482 and datamined on October 13, 2026.
“Full upgrade” can also mean equipment. A maxed melee weapon costs 45,000 Catalysts, a maxed firearm costs 45,000, and a maxed transmutation costs 28,000. Each equipment category also requires a final Legendary material, so Catalysts are only part of the total requirement.
What counts as a full upgrade?
Valor Mortis has several independent upgrade tracks. Character levels, weapons, firearms, transmutations, Amber slots and Flask power do not share one universal cost. Decide which track you mean before calculating how many Catalysts to save.

The 165,974,460 figure is therefore the answer to the character-level interpretation of “full upgrade.” It does not include every weapon in your inventory, multiple transmutations, Legendary materials or Flask materials.

Character level 1 to 400: the complete Catalyst curve
Level 400 is the character cap in the launch data. The level table distinguishes between the price of the next level and the cumulative amount paid from the starting level. Those numbers are easy to confuse: a level can have a large individual price while the cumulative total includes every earlier purchase.

For orientation, level 2 costs 400 Catalysts. By level 10, the individual price is already 2,566, and by level 100 it is 85,707. The final level is almost twenty times the level-100 individual price, which is why a late-game stockpile is more useful than simply matching the cost of the next purchase.
How the level prices increase
The progression uses percentage growth bands rather than one constant multiplier. Each band applies to the level prices in that range:

The final 1% band can look harmless when viewed one level at a time. It is not harmless in aggregate: it covers three-quarters of the level range and starts from a much higher base. This is why the jump from the level-100 cumulative total to the level-400 total is so large.
How to use the table when budgeting
- Choose a target level. Use the cumulative column, not the price of the next level, when estimating the total Catalysts needed to reach that target.
- Subtract your current spend. If you are already partway through the curve, the remaining requirement is the target cumulative total minus the cumulative amount already paid.
- Keep a separate endgame reserve. The final levels consume far more per purchase than early levels, so spending the entire balance on equipment can delay your character cap.
- Recheck after patches. The figures are a snapshot of the launch build, not a guarantee that a later balance update will preserve the same curve.
Weapon, firearm and transmutation costs
Equipment uses a much smaller Catalyst budget than the level-1-to-400 character track, but it introduces a different bottleneck: the final Legendary material cannot be bought from merchants.

These are per-item totals. Maxing two melee weapons doubles the melee Catalyst amount; it does not unlock every other weapon automatically. The same applies to firearms and transmutations. The cited equipment table does not establish a different price for individual weapon types, so the 45,000 figure should not be extended to unlisted variants without checking the current in-game display.

Legendary materials and environmental pickups
The final upgrade step in each equipment category needs a Legendary material that merchants do not sell. You must locate it in the world. A separate item guide reports nine maximum-level upgrade materials, with the relevant materials appearing as environmental or chest pickups rather than enemy drops. Consequently, farming ordinary enemies can supply Catalysts but cannot replace exploration for the final equipment step.
Plan the material route before spending the last Catalysts. Reaching the required Catalyst total while missing the Legendary component leaves the item short of maximum level, and the material requirement is independent for each category.
Amber slots: an early character milestone
All five Amber slots are available by level 9. They unlock at levels 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9. Reaching level 9 costs 7,707 Catalysts cumulatively from the level-1 starting state.

This creates a practical choice for a new character. If your immediate goal is build flexibility, level 9 provides the complete Amber-slot layout for a small fraction of the level-400 budget. It is not a substitute for the later character levels: the slot unlocks stop at level 9 while the Catalyst curve continues to level 400.

What a complete upgrade plan costs in practice
Use separate ledgers for the four resources and scopes involved:
- Character Catalysts: reserve toward the cumulative level target you actually want, with level 400 requiring the full cap budget.
- Equipment Catalysts: add 45,000 for each melee weapon, 45,000 for each firearm and 28,000 for each transmutation you intend to max.
- Legendary materials: count one for every equipment category item that reaches its final level, and route through environmental and chest locations because merchants do not stock them.
- Flask materials: collect 24 Ferrofluid Flask Power Upgrade materials for all 10 Flask power levels; track flask count independently.
For example, maxing the character and one melee weapon, one firearm and one transmutation requires 166,092,460 Catalysts before any Legendary or Flask materials are counted. That arithmetic assumes exactly one item in each equipment category; additional items add their own per-item totals.
Common Catalyst-planning mistakes
- Confusing a level price with the full cost: the price shown beside level 400 is the cost of that single level, while the cumulative level-1-to-400 requirement includes every earlier level.
- Calling one maxed weapon a character upgrade: equipment totals are independent of the character-level curve.
- Ignoring the final material: having enough Catalysts does not bypass the Legendary-material requirement.
- Farming only enemies: the cited maximum-level materials are environmental or chest pickups, so exploration is necessary.
- Assuming Flask power follows character levels: the 10-level Flask track consumes Ferrofluid materials and is not represented by the Catalyst level table.
- Planning from launch numbers indefinitely: the data comes from the PC launch build and can change if a patch alters prices, level caps or material placement.
How current are these figures?
The level figures come from MetaBot’s table for the PC launch build of Valor Mortis, identified as Steam build 25907482 and dated October 13, 2026. The equipment and Amber figures are likewise launch-era values, while the maximum-level material count is reported separately by PowerPyx. No developer statement in the cited material confirms that these values are permanent.
