League of Legends charity skins do not all follow one permanent donation rule. Riot Games designates specific skins, chromas, bundles, wards, or emotes for a campaign, publishes the eligible items and dates, and then sends the announced proceeds to the Riot Games Social Impact Fund. The fund is a donor-advised philanthropic fund sponsored by ImpactAssets; it distributes grants to nonprofit and disaster-relief organizations.
Some campaigns have sent 100% of proceeds. Others have added a three-times match or used a regional-pool formula with player voting. Those terms apply only to the named items during the stated campaign window, so a normal League skin purchase should not be assumed to support charity.
Where the money goes
The usual path has three distinct parties:
- A player buys an eligible digital item. The campaign announcement identifies exactly which skin or accessory qualifies and when it is available.
- Riot routes the announced proceeds to the Riot Games Social Impact Fund. Riot described the fund in its 2020 fundraiser details as “a nonprofit philanthropic fund, which is a separate entity from Riot Games the game developer and publisher.”
- The fund makes grants. Depending on the campaign, grants can support pandemic relief, regional nonprofit partners, or organizations responding to natural disasters.
ImpactAssets sponsors the Social Impact Fund as a donor-advised fund account. That structure separates the charitable fund’s grantmaking role from Riot’s role as the game developer and publisher. It also means that a campaign announcement can name the Social Impact Fund as the immediate beneficiary while the eventual recipients are local or issue-specific nonprofit organizations.
Riot’s wording is important: the company generally promises a share of proceeds, not a percentage of gross revenue or profit. Taxes, platform arrangements, payment processing, regional pricing, and other accounting details are not established by the campaign summaries here, so “100% of proceeds” should not be rewritten as “100% of the purchase price.”
Why one charity skin can have different terms from another
Riot runs these efforts as separate, time-limited fundraisers. A campaign can change along four axes:
#1 Best Overall
- Powerful Turbo Fan:CAGIWIRU Electric Air Duster have reached speed up to 130000RPM,Can efficient remove dust and debris. With LED light and Three Adjustable Speed to meet with different cleaning tasks.

- Donation share: 100% of proceeds, proceeds plus a match, or a stated allocation formula.
- Eligible items: one skin, several skins, chromas, borders, icons, emotes, wards, or a bundle.
- Beneficiary scope: a global relief effort, a regional nonprofit pool, or disaster-recovery organizations.
- Allocation method: direct routing to the Social Impact Fund or a later distribution shaped by regional sales and player votes.
Consequently, there is no universal “charity percentage” for League skins. A skin that was charitable during one event does not make every other skin, or even every accessory in the same thematic line, charitable outside the listed terms.
Campaigns and what each one promised
| Campaign | Dates or reporting period | Eligible items and donation terms | Where grants were directed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dawnbringer Karma | 2019 fundraiser; results reported by Riot in 2020 | Riot reported $6 million raised. The allocation used regional charity pools based largely on proportional Dawnbringer Karma sales. | 46 nonprofit partners selected with GlobalGiving. Players voted among three regional organizations; the winner received 50% of its regional pool and the other two 25% each, with a $10,000 minimum grant for every nonprofit. |
| Elderwood Ornn | 2020 fundraiser; result reported in 2021 | Riot reported that players raised more than $7 million for the Social Impact Fund. | Riot said the result exceeded Dawnbringer Karma’s $6 million total; the published summary does not state a separate voting formula. |
| COVID-19 fundraiser | June 25–July 23, 2020 | Nurse Akali, Kennen M.D., Surgeon Shen, related chromas, borders, icons, an emote, and a Megadonor bundle. Riot stated that 100% of proceeds from these items went to the Social Impact Fund. | Pandemic relief for frontline workers and affected families. Eligible products carried a “Social Impact” badge. |
| LoL Player Days | October 9–28, 2024 | Cosplayer Neeko, Music Fan Gragas, Esports Fan Trundle, and Gamer Fan Poro Ward. Riot announced 100% of proceeds plus a three-times match. | The Social Impact Fund, sponsored by ImpactAssets. |
| Southern California wildfire relief | January 23–February 5, 2025 | Firefighter Tristana. Riot announced that proceeds would go to the Social Impact Fund. | Organizations helping natural-disaster recovery in Southern California and around the world. |
The dates in this table are campaign windows or result-reporting dates, not a promise that the items remain available. Riot can retire the fundraising designation when a window ends.

How the major fundraisers worked
Dawnbringer Karma: regional pools and player voting
The Dawnbringer Karma fundraiser illustrates why a single donation percentage cannot describe every event. Riot reported in 2020 that players collectively raised $6 million through the 2019 campaign. Riot and GlobalGiving selected 46 nonprofit partners, while most of the money was organized into regional charity pools. Each pool was based on the proportion of Dawnbringer Karma sales associated with that region.

Players then voted among three nonprofits in their region. The organization receiving the most votes got 50% of that regional pool; the other two received 25% each. Riot also guaranteed at least $10,000 for every nonprofit. The result was a campaign in which the item sale created the pool, regional purchasing affected its size, and player voting affected the split inside the pool.
Elderwood Ornn: a larger reported total
For the 2020 Elderwood Ornn fundraiser, Riot’s 2021 results headline said: “You raised more than $7 million for the Riot Games Social Impact Fund with Elderwood Ornn.” Riot specifically noted that this exceeded the $6 million raised by Dawnbringer Karma. The published result establishes the total reported by Riot, but it does not establish a Dawnbringer-style regional voting formula for Elderwood Ornn.
COVID-19 fundraiser: a defined item list and 100% of proceeds
From June 25 through July 23, 2020, Riot designated Nurse Akali, Kennen M.D., and Surgeon Shen, along with related chromas, borders, icons, an emote, and a Megadonor bundle. The announcement said 100% of proceeds from those items would go to the Social Impact Fund. A “Social Impact” badge marked the fundraiser products in the game.

The fund was intended to support pandemic relief for frontline workers and families affected by COVID-19. Riot’s announcement also provided the clearest description of the money flow: “During this time, we’ll be donating 100% of proceeds from Nurse Akali, Kennen M.D., and Surgeon Shen—and other related items—to the Riot Games Social Impact Fund at ImpactAssets, our charitable financial partner.”
LoL Player Days: proceeds plus a three-times match
During LoL Player Days, October 9–28, 2024, Riot named four items: Cosplayer Neeko, Music Fan Gragas, Esports Fan Trundle, and the Gamer Fan Poro Ward. Riot stated that for every purchase in the window it would contribute 100% of proceeds, as well as a three-times match, to the Social Impact Fund, a donor-advised fund account sponsored by ImpactAssets.
The announcement does not provide a cap, a per-item dollar amount, or a conversion formula for the match. The safe interpretation is the published one: the eligible proceeds were included and Riot added the announced three-times matching contribution. It should not be converted into an unsupported claim about a fixed percentage of the retail price.
Firefighter Tristana: disaster-recovery grants
For the January 23–February 5, 2025 fundraiser, Riot designated Firefighter Tristana. Riot said the proceeds would go to the Social Impact Fund, which would direct money to organizations aiding natural-disaster recovery in Southern California and elsewhere in the world. The announcement identifies the disaster-relief purpose and campaign dates; it does not establish a universal donation rate for other Tristana skins or for purchases made outside that window.

What “100% of proceeds” does and does not tell you
When Riot writes that 100% of proceeds go to the Social Impact Fund, it is making a campaign-specific commitment about the proceeds from the named items. It is not saying that every League purchase is charitable, that every skin in the same collection qualifies, or that the entire amount a player pays is necessarily transferred as a grant.
The same caution applies to a three-times match. A match increases Riot’s contribution under that campaign’s terms, but the available announcement does not state a cap or define the accounting treatment in a way that supports an exact per-purchase calculation. Readers should use the campaign’s own item list, dates, and wording rather than applying a rule from an older event.
How to check whether a purchase is part of a fundraiser
- Read the current Riot announcement. Confirm the campaign name, start and end dates, and the beneficiary.
- Check the complete eligible-item list. Look for the exact skin, chroma, ward, emote, icon, border, or bundle. A related cosmetic is not automatically included.
- Look for an in-client designation. The COVID-19 event used a “Social Impact” badge, but a badge or label is meaningful only when it matches the current campaign’s published terms.
- Identify the donation language. Note whether Riot promises 100% of proceeds, a match, or a pool and voting formula.
- Check the date and region. Availability and pricing can vary by region, and a purchase after the closing date should not be treated as part of the fundraiser without a new announcement.
How nonprofits receive the benefit
The Social Impact Fund is the financial conduit; the final beneficiaries depend on the campaign. In the Dawnbringer Karma event, GlobalGiving helped select 46 nonprofit partners and the grants were divided through regional pools and voting. In the COVID-19 event, the stated purpose was relief for frontline workers and affected families. Firefighter Tristana’s proceeds were earmarked for organizations working on natural-disaster recovery. These are different grantmaking outcomes even though the Social Impact Fund appears in each pathway.

Riot has also reported charitable activity outside skin sales. A 48-hour Mid-Season Streamathon raised more than $630,000 for COVID-19 relief in 2020, and Riot said it had donated an additional $4.5 million in pandemic relief by the time of its June 2020 announcement. Those figures provide context for Riot’s broader giving, but they are not amounts that can be attributed to a particular charity skin purchase.
Common mistakes when evaluating a charity skin
- Assuming all skins are charitable: only the named products in the named window qualify.
- Using one campaign’s percentage for another: Dawnbringer Karma’s regional formula, the COVID-19 event’s 100% promise, and LoL Player Days’ match are separate mechanisms.
- Confusing Riot with the fund: Riot develops and publishes the game; the Social Impact Fund is described as a separate nonprofit philanthropic fund sponsored by ImpactAssets.
- Calling the donation a share of the sticker price: Riot’s published term is “proceeds,” unless a campaign says something more specific.
- Treating a result headline as a standing promise: “More than $7 million” for Elderwood Ornn is a reported campaign result, not a guaranteed amount for future events.
- Ignoring the closing date: time-limited availability is part of the charitable terms.
What a responsible conclusion looks like
League charity skins can produce substantial nonprofit funding: Riot reported $6 million from Dawnbringer Karma and more than $7 million from Elderwood Ornn, while later campaigns targeted pandemic relief and disaster recovery through the Social Impact Fund. The evidence supports calling those specific events charitable fundraisers. It does not support claiming that every League skin purchase helps a nonprofit or that one donation percentage applies forever.
For any new event, the reliable answer is found in Riot’s campaign notice: identify the exact items, read the proceeds or matching language, note the dates, and follow the named beneficiary. That approach distinguishes a documented charitable purchase from an ordinary cosmetic transaction.
