A Jio Platforms IPO could make the value of Reliance’s digital business easier to see and, if proceeds repay borrowings as planned, improve its financial flexibility. It would not guarantee a higher valuation, a Reliance Industries share-price gain, or direct funding for each announced growth project. Valuation estimates remain unconfirmed, while Jio’s investment choices will depend on its cash generation, debt position and execution in areas such as 5G, broadband, AI and cloud.
What is known about Jio’s IPO and valuation?
CRISIL Ratings said Jio Platforms filed a draft red herring prospectus with SEBI in June 2026 and expected the IPO in the current fiscal year. In coverage available as of October 11, 2026, the final offer price, price band, listing date and realized market capitalization were not established. The figures being discussed are estimates, not confirmed offer terms.
| Reported figure | Source and what it represents |
|---|---|
| About ₹360 billion (about $3.81 billion), or approximately 2.9% of post-issue equity; implied valuation of roughly $131 billion | Reuters reported on June 19, 2026, citing people familiar with the matter. Reuters also said the prospectus did not state the fundraising target and that final details could change. |
| Nearly ₹9.5 trillion | Business Standard’s estimate based on its analysis of the draft filing; not a confirmed offer valuation. |
| $120–150 billion | Brokerage estimates from Morgan Stanley and Jefferies, as reported by The Financial Express; not final offer terms. |
The estimates differ because they rely on different assumptions and methods. A reported implied value should not be mistaken for the price investors will pay when the offer is finalized or the market begins trading the shares.

How could the IPO affect Jio’s balance sheet and funding capacity?
Debt repayment is the clearest stated use of fresh proceeds
CRISIL reported that ₹27,500 crore of the fresh issue is intended for prepayment of borrowings. Offer coverage also mentions general corporate purposes. Reuters quoted the prospectus as saying repayment would improve Jio’s ability to raise resources for potential business-development opportunities and position the company to continue investing in strategic priorities. That supports a case for improved funding flexibility; it does not establish that IPO proceeds will directly pay for each named expansion project.
#1 Best Overall
Jio’s debt position had already improved
CRISIL reported consolidated net debt of ₹1,64,814 crore at FY26 year-end and net leverage of 2.23 times, down from 2.86 times at FY25 year-end. It said improved cash flow had funded capital expenditure through internal accruals, without reliance on external debt. A debt prepayment could further ease financing pressure, but its effect on leverage will depend on the final proceeds, the amount actually used for repayment and Jio’s financial position at the time.
CRISIL expects capital-expenditure intensity to moderate over the medium term now that mass 5G networks have been established. It also expects continued spending to strengthen the network, so moderation does not mean investment will stop.

What could support or constrain Jio’s valuation?
Subscriber growth and higher spending per user support the operating case
For the quarter ended June 30, 2026, Reliance Industries’ investor reporting recorded 533 million Jio connectivity subscribers, including 285 million 5G users. It reported quarterly revenue of ₹39,173 crore and EBITDA of ₹20,865 crore. These are company-reported results for that period, not independent forecasts.
CRISIL reported monthly average revenue per user (ARPU) of ₹214 at FY26 year-end, up from ₹206 at FY25 year-end, and ₹215.6 in Q1 FY27. It attributed the increase largely to subscribers upgrading plans as data consumption rose. Reliance’s investor update also reported 20% year-over-year growth in digital services for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, from a smaller base. These figures indicate growth in the existing business, but they do not by themselves establish how quickly newer services will become material sources of profit.
Peer comparisons depend on the method
The Financial Express reported that Bharti Airtel traded at 42.27 times P/E using its closing price on June 17, 2026. It also described an illustrative Jio share value obtained by applying that multiple to Jio’s FY26 diluted earnings per share. This is a scenario, not a settled fair value: the result depends on whether Airtel is an appropriate peer, the earnings definitions and share counts used, expected growth, capital intensity and the final IPO terms. A multiple borrowed from a telecom operator may not capture the different risks and potential of Jio’s digital-services business.
Execution and spending could weigh on the outcome
Investors will also have to consider competition, regulation, rapid technology change and the cost of network and spectrum investment. CRISIL identifies higher-than-expected network or spectrum costs and significant debt-funded acquisitions as rating sensitivities. Business Standard’s analysis of the draft prospectus reports that Jio also identifies technology obsolescence and satellite connectivity as risks that may require adaptation or investment. Growth in AI and cloud could add to the opportunity, but successful monetization is not assured.

5G and fixed broadband
The stated priorities include 5G network densification and expansion, alongside deeper fixed-broadband penetration. More network capacity and coverage can support connectivity demand, while fixed broadband and AirFiber expansion can widen the addressable customer base. The IPO material supports these as strategic priorities, but does not establish that a specific portion of the proceeds is reserved for each one.
AI, cloud and digital services
AI and cloud services are also named priorities. Their investment needs and returns may develop over a longer period than routine telecom network spending. Jio’s reported digital-services growth provides context for its broader technology ambitions, but the reported 20% growth came from a smaller base and should not be read as proof of future AI or cloud revenue at scale.
Jio’s plans are not the same as Reliance-wide capital spending
At its June 2026 AGM, Reliance reported ₹1.44 trillion of FY26 group capital expenditure and described a planned first phase of 120 MW of AI infrastructure in Jamnagar, expected by the end of 2026. That capex figure covers Reliance Industries’ group, not Jio alone, and the available reporting does not establish that Jio’s IPO will fund the Jamnagar project. Jio’s stated priorities include expanding JioTrue5G, scaling AirFiber, digitizing small businesses, broadening AI access and taking its technology stack to global markets; these should be distinguished from the parent company’s wider investment plans.
What an IPO would—and would not—change for investors
A separate listing would give the market a more direct, visible price for Jio Platforms than its value as one part of Reliance Industries. That price could help investors assess the digital business independently and compare it with other listed companies. It would not mechanically increase Jio’s underlying value or ensure that Reliance Industries’ shares rise. The Financial Express reported that Reliance would remain Jio’s promoter after the offer.
The valuation will ultimately reflect the offer terms and investors’ assessment of earnings growth, cash generation, investment requirements and execution. For now, the reported valuation figures are estimates, the planned use of fresh proceeds points first to borrowing prepayment, and future investment remains a matter of strategic priorities rather than guaranteed IPO-funded projects.
