Epic’s official Fortnite Power Ranking (PR) is an Elo-style rating, not a running total of tournament points. Epic says it weighs a player’s performance against opponents, adjusts for event importance and result age, counts the player’s best 20 tournament results, and adds bonuses for Battle Royale Ranked and Reload Ranked rank. The public guide explains those steps, but does not publish enough of the formula to calculate an exact PR from a finish alone.
What does Epic’s official PR measure?
Epic describes Power Rankings as an Elo-style rating of a player’s best tournament performances. It is updated weekly and is intended as a competitive skill rating, rather than a tally that rises by a fixed amount every time someone plays. Epic may use PR for tournament eligibility or perks, but requirements depend on each event’s current rules.

Keep Epic’s rating separate from third-party leaderboards. For example, Fortnite Tracker’s event pages use “PR points” and seasonal placement totals; those are not the same calculation as Epic’s official rating. When citing a score or leaderboard position, identify which system it comes from.
How does Epic calculate tournament performance?
Epic’s guide describes six stages. The exact internal equation is not public, so the examples below explain the logic rather than provide a way to reproduce an individual score.
#1 Best Overall
- Redeemable on accounts in the United States and in U.S. Dollars.
- Gift card must be redeemed at EpicGames.com/redeem. This gift card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly on a console device (PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, etc.)
- If you play Fortnite experiences on a console device, you need to link your Epic Games account to your console account(s) so items purchased at Fortnite.com/item-shop appear across all of your linked accounts
- Requires internet connection, valid Epic account and prior acceptance of the terms
- Redemption: Online
1. Rate the result against the field
A tournament performance rating reflects how a player places relative to the other competitors and the ratings of those opponents. In Epic’s simplified illustration for a 1,000-duo event, assuming most players are rated around 20,000, 100th place corresponds to a raw rating of 23,000, 500th to approximately 20,000, and 900th to 17,000. These are illustrative values, not a universal placement-to-PR chart. Epic says its actual multiplayer Elo calculation weighs a player separately against each opponent and that opponent’s rating.
As a result, the same finish can produce different ratings in different fields. A high placement is not automatically the most valuable performance if the opponent ratings or other factors differ.
Rank #2
- Redeemable on accounts in the United States and in U.S. Dollars.
- Gift card must be redeemed at EpicGames.com/redeem. This gift card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly on a console device (PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, etc.)
- If you play Fortnite experiences on a console device, you need to link your Epic Games account to your console account(s) so items purchased at Fortnite.com/item-shop appear across all of your linked accounts

2. Apply the event multiplier
Epic multiplies the raw performance rating by a weight based on the event. The official guide lists these weights; event names and formats may change, so check the guide for the current season.

| Weight | Events listed by Epic |
|---|---|
| ×0.8 | Shop Cups, Ranked Cups, OG Cups |
| ×1.0 | Cash Cups, Victory Cups, Div Cups, Solo Series Qualifiers, PS Cup, RES Opens/PI/Heats |
| ×1.2 | Div Cup Finals, RES Qualifier Finals, FNCS Heats, Solo Series Final |
| ×1.4 | FNCS Major Finals, RES Champs, Summit Upper/Lower Bracket |
| ×1.6 | Summit Final, Global Champs |
3. Reduce older results over time
Epic’s guide says a performance rating is retained at 100% for 0–180 days, decay begins at 180 days, and the rating reaches zero at 720 days. These are the guide’s stated timing points; it does not provide enough detail to infer a precise decay curve for every day between them.
Rank #3
- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.

4. Keep only the best 20 results
Only a player’s top 20 tournament performance ratings count toward this part of PR. A new result replaces a counted result only if its rating is higher. Playing more events does not automatically add PR: a result below the current top-20 cutoff has no effect on the score.
5. Combine counted results Elo-style
Epic combines the results over time using an Elo-style approach. New results can increase PR, while decay in older results can reduce it. The public guide does not disclose a complete equation or all implementation details, so an exact score cannot be calculated from placement, event weight, and result age alone.
Rank #4
- Redeemable on accounts in the United States and in U.S. Dollars.
- Gift card must be redeemed at EpicGames.com/redeem. This gift card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly on a console device (PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, etc.)
- If you play Fortnite experiences on a console device, you need to link your Epic Games account to your console account(s) so items purchased at Fortnite.com/item-shop appear across all of your linked accounts
- Requires internet connection, valid Epic account and prior acceptance of the terms
- Redemption: Online
6. Add Ranked bonuses
Epic says both Battle Royale Ranked and Reload Ranked contribute a rank-based bonus, with the bonus from each mode added on. Its displayed table ranges from 0 at Bronze 1 to 1,000 at Unreal. Examples from that table include Elite 1 at 400, Champion 1 at 600, and Unreal at 1,000. These values are the guide’s displayed examples and should be checked against its current table.
Why might PR rise, fall, or stay the same?
- It rises: A new tournament result may improve the counted ratings, or a Ranked bonus may increase as rank changes.
- It falls: Older tournament results may decay, reducing their contribution.
- It does not change: A new result may not exceed the existing top-20 cutoff, or other changes may not be large enough to alter the displayed rating.
To compare two tournament performances, look at the relative finish and opponent ratings, event multiplier, result age, and whether the result is among the player’s best 20. For an overall PR comparison, also identify the region and whether Ranked bonuses are included.

Where can you check the rules and current ranking?
Epic’s Power Rankings guide explains the rating stages, event weights, decay schedule, and Ranked bonuses. Epic’s support article describes PR as a universal skill rating for Competitive Fortnite. The official leaderboard shows standings that can change with weekly updates; check the applicable region and event rules rather than relying on a remembered position or eligibility threshold.
