Gupta said Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar prompted him to think more deeply about space, time and the universe. The film helped fuel his curiosity, but it was not the only starting point: the profile also describes his participation in junior science and astronomy Olympiads around Class 9 as part of how his interest developed.

How did he prepare for the Olympiad?
Self-study and training
In the October 2026 interview, Gupta said he began preparing for astronomy Olympiads around Class 9. He described typically spending about four to five hours on self-study, with the time varying according to his other commitments. That is his personal routine, not a general requirement for Olympiad candidates.
Moneycontrol also reported that he used PhysicsWallah’s Vidyapeeth program in 2026. The interview does not establish that this program alone accounts for his result.

What he changed after the 2025 competition
Gupta said he tried easier questions first and paid closer attention to managing his time after reflecting on mistakes from the previous year. As he put it: “I was more aware of the mistakes I had made last year, so I tried to be more careful, especially with time management.”

Winning gold did not mean every part of the competition went smoothly. Gupta recalled that during the telescope round in Hanoi, he could not locate the correct target. That moment offers a more complete picture of the result: a strong overall performance can include a difficult round.

As of Moneycontrol’s October 9, 2026, interview, Gupta was considering physics and possibly research, but had not decided on a career direction. He said: “I think it’s important to first understand what you genuinely enjoy before choosing a particular field.”
