Hytale chapters are larger Exploration Mode content releases that advance the Cursebreaker Arc; updates are smaller in role, bringing systems, tools, and polish between those releases. Before version 1.0, Chapter 1 content was arriving in waves in the Update 7 pre-release build, and Hytale had not confirmed a firm full-release date in the official notes available through October 1, 2026.
How chapters differ from updates
Hytale uses “updates” and “chapters” for different kinds of progress. Updates improve the game’s systems and tools and add polish, while chapters are intended as larger content drops for Exploration Mode. Chapters also move the Cursebreaker Arc forward, so their role is both gameplay-focused and narrative: they bring new content and mechanics while gradually introducing the arc’s lore.
Hytale made that distinction explicit in its Update 5 notes, published May 26, 2026: “each Update brings system improvements, tooling, and polish that keep the game evolving between bigger releases.” The notes describe chapters as “the bigger moments” with new content and mechanics, where “the Cursebreaker Arc lore slowly kicks in.” That description is the clearest guide to what the labels mean; it does not promise a fixed release cadence or a particular size for every chapter.
| Aspect | Updates | Chapters |
|---|---|---|
| Primary role | System improvements, tools, and polish between larger releases | Larger Exploration Mode content drops |
| Story role | Not described in the cited Update 5 passage as the main vehicle for the Cursebreaker Arc | Advance the Cursebreaker Arc and introduce its lore over time |
| Progression shown in the Chapter 1 preview | Not stated | Objectives and a planned chapter screen at the Forgotten Temple |
The table reflects the distinction Hytale published, not a guarantee that updates will never include story content or that every chapter will use identical mechanics. In practical terms, players should not expect every numbered update to represent a new story chapter. Updates can keep the underlying game moving forward between those larger content moments, while a chapter is meant to give Exploration Mode a more substantial progression step.

What chapters are meant to do in Exploration Mode
Chapter 1’s announced progression centers on the Forgotten Temple. Hytale describes the temple as a hub that will evolve as chapters are released. A planned chapter screen is intended to work like a roadmap: it will show progress through objectives and connect that progress to cosmetic unlocks. Game Director Simon described the aim as making the screen “feel like a roadmap for your progress through Early Access” in First Look: Chapter 1 and More, published July 16, 2026.
That gives players a useful mental model: a chapter is not simply a patch number. It is a larger progression unit in Exploration Mode, with objectives organized around a hub and story progression tied to the Cursebreaker Arc. The preview does not specify a complete objective list, the number of chapters planned, the exact rewards, or how frequently chapters will arrive, so those details should not be assumed.

The distinction between what is planned and what is already present matters here. The July preview presents the temple’s evolving role and chapter screen as the intended framework, while the September Update 7 notes identify the temple as the place where players can begin engaging with Chapter 1 content in pre-release. Those notes do not establish that every planned screen, objective, cosmetic, or chapter feature was finished in that build. A visit to the temple is an entry point into the available pre-release content, not proof that the final progression system is complete.
Chapter 1 status and the pre-release timeline
Hytale’s official Update 7 pre-release notes show Chapter 1 content being rolled out incrementally, not a completed chapter launching all at once. The notes were posted September 3, 2026, and include further dated entries through October 1. They describe the content as still actively in development and subject to change.

| Date | What Hytale reported | What that establishes |
|---|---|---|
| July 16, 2026 | The Chapter 1 preview gave a rough estimate of “within the next 2–3 months” and said a precise date would be provided closer to release. | An estimate published on that date, not a confirmed launch date. |
| September 3, 2026 | The first wave of Chapter 1 content appeared in the Update 7 pre-release notes; the rune ability system and other content remained subject to change. | Some Chapter 1 work was available in a pre-release build, not proof of a full chapter release. |
| September 24, 2026 | A second wave was described. Players could begin engaging with chapter content in pre-release by visiting the Forgotten Temple. | Further content was being made available for pre-release testing while development continued. |
| October 1, 2026 | The notes recorded additional changes, including potion cooldowns and a Wither Modifier Runestone. | Update 7 notes continued to change; this entry does not establish that the complete chapter had launched. |
The dated entries are in Hytale’s Update 7 pre-release patch notes. As of the notes through October 1, 2026, the evidence supports describing Chapter 1 as content being delivered in waves to pre-release, with active development ongoing. It does not establish whether the July estimate remained current by October 11, nor does it verify a later full release. Do not turn the July estimate into an exact release date by counting forward: Hytale itself called it rough and said a precise date would come closer to release.
The July estimate was “within the next 2–3 months,” published on July 16, rather than a scheduled day or a guarantee that all Chapter 1 features would arrive together. The later September and October notes show content appearing in pre-release waves, but they do not themselves announce that the entire chapter had reached a final release state. The safest way to read the timeline is to separate the dated estimate from build availability: a feature appearing in a pre-release build establishes that players could encounter that work there, not that the chapter’s full launch had been confirmed.
How to access the Chapter 1 pre-release content
The Update 7 notes direct players to enable the pre-release build through the launcher. The exact path given is Launcher → Settings → Pre-Release. After switching to pre-release, the September 24 notes say players can begin engaging with the chapter content by visiting the Forgotten Temple.
- Open the Hytale Launcher. Use the launcher’s settings rather than treating the chapter content as a separate game mode or standalone download; the official notes specify this launcher path.
- Go to Settings → Pre-Release. Enable the Pre-Release option as directed in the Update 7 notes.
- Launch the pre-release build. The Chapter 1 waves described in the notes are associated with this build. They may differ from a later release because the content is explicitly under active development.
- Visit the Forgotten Temple. The September 24 notes identify it as the place to begin engaging with the chapter content in pre-release.
The cited notes do not spell out every launcher prompt or troubleshooting step, and they do not say that the pre-release build represents a final, complete Chapter 1. Treat what appears there as work in progress rather than a guarantee of final content or timing. Pre-release availability and a finished chapter are therefore different milestones: the former lets players engage with content being developed, while the latter would require a separate confirmation that the release is complete.

Controller support is listed in Hytale’s May 26, 2026 Update 5 notes, so using a PC game controller is an optional input choice for players who prefer it. The notes do not identify compatible models or say a controller is required for Chapter 1. Check compatibility for a specific device rather than assuming every controller will work the same way.
What “before version 1.0” means for world generation
Chapter releases are one part of Early Access, but the period before 1.0 also includes foundational development. In its July Chapter 1 preview, Hytale said that after acquiring the game, the team went back to a version more than four years old, focused on catching up, rebuilding tools, and growing the team before shifting more attention toward new content. That is the developer’s account of its production priorities, not an independently verified development history or a complete account of what changed.
WorldGen V2 is a separate, specifically stated part of the 1.0 direction. Hytale says V2 is being developed for 1.0 and is intended to become the primary generator, replacing V1 once Orbis is ready. The transition is described as gradual, with V2 arriving in pieces. The July 29, 2026 Community Spotlight: WorldGen V2 says existing V1 worlds will not be deleted or left behind and will remain playable, but V1 will eventually stop generating new chunks. Hytale also warns that some items may not move between V1 and V2 worlds.
- Existing V1 worlds: intended to remain playable rather than be deleted.
- New terrain generation: V1 is eventually expected to stop generating new chunks.
- Moving between generator versions: some items may not transfer between V1 and V2 worlds.
- V2’s role: Hytale says it is working toward V2 for 1.0, with the handover occurring in stages.
For players, the key distinction is between keeping access to an existing world and continuing to expand it with newly generated terrain. Hytale’s statement supports the first: V1 worlds are intended to stay playable. It also says V1 will eventually stop creating new chunks, so continued playability should not be confused with a promise that every future world-generation feature will work in V1. The warning about items moving between generator versions is another reason not to assume that switching between V1 and V2 worlds will be seamless.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
These statements concern world generation and existing worlds. They do not amount to a full 1.0 feature list, a date for 1.0, or a guarantee that every Early Access system will be finalized in a particular chapter. Hytale describes V2 as arriving in pieces, which means its direction is clearer than a single all-at-once switch, but the article does not provide a complete schedule for those pieces or the transition.

For players trying to plan around the roadmap, it helps to separate published intentions from open details. The official materials establish the chapter/update distinction, the intended role of the Forgotten Temple, and the fact that Chapter 1 content appeared in Update 7 pre-release waves. They also describe the intended V1-to-V2 world-generation transition. They do not establish a firm Chapter 1 launch date or comprehensive 1.0 schedule.
- Confirmed as an announced design: chapters are larger Exploration Mode drops that advance the Cursebreaker Arc; updates focus on system improvements, tools, and polish.
- Confirmed in the dated pre-release notes: first and second Chapter 1 content waves were being developed and made available through Update 7 pre-release, with further changes recorded through October 1, 2026.
- Described as planned: the Forgotten Temple is to evolve with chapter releases, and its chapter screen is intended to track objectives and cosmetics.
- Still not established by these materials: a firm Chapter 1 release date, a complete list of Chapter 1 content, a complete 1.0 roadmap, or a comprehensive date for the V1-to-V2 transition.
Accordingly, treat the July 16 “within the next 2–3 months” statement as a dated estimate, not a current promise. For current build details, the Update 7 notes are the relevant published record through October 1, 2026; later development could change content or timing.

When does Chapter 1 release?
On July 16, 2026, Hytale gave a rough estimate of “within the next 2–3 months” and said it would provide a precise date closer to release. Update 7 notes through October 1 show content arriving in pre-release waves, but do not confirm a firm full-release date.
Will my V1 world remain playable after WorldGen V2 arrives?
Hytale says existing V1 worlds are intended to remain playable and will not be deleted or left behind. However, V1 will eventually stop generating new chunks, and some items may not move between V1 and V2 worlds.
Is WorldGen V2 the whole version 1.0 plan?
No. Hytale says V2 is being developed for 1.0 and is intended to replace V1 as the primary generator once Orbis is ready. That is a stated world-generation direction, not a complete 1.0 feature list or release schedule.
The Bottom Line
Think of updates as ongoing systems, tools, and polish, and chapters as larger Exploration Mode steps in the Cursebreaker Arc. Chapter 1 was appearing in Update 7 pre-release waves through October 1, 2026, but the July estimate was not a confirmed launch date. Hytale’s stated 1.0 direction includes a gradual move to WorldGen V2; existing V1 worlds are intended to remain playable, with limits on future chunk generation and possible item-transfer issues.
