Hot Wheels Infinite Rush combines a terrain-aware Track Builder with a separate vehicle-customization system. You assemble course modules in the game world, keep pieces aligned to the ground or route them around and above city structures, add action markers so virtual opponents can race the layout, and share the result with the community. Vehicle changes happen elsewhere through sticker, livery, wheel and perk options.

The official material describes the editor’s capabilities, but not every button, module type or platform-specific limit. The guide below separates confirmed features from details that have not been published.

What the Track Builder is designed to do

The Track Builder is an in-game course editor, not a companion tool for physical Hot Wheels track. Its purpose is to let you create a drivable route directly in the game’s islands and city spaces. The PlayStation game page describes courses attached to the ground, wrapped around buildings, or suspended above the city and between skyscrapers. That makes the surrounding map part of the design rather than a blank backdrop.

Placement is intended to reduce the manual work normally associated with uneven terrain. In its June 5, 2026 feature, Xbox Wire explains: “Instead of manually adjusting the height of each piece to make it fit the terrain, players can keep track modules ‘locked’ to the ground, so they naturally follow the surface as they’re placed in sequence.” In practical terms, a connected run can conform to the surface as you extend it instead of requiring you to set the elevation of every segment independently.

The editor therefore has two complementary ideas: a fast, terrain-following way to lay out a route and the freedom to leave the ground when your design calls for a city-spanning section. The published descriptions do not identify the full module catalog, the exact controls, or a maximum track length.

How to assemble a playable custom course

The documented workflow can be understood as four stages. The names of individual buttons may differ by platform, because the official pages do not publish a control map.

  1. Choose a route in the game world. Start with the space you want to use: a ground-level path, a line around buildings, or an elevated route over the city. The environment is part of the course, so decide early whether you are following natural terrain or using architecture as a landmark and boundary.
  2. Place connected track modules. Add pieces in sequence. When modules are kept locked to the ground, they follow the surface as they are placed, which is intended to avoid repeatedly correcting their height. Use the non-ground approach when the design needs to leave the surface or bridge between structures.
  3. Define the race path with action markers. Xbox Wire says action markers define a path and allow virtual opponents to race on a player-created track. A layout made only of attractive pieces may not be recognized as a complete challenge until its intended route has been marked.
  4. Share the finished creation. The same Xbox Wire feature says creations can be shared with the community. Sharing is a publication step for the course, separate from the act of placing modules and markers.

This sequence is an evidence-based model of the editor’s functions, not a claim that the game presents four named menus. No official source currently lists the precise confirmation, undo, test-drive or publishing commands.

Terrain-following placement versus city-scale construction

Construction approach What the official descriptions establish Why you would use it
Ground-locked modules Modules can stay “locked” to the ground and naturally follow the surface as pieces are placed in sequence. To extend a route over changing terrain without manually setting every piece’s height.
Ground-attached course The PlayStation page says players can attach modules to the ground. To keep a conventional, surface-based race line.
Building-side route The PlayStation description allows construction around buildings. To use urban structures as turns, obstacles or visual reference points.
Elevated route The page advertises racing above the city and between skyscrapers. To create a skyline section rather than staying at street level.

These are placement possibilities, not separate game modes. The sources do not say whether every module supports every placement style, whether elevation has a fixed limit, or how the editor handles intersections and overlapping pieces.

  • The dedicated storage spots in the fuel can make it easy to keep pieces organized and to save them from getting lost.
  • One Hot Wheels vehicle is included, making this a great all-inclusive gift for kids 6 years old and older who love experimenting and creating with their Hot Wheels track systems.

Making a layout work as a race

Action markers are the key distinction between a collection of track pieces and a route intended for competition. According to Xbox Wire, markers define the path and let virtual opponents race on player-created tracks. They provide the course logic that tells the game which direction the race should follow.

The official wording does not specify how many markers a course needs, what marker types exist, or whether markers also control laps, start positions, checkpoints, shortcuts or finish conditions. Treat those details as unconfirmed rather than assuming that conventions from another racing editor apply here.

Design checks before sharing

  • Follow the route in order while placing modules so the intended direction is clear.
  • Use the ground-following behavior where the surface changes height and reserve elevated construction for sections that genuinely need it.
  • Place action markers along the route you want virtual opponents to use.
  • Look for abrupt transitions around buildings or between ground and elevated sections; the published material does not promise automatic validation of every connection.
  • Test the route in the game’s available play options before treating the shared version as final, if the installed build provides a test command.

The last item is practical advice, not a documented control. The available official descriptions confirm playable custom tracks and virtual opponents, but they do not describe the editor’s testing screen.

Sharing, multiplayer and cross-play: what is actually confirmed

Created tracks can be shared with the community, according to the Xbox Wire feature. That establishes a publishing and discovery concept, but not the size of the library, moderation rules, search tools, ratings, download limits or whether a creator can edit a shared course after publication.

Hot Wheels Track Creator Deluxe Pack & 2 1:64 Scale Toy Cars
  • Build an original Hot Wheels track design or expand on an existing one with the Hot Wheels Track Creator Deluxe Track Pack.
  • Includes 25 feet of Speed Snap Track with 3 different sizes of straight and flex track.
  • With 2 Hot Wheels cars included, kids can start racing immediately.
  • Add track to existing builds or Hot Wheels playsets, or design something entirely original.
  • The 2 adapters create backwards compatibility between Speed Snap Track and legacy Hot Wheels e-track.

The PlayStation page advertises online multiplayer and cross-play for the game as a whole. It also lists single-player and split-screen play for up to four players. Those statements do not prove that every shared track transfers between every platform, nor that a course created on one platform is automatically available in all editions. Check the in-game sharing behavior for the version you own.

Vehicle customization is a separate system

Track construction changes the route; vehicle customization changes the car. Official descriptions mention four relevant customization areas: stickers, liveries, wheels and performance perks.

Customization area What is established What is not stated
Sticker editor Official descriptions identify a Sticker editor. The number of layers, decal library, placement controls and import options are not published.
Livery editor Official descriptions identify a Livery editor for vehicle appearance. The available paint channels, templates and sharing behavior are not detailed.
Wheels Wheel customization is supported. Official game news says wheel size remains tied to the original vehicle design. The available wheel styles, finishes and whether visual effects change are not specified.
Performance perks Official game news describes perks that affect vehicle performance. The perk catalog, numerical effects, unlock rules and stacking limits are not provided.

The wheel-size qualification matters: changing wheels does not necessarily let you alter the car’s underlying wheel scale. The Steam Community listing for official HOT WHEELS Infinite Rush news specifically describes size as tied to the original vehicle design.

Nothing in the cited material says that a sticker or livery changes handling. Conversely, the existence of performance perks does not establish that every visual part has a mechanical effect. Keep appearance edits and performance choices conceptually separate unless the game’s own interface assigns a stat change.

How the game context affects your designs

The PlayStation game page lists four islands and more than 150 vehicles, alongside single-player, split-screen for up to four players, online multiplayer and cross-play. Those figures and modes help explain why a creator might build several styles of course: a compact route for local play, a longer island-spanning design, or an elevated spectacle intended for online sessions.

Game context Officially listed detail Implication for a creator
Worlds Four islands. You can expect the editor to operate within more than one setting, although the sources do not say whether every island has identical building space.
Vehicle roster 150+ vehicles. Vehicle choice is a substantial part of the game, but the sources do not state whether all vehicles share identical perk slots or handling.
Local play Split-screen for up to four players. A readable route and clear markers matter when several local players share a screen.
Online play Online multiplayer. Shared creations may be used in online sessions, but the exact matchmaking and course-selection rules are not published.
Cross-play Advertised on the PlayStation page. Cross-platform play is a game feature; it is not proof that every editor asset or shared track synchronizes across platforms.

Availability and Early Access status

Xbox Wire reported on September 7, 2026 that the game was available in Early Access on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC. That is a dated availability snapshot, not a guarantee of the current edition or launch status. Before buying or attempting to use the editor, check the store page for your region and platform for the current edition, access requirements and update state. The official availability article is “Five Reasons to Race into Hot Wheels Infinite Rush, Out in Early Access Today.”

The cited pages do not verify a particular physical edition, a universal free upgrade, or identical feature availability across platforms. They also do not indicate that you need physical Hot Wheels track to use the in-game builder.

Common planning mistakes and safer fixes

Assuming a visual route is automatically raceable

A visually continuous line may still lack the path information used by virtual opponents. Add and review action markers rather than relying on geometry alone.

Trying to hand-correct every change in elevation

For terrain-based sections, use the documented ground-locked placement behavior instead of treating every module as an independent height adjustment. Switch to an elevated design only when the route calls for it.

Building across structures without checking the transition

Routes around buildings and between skyscrapers are supported concepts, but the official pages do not promise automatic collision or connection checks. Inspect each change from ground to structure-side or elevated construction.

Expecting cross-play to mean cross-platform publishing

Cross-play covers multiplayer compatibility in the advertised game features. It does not establish that a track’s creator data, edits or download list appear identically on every platform.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Expecting wheel edits to change the car’s proportions

Wheel customization exists, while wheel size remains tied to the original vehicle design. Choose a compatible visual style rather than assuming the editor provides unrestricted scaling.

What remains unknown

The official material is clear about the editor’s broad capabilities but leaves several operational questions unanswered:

  • The complete module and action-marker catalog.
  • Exact controller, keyboard and mouse commands.
  • Track-length, object-count or elevation limits.
  • Whether the editor offers automatic validation, a dedicated test mode, undo history or versioning.
  • How community browsing, moderation, privacy and post-publication editing work.
  • Whether shared tracks are synchronized across all cross-play platforms.
  • The names, values and unlock conditions for performance perks.
  • The number of sticker and livery layers and any import or export support.

Until the developer publishes those details or they appear in the game’s own documentation, avoid treating third-party assumptions as confirmed behavior.

Bottom line for prospective creators

Infinite Rush’s builder is centered on making course construction fit the game world. Ground-locked modules can follow terrain, while the broader environment supports routes around buildings and above the city. Action markers turn the assembled path into a course that virtual opponents can race, and finished creations can be shared with the community. Vehicle editing is separate, with stickers, liveries, wheels and performance perks; wheel size remains constrained by the original vehicle design. The strongest practical approach is to plan the environment first, place modules in a clear sequence, define the route with markers, and verify platform-specific sharing and availability in your current build.
