There is no confirmed Rockstar policy that transfers a GTA Online character, properties, vehicles, levels or GTA$ into GTA 6. The useful steps you can take now are to secure the Rockstar Games account that owns your profile, keep its platform links intact, remain eligible for migration and monitor Rockstar’s official announcements for a GTA 6-specific rule.
Rockstar’s existing migration rules cover selected moves within GTA Online—such as PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5, Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S, and PC Legacy to Enhanced—not a move from GTA Online into a new title. Treat those rules as preparation, not a promise about GTA 6.
Is GTA Online progress transfer to GTA 6 confirmed?
No. The Rockstar Support material currently documented for this topic explains account security and migrations between versions or console generations of GTA Online. It does not announce a GTA Online-to-GTA 6 transfer program.

- Player-created jobs, ratings or playlists
Rockstar could publish a separate policy later. Until it does, describe a GTA 6 transfer as unconfirmed. The safest preparation is to protect access to the account and preserve the conditions that make a current GTA Online migration possible.
Secure the Rockstar account that owns your character
Your character and inventory are server-side data associated with an account. A screenshot, save-file copy or USB drive cannot recreate that profile if you lose account access. Account security is therefore the practical protection step.
Verify the account email
- Sign in to the Rockstar Games account you use for GTA Online.
- Open the account settings and confirm the email address shown there.
- Complete Rockstar’s email-verification process if the address is unverified.
- Make sure you can still sign in to that mailbox and recover it independently.
Email verification is also a prerequisite for Rockstar’s documented two-step-verification setup. If you have several Rockstar accounts, check the account identifier before changing anything; securing the wrong account will not protect the character you play.

Enable two-step verification with an authenticator
In account security, enable two-step verification (2SV) and choose an authenticator app. Rockstar lists mobile or browser-based authenticator apps as compatible, including Twilio Authy, Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator and 1Password. The exact app matters less than retaining access to the device or browser profile that generates your codes.

- Verify your email first.
- Open Rockstar account security and select the two-step-verification option.
- Scan or enter the setup key in your authenticator app.
- Enter the generated code to confirm enrollment.
- Store any recovery information Rockstar provides somewhere you can reach if your phone is lost.
Protect the email account and authenticator device as carefully as the game account. A second factor is only useful if you can recover it after replacing a phone, deleting an authenticator profile or losing access to the mailbox.
Use a unique password
Create a password that you do not reuse on PlayStation Network, Xbox, Steam, Epic or your email account. Reused credentials let a breach on another service expose the Rockstar account. A password manager can generate and store a unique value, but the important requirement is uniqueness and a recovery method you control.
Keep platform links intact
Leave the PlayStation Network, Xbox, Steam, Epic and Rockstar links associated with the profile unless Rockstar Support specifically tells you to change them. Unlinking an account can complicate access or migration. Before changing consoles, sign in on the new device with the same platform identity and Rockstar account rather than creating a replacement profile.

What Rockstar’s current migration rules actually cover
Rockstar documents migration for supported GTA Online profiles between console generations. You start the process from the GTA Online landing page or Pause Menu after signing in on the destination console. The profile remains on the old console, but the generations no longer synchronize after migration.

The table describes the routes in Rockstar’s cited support guidance, not a GTA 6 feature. A migration prompt, account history and eligibility checks still control whether an individual profile can move.
Earned versus purchased GTA$
Rockstar distinguishes currency by how it was obtained: “Purchased GTA$ (i.e., money gained from Shark Cards, platform membership programs, etc.) can only be transferred between platforms of the same family … All earned GTA$ (i.e., money gained from playing the game) will transfer regardless of platform family.”
In practical terms, purchased currency can follow a PlayStation 4-to-PlayStation 5 move or an Xbox One-to-Xbox Series X|S move, because each is within one platform family. It is not eligible for a cross-family move. Earned GTA$ have the broader transfer treatment described by Rockstar, but that rule still applies to supported GTA Online migrations—not automatically to GTA 6.

Achievements and user-created content
Rockstar says trophies and achievements transfer with the migrated account profile in the supported migration scenarios. That statement does not establish that the same achievements will carry into GTA 6.
Player-created missions have route-specific behavior. Rockstar’s guidance says missions are copied across platform families, but edits made later on the old platform do not propagate to the copied version. Within the same family, missions and ratings have shared behavior subject to that family’s synchronization rules. If a job matters to you, preserve its details and ratings separately for reference instead of assuming an old-platform edit will update every copy.
Migration eligibility can block an otherwise valid route
Migration is not automatic. Rockstar identifies several reasons a profile may be ineligible:
- The account is suspended or banned.
- The profile has already been migrated.
- Progress is identified as illegitimate.
- The profile has insufficient progress for the migration requirement.
Do not attempt to manufacture progress, buy or sell accounts, use cheats, or exploit glitches. Those actions can trigger enforcement and remove eligibility. Keep the account in good standing on the source platform, and use the same legitimate profile when you reach the destination console.

How to move when you change console generations
- Prepare the source account. Verify the Rockstar email, enable 2SV, confirm the correct PlayStation Network or Xbox account is linked, and make sure the profile is not under a suspension.
- Install and update GTA Online on the destination console. Sign in with the platform account and Rockstar account that own the existing profile.
- Open the migration entry point. Use the GTA Online landing page or the Pause Menu option presented by Rockstar on the destination version.
- Review the profile and currency notice. Confirm that the displayed character is the one you intend to move, and read any warning about purchased or unspent GTA$.
- Confirm migration once. Rockstar’s eligibility checks may reject a profile; do not create a second account to work around a rejection.
- Check the destination profile. Confirm character data, properties, vehicles, balance categories, achievements and jobs that Rockstar says are included for that route.
After a successful console migration, the source profile is retained but the two generations do not stay synchronized. New progress made separately on the old console should therefore not be treated as a backup copy of the destination profile.
What you can and cannot back up yourself
Useful records to keep
- Your Rockstar account email and account identifier
- Platform account identifiers for PlayStation Network, Xbox, Steam or Epic
- Purchase receipts for Shark Cards or membership benefits
- Screenshots of character names, properties, custom jobs and important settings
- Details of the authenticator recovery method
These records help Support identify the account or investigate a disputed transaction. Receipts and screenshots are evidence for a support conversation, not a replacement save file.
Things that do not create a transferable backup
- Copying screenshots or clips to a USB drive
- Saving the game disc or console storage
- Exporting a local character file
- Keeping an old console connected after migration
Rockstar stores the character, properties, inventory and currency data on its services. Only a migration path Rockstar supports can move that server-side profile.
A practical pre-GTA 6 protection checklist
- Sign in now and verify the email on the Rockstar account that owns your GTA Online profile.
- Enable 2SV with an authenticator app and test that you can generate a code.
- Secure the mailbox and keep authenticator recovery access available.
- Replace any reused Rockstar password with a unique one.
- Confirm that your PlayStation Network, Xbox, Steam or Epic link is the intended one.
- Keep receipts and account identifiers in a private, accessible location.
- Avoid cheats, account selling, illegitimate progress and conduct that could cause a ban or suspension.
- When changing console generations, use Rockstar’s in-game migration flow and read the currency notice before confirming.
- Follow Rockstar Newswire and Rockstar Support for a GTA 6-specific announcement; do not rely on rumors or third-party claims.
How to interpret a future GTA 6 announcement
When Rockstar publishes a policy, check five details before assuming your profile qualifies:
- Eligible source and destination: Determine whether the rule covers your console family, PC edition or account type.
- One-time versus repeat migration: Existing rules can make a profile ineligible after it has already migrated.
- Currency categories: Look for separate treatment of earned GTA$ and purchased GTA$.
- Content scope: Check whether the notice names characters, properties, vehicles, achievements, jobs and ratings individually.
- Synchronization: Confirm whether the old and new versions remain linked or become separate profiles after the move.
Until those points are stated for GTA 6, the only defensible promise is that account security and good account standing improve your ability to access whatever Rockstar eventually supports.
