GeForce NOW lets you stream supported PC games from NVIDIA’s cloud hardware to a compatible device. To play a game you already own, connect the store or publisher account that holds it, check that the exact game and edition are in GeForce NOW’s catalog for your region, then sign in to verify ownership when prompted. Owning a game does not by itself make it playable on the service; it must also be supported. Free-to-play games are an exception to the purchase requirement.
What happens when you play a game you own?
GeForce NOW runs the game on a remote computer in NVIDIA’s cloud and streams the resulting gameplay to your device. Your computer, phone, tablet, TV, or other supported device is the screen and input endpoint: it sends your controls to the cloud session and receives the video stream. You are not installing or running the game on your local device in the usual PC-gaming sense.
The game entitlement still comes from a supported game store or publisher account. GeForce NOW checks that account when you launch a title, and the cloud session runs the supported version of the game. NVIDIA’s FAQ puts the purchase requirement plainly: “Yes, you need to own or purchase a game from one of the supported game stores before playing it on GeForce NOW.” Free-to-play titles can be played without buying them, but they still need to be supported by the service. NVIDIA’s GeForce NOW FAQ
That means there are two separate checks: whether your account is entitled to the game, and whether GeForce NOW supports that game and storefront version. A connected library is not a promise that every title in it will launch.

Check the game before setting up
Search NVIDIA’s supported-games catalog for the exact title, then check the listing and store version that match your account. A game can be associated with more than one storefront, so do not assume that support for one version guarantees support for another. Availability can also vary by country, including because of local content-rating restrictions.
- Title and edition: Confirm the game appears in the catalog and that the PC storefront version you own is the supported one.
- Region: Check the catalog from the country where you intend to play. NVIDIA says availability can differ by country.
- Play route: See whether the title is Ready-to-Play or eligible for Install-to-Play. Those routes have different setup and storage requirements.
- Device: Verify that your device is supported and meets NVIDIA’s current requirements. Device compatibility and available features vary.
- Account: Make sure you can sign in to the store or publisher account where the entitlement is held.
NVIDIA currently advertises support for more than 4,500 games on its European service page. Its European games page also advertises access to 2,200+ Install-to-Play titles for premium members. These are NVIDIA’s published catalog claims, not an independently audited or guaranteed count for every country; neither figure means that every listed game is in your personal library or available in your region. Connect your account and launch an owned game
NVIDIA’s documented setup is to choose a membership, open GeForce NOW in the app or browser experience, connect a supported game-store or publisher account, and search for the game. When you select a game, GeForce NOW launches a cloud session and may ask you to sign in to the relevant store to verify ownership. Follow the on-screen sign-in flow; the exact prompts can differ by game and account. NVIDIA’s how-to guide

- Choose a membership. Review the membership options shown for your location and choose one that suits your use. Features and terms can change, so check the current membership information rather than relying on an older price or plan description.
- Open GeForce NOW. Use the app or browser experience supported by your device.
- Connect the account that owns the game. NVIDIA lists Ubisoft Connect, Battle.net, EA app, GOG, Epic Games Store, Steam, and Xbox among connected stores or accounts. Available integrations and features can vary; consult the current FAQ.
- Find the title. Search in GeForce NOW and confirm the catalog result matches the title and storefront edition you own. If it does not appear as supported, connecting the account will not make it launchable.
- Launch and verify. Select the game tile. If prompted, sign in to the relevant store or publisher account so the service can verify your entitlement. You may also need to complete the store’s own sign-in steps.
- Play in the cloud session. Once the game starts, use your device’s input method or a compatible controller. Controller support includes SHIELD controllers and third-party Bluetooth or USB-wired controllers on newer SHIELD models; check compatibility for your particular device before choosing a controller.
Ready-to-Play and Install-to-Play are different
Ready-to-Play: select the game and stream
NVIDIA keeps Ready-to-Play games up to date and available to stream without requiring you to install them yourself. NVIDIA manages that backend preparation, so this is the most direct route for an owned game that is supported and appears in this category. You still need the relevant store account and ownership verification when required.
Install-to-Play: install an eligible Steam game in the cloud
Install-to-Play is a premium feature for eligible Steam titles whose publishers have opted into Steam Cloud Gaming. It can make additional titles from a user’s Steam library accessible, but it does not cover every Steam game or every game you own. You select an eligible title and start its installation inside the cloud session.
NVIDIA’s FAQ describes 100 GB of single-session storage for premium memberships. A game installed this way may need to be downloaded again in a later session. Optional persistent storage can keep installations between sessions. For a game without Steam Cloud saves, persistent storage may also be needed to preserve progress. Storage availability and terms can change, so check the current FAQ and how-to guide before choosing this route.

What account linking does—and does not do
Linking a store account can connect a library to GeForce NOW, but it does not add all of that library’s games to NVIDIA’s supported catalog. Account linking, a game’s catalog eligibility, and the ownership check are distinct. Each needs to line up for the game to launch.
For example, Steam library sync requires the Steam account to be public according to NVIDIA’s release highlights. Those notes also say that newly purchased games require you to press Sync again. The same page describes Ubisoft library syncing for supported Ubisoft games bought directly from Ubisoft or the Epic Games Store. These details come from release highlights spanning different versions, so check the current app interface for the applicable controls rather than assuming a particular button or menu label is unchanged. NVIDIA release highlights
NVIDIA’s current pages also describe linking libraries and subscriptions such as PC Game Pass in some regions. Do not assume subscription access is available everywhere or that it includes every game in a subscription catalog: confirm the title, region, account path, and current support details in NVIDIA’s FAQ and games catalog.

If a game you own will not launch
Work through the checks in order; the cause is often a mismatch between the game listing, store account, and launch route rather than the fact that the game is owned.
- It does not appear in search: Search the supported-games catalog directly, including the exact title. If it is absent, GeForce NOW does not list it as supported for your check; ownership alone cannot add it.
- You see a different store edition: Compare the catalog result with the storefront that holds your game. Support for one store version does not establish support for another.
- Your library is missing a recent purchase: For Steam library sync, NVIDIA’s release notes say a newly purchased game requires another sync. Also check whether the Steam account is public, as NVIDIA specifies for library sync.
- The game asks you to buy or sign in: Sign in to the correct store or publisher account—the account that holds the entitlement—and complete the ownership verification prompt. If the entitlement is on another account, switch to that account.
- The game is Install-to-Play: Confirm it is an eligible Steam title and that you have the required premium membership. Allow for installation in the cloud and a possible redownload in a later session; check persistent storage needs if you need installations or progress retained.
- It appears unavailable in your country: Check the catalog and current service information for your location. NVIDIA says game availability can differ by country.
- You cannot use your device or controls: Check current device compatibility and requirements. If using a controller, verify that the model and connection type work with that device; controller support is not a guarantee that every controller works everywhere.
If the catalog lists the exact title and store version but the ownership check still fails, confirm that the connected account is the one with the game and use NVIDIA’s current support and account guidance. Avoid treating a library-sync result as proof of either ownership verification or catalog eligibility.

Understand the purchase and membership boundary
GeForce NOW membership and game ownership are separate. A membership provides access to the cloud-streaming service and its applicable features; games are purchased from supported stores, while free-to-play titles do not require a purchase. NVIDIA also offers membership gift cards, which apply to GeForce NOW memberships rather than buying games. NVIDIA membership gift cards

No single membership price or term should be assumed from an older guide: check the current offer and conditions for your location. In particular, the Install-to-Play option has a premium-membership requirement, while other feature availability should be checked against current service terms. If you are considering buying a PC version specifically to stream it, verify that exact storefront edition in the catalog and your region first.
Devices and controls
NVIDIA’s FAQ describes GeForce NOW streaming to supported computers, phones, tablets, TVs, and other platforms. Not every device supports the same features, and system requirements can change. Confirm the current requirements for the device you intend to use before troubleshooting a game-specific issue.
A gamepad is optional, not a prerequisite for owning or launching a game. NVIDIA documents gamepad support, including SHIELD controllers and third-party Bluetooth or USB-wired controllers on newer SHIELD models. A controller can be useful on a device without convenient built-in controls, but check support for your device and game rather than assuming any Bluetooth or USB controller will work.
