Becoming a GE Aerospace supplier is a buyer-led qualification process, not a matter of obtaining one certificate and joining an open vendor list. For Engines and Systems flight hardware, GE identifies AS9100 certification as the minimum quality baseline and requires NADCAP accreditation for applicable special processes. A supplier must also pass GE’s reviews of quality, financial stability, capacity, capability, risk, and contract-specific requirements. The exact path changes with the part, process, GE site, end use, and clauses flowed into the purchase order or contract.

What GE actually qualifies

GE Aerospace does not apply one universal checklist to every purchase. The published AS9100 and NADCAP statements are explicitly tied to the Engines and Systems flight-hardware context. A company proposing engine repair, an indirect good, a software service, a raw material, or a special process may face a different combination of approvals and flow-downs.

Start by defining the proposed work in the language a buyer will use:

  • Flight hardware: parts or assemblies that become part of an aircraft engine or related flight system.
  • Special process: a process whose results cannot be fully verified by later inspection, such as certain heat-treatment, coating, welding, or nondestructive-testing activities. The applicable process and accreditation scope must be confirmed with GE.
  • Service or repair: maintenance, overhaul, engineering, laboratory, or other support work that can carry separate technical and quality requirements.
  • Indirect procurement: goods or services used by GE operations but not incorporated into flight hardware.

This classification determines which GE organization, site documents, certifications, audits, export controls, and commercial terms apply. Do not present the flight-hardware minimum as a requirement for every GE purchase.

The qualification path, step by step

1. Map the scope before choosing certifications

Create a one-page scope statement covering the proposed part or service, manufacturing location, process steps, intended GE site, end use, and any subcontracted operations. Identify whether the work affects product conformity, safety, traceability, or regulatory compliance. This prevents a common failure: holding a certificate whose scope does not cover the process, site, product family, or legal entity that would appear on the purchase order.

Ask the prospective GE contact which business, site, and program owns the requirement. GE’s public guidance is not an invitation to assume that every category is open for unsolicited bidding; some programs use targeted sourcing and assessment.

2. Establish an AS9100-based quality system

For Engines and Systems flight hardware, GE states that AS9100 certification is the minimum quality requirement. AS9100 is the aerospace quality-management standard built on ISO 9001 with additional controls for aerospace risks, product safety, configuration management, counterfeit parts, operational risk, and traceability.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

GE’s General Quality System Requirements specification, QSR-001 (document identifier GQD-003), requires a documented and maintained quality programme that assures compliance with contractual requirements. It calls for relevant procedures, records, and controls over outsourced processes that can affect conformity. The specification applies when it is referenced on a GE purchase order or contract, so the signed order and its incorporated documents control the enforceable details.

GE also states that a supplier with an AS9100-approved quality system listed in the International Aerospace Quality Group’s OASIS database is assumed compliant with the quality-system requirements in the applicable QSR-001 section. That assumption is limited to the quality-system section; it is not automatic GE supplier approval and does not replace technical, commercial, capacity, financial, or site-specific reviews.

3. Match NADCAP accreditation to each special process

GE’s Small Business Program page says NADCAP certification is required for special processes in the named flight-hardware context. NADCAP accreditation is process- and location-specific. A heat-treatment accreditation, for example, does not establish approval for chemical processing or nondestructive testing, and an accreditation at one facility does not automatically cover another facility.

Before an assessment, prepare the exact NADCAP scope, expiration status, audit findings, corrective-action records, and subcontractor arrangements. Confirm with GE which special-process specifications, approved-source lists, and purchase-order clauses apply. The public statement does not enumerate every process or program, so a generic claim that a company is “NADCAP certified” is insufficient without the scope.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

4. Prepare objective evidence, not just certificates

GE buyers and quality personnel need evidence that the system operates. Organize a controlled evidence package containing:

  • Current AS9100 certificate, legal entity, covered sites, scope statement, registrar, and expiration date.
  • NADCAP certificates and scopes for every applicable special process and facility.
  • Quality manual or system overview, process maps, work instructions, inspection plans, and record-retention rules.
  • Calibration and measurement-system records, nonconformance and corrective-action logs, internal-audit results, and management-review outputs.
  • Supplier-control records showing how outsourced conformity-affecting work is selected, approved, monitored, and verified.
  • Configuration, change-control, lot or batch traceability, product-safety, and counterfeit-part controls where relevant.
  • Evidence of production capacity, qualified personnel, equipment capability, maintenance, and business-continuity arrangements.

Use revision-controlled documents and identify the facility and process to which each record belongs. An auditor should be able to trace a requirement from the contract to a procedure, a production record, an inspection result, and the shipped product.

5. Pass GE’s supplier assessment

GE says it assesses quality and financial stability before a company becomes a supplier. Its Supplier Expectations and Performance Management material describes risk-based assessment that can consider product quality, supplier risk, capacity, and capability. Suppliers are expected to cooperate with the assessment process.

6. Respond through the official sourcing route when invited

GE’s Oracle Sourcing supplier portal supports responses to requests for information (RFI), requests for quotation (RFQ), and online auctions. Access to that tool is a transaction mechanism, not proof that every GE category is open for enrollment. GE separately states that the referenced Engines and Systems flight-hardware program does not use open bidding.

Treat an RFI as information gathering and an RFQ as a controlled commercial event. Follow the event’s submission deadline, currency, delivery terms, technical-response format, confidentiality rules, and clarification process. Do not assume that an unsolicited capability presentation creates a bid opportunity or bypasses a buyer’s qualification sequence.

7. Accept the contract and site flow-downs

GE’s doing-business materials publish purchase terms and supplier-performance expectations. Its supplier-management material says requirements may include contractual clauses, quality provisions, government flow-downs, export controls, and environmental obligations. Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) or Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS) clauses may apply when they are incorporated into the relevant order or subcontract; their presence cannot be assumed from the company’s industry alone.

Read the complete solicitation, purchase order, referenced specifications, drawings, quality clauses, approved-source requirements, record-retention periods, and change-notification rules. QSR-001 is binding when referenced on the order or contract, while other GE documents can be incorporated by citation. The contract controls which revision and which flow-downs apply.

Documents and controls GE may expect

Qualification area What to demonstrate Important limitation
Quality system AS9100 certification and an operating system with procedures, records, audits, corrective action, configuration control, and product-safety controls. The AS9100 minimum published by GE is scoped to Engines and Systems flight hardware.
Special processes NADCAP accreditation covering the exact process and facility, plus control of any approved subcontractor. A generic NADCAP claim does not establish the required process or site scope.
Product conformity Inspection and test plans, calibrated equipment, traceability, nonconformance control, and objective acceptance records. Detailed requirements come from the applicable drawing, specification, and purchase-order clauses.
Capacity and capability Equipment, personnel, qualified operators, throughput, lead-time, maintenance, and continuity evidence. GE does not publish universal capacity thresholds or a standard review duration.
Financial stability Information that allows GE to evaluate the supplier’s ability to perform and remain viable. Public guidance does not disclose a common financial score or formula.
Compliance and security Export-control, environmental, government-flowdown, background-screening, and site-access controls when applicable. Applicability depends on the contract, location, personnel, and system access requested.

How site-specific requirements change the answer

GE’s approvals page links Supplier Quality Requirements and Supplementary Purchase Order Conditions, including site-specific material. The page identifies a Cheltenham SQR/SPOC update dated November 26, 2024. That date is a revision marker, not evidence that the same document governs every GE facility. Obtain the current revision for the site and program named in the solicitation or order.

Site documents can add inspection, packaging, first-article, notification, record-retention, or approved-process requirements. If a site document conflicts with an older internal checklist, resolve the conflict with the buyer or supplier-quality contact before production. Keep the accepted revision with the contract file.

Which GE portals do what

Portal or resource Typical use What it does not prove
Oracle Sourcing Responding to RFIs and RFQs and submitting bids in online auctions when invited or applicable. It does not prove open enrollment or supplier qualification.
iSupplier Viewing purchase orders and submitting invoices after the commercial relationship exists. It is not a certification, audit, or prequalification route.
Supplier-quality and approvals pages Finding current quality requirements, supplementary conditions, and site materials. A downloaded document does not replace the clauses incorporated into a specific order.

Security, access, and personnel screening

GE states that unescorted badge access or system access depends on a successfully completed and verified background check. For non-U.S. personnel, screening must follow the contractual allocation of responsibilities and applicable local law. Plan this before an employee needs access to a GE facility, network, drawing repository, or production system.

Limit access to the people and systems required for the contract, document screening status, and coordinate exceptions with GE security. A company can be technically qualified yet unable to start work on schedule if required personnel or system-access checks are incomplete.

Small-business participation

GE Aerospace’s Small Business Policy says: “Buyers must give maximum practicable consideration to small, women-owned small; small disadvantaged; veteran-owned small; service-disabled veteran-owned small; and HUBZone small business concerns, and are obligated to solicit and use their best efforts to place purchase orders with such concerns except where competitive conditions, timely delivery, and efficient performance of the contract do not permit it.”

This is a policy commitment, not a guarantee of an award or an exemption from technical, quality, financial, security, or delivery requirements. A small business should still present a clearly bounded capability, current certifications, realistic capacity, and evidence of controlled outsourced work.

Common mistakes and how to prevent them

Assuming AS9100 alone wins work

AS9100 addresses the quality-management baseline in the stated flight-hardware scope. It does not establish product approval, capacity, financial stability, technical capability, or a place in a sourcing event. Keep those evidence streams separate in your readiness plan.

Using a certificate outside its scope

Check the legal entity, facility address, process scope, and expiration date. If a subcontractor performs a special process, show how that supplier is approved and monitored rather than presenting your own certificate as coverage.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Ignoring incorporated clauses

Read every referenced specification and supplementary condition in the solicitation or purchase order. Requirements become actionable through the contract’s flow-downs, not through assumptions based on a general webpage.

Expecting a published timetable

GE’s public material does not provide a universal qualification duration or score. Build a schedule around document readiness, assessment availability, corrective-action time, security screening, and the sourcing event’s deadline.

Confusing portals with qualification

Oracle Sourcing can carry an RFI or RFQ response, and iSupplier can support purchase-order and invoice administration. Neither portal substitutes for buyer invitation, assessment, certification scope, or contractual acceptance.

A practical readiness checklist

  1. Define the part, process, service, facility, GE site, and end use.
  2. Confirm whether the opportunity is flight hardware, a special process, service, repair, or indirect procurement.
  3. For flight hardware, verify AS9100 certification scope and OASIS listing status for the supplying entity and site.
  4. For special processes, verify the exact NADCAP accreditation scope and current status.
  5. Assemble controlled procedures, records, audit results, calibration data, traceability, nonconformance, and outsourced-process controls.
  6. Prepare capacity, capability, continuity, personnel, equipment, and financial-stability evidence.
  7. Obtain the current site-specific Supplier Quality Requirements and Supplementary Purchase Order Conditions.
  8. Review the actual solicitation or purchase order for quality, government, export-control, environmental, security, and record-retention clauses.
  9. Complete required background checks and system-access controls before personnel need access.
  10. Use Oracle Sourcing, iSupplier, and other GE systems only for the stage and purpose assigned to them.

What qualification does—and does not—mean

Qualification means GE has accepted a supplier for a defined scope under defined conditions. It does not create a perpetual approval for every GE site, engine program, part number, process, or future contract. Changes in facility, ownership, equipment, process, subcontractor, certification status, or contractual requirements can trigger re-evaluation or notification.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The safest operating model is to maintain a live compliance matrix: list each contract clause, drawing and specification revision, certification scope, special process, approved source, responsible owner, evidence location, and expiration or review date. Update it when GE issues a new order or site revision rather than relying on a one-time onboarding file.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
