Fortnite’s Item Shop is a rotating catalog that refreshes at about 0:00 AM GMT, with the local rotation time shown through the shop’s information panel. Epic does not publish a date for an individual cosmetic’s next appearance. A listed item has a planned removal time, while some newer Pass cosmetics may become shop-eligible after 18 months; that policy is a possibility, not a promise. Returning a cosmetic you already bought is a separate refund process.
How the Fortnite Item Shop rotation works
Epic describes the Item Shop as constantly rotating its offerings, including outfits, bundles, special offers and other cosmetic content. The shop and Fortnite Webshop refresh at around 0:00 AM GMT, rather than at a guaranteed exact second. The official refresh guidance is available in Epic’s Item Shop refresh support article.
“Around” matters because the changeover can depend on the service and the way your account displays time. Epic’s April 9, 2024 shop update removed the old single, global refresh countdown and moved rotation information into each player’s own time zone. The same update added a planned rotation-out date to individual item descriptions. See Epic’s April 9, 2024 shop and Locker changes announcement for that interface history.

- Open Fortnite and enter the Item Shop, or open the Fortnite Webshop.
- Open the shop’s About Shop information. Epic directs players there for the refresh time in their specific time zone.
- Treat the displayed time as an approximate rotation point. If the catalog has not changed exactly at that moment, allow for a short service-side delay and reload the shop.
The reset changes what is offered; it does not create a schedule for every cosmetic. A daily-looking rotation therefore tells you when to check, not which outfit, emote or pickaxe will appear next.

How to see when a current item leaves
For an item that is currently purchasable, Fortnite provides a planned removal date and time in the item’s detail view. Epic’s instructions are specific: select the cosmetic in the Item Shop or in-game store, then look below the Purchase button for the removal information. The step-by-step support page is How to check when an item will be removed and unavailable for purchase.
- Open the Item Shop.
- Select the outfit, back bling, pickaxe, emote, bundle or other offer you are considering.
- In the item description, scroll to the area beneath Purchase.
- Read the displayed date and time in your account’s local presentation, and buy before that point if you want the current offer.
This timestamp answers when the present listing is expected to end. It does not answer when the same cosmetic will be listed again. Once the item is gone, the previous removal timestamp has no predictive value for its next appearance.
When will a cosmetic that left the shop return?
There is no publicly scheduled next-return date for an ordinary cosmetic. Epic’s support guidance is to keep checking the Item Shop; support cannot grant an item that is not currently available. The wording “Our Item Shop constantly rotates Items” appears in Epic Games Support’s article about item returns.

That means a past appearance, a long absence or a community-maintained shop history cannot establish a future release date. Historical logs can show that an item appeared before, but they are records of the past rather than an Epic guarantee. No official frequency figure establishes that skins return every particular number of days, weeks or seasons.
What you can and cannot infer from shop history

If a cosmetic is important to you, the dependable action is to check the shop yourself at the daily rotation and whenever Epic announces a relevant catalog change. Avoid treating a prediction from a social post or tracker as an official date.
The limited rule for newer Fortnite Pass items
Epic has introduced a narrow eligibility policy for some Pass content. The dedicated Pass FAQ says that, starting with Chapter 5 Season 4, Pass items might be offered in the Item Shop after 18 or more months have passed from the Pass’s expiration. Epic’s broader support wording describes items released after August 7, 2024 as potentially available at least 18 months after a Pass expires. Both statements include the same limitation: there is no guarantee. Read the dedicated explanation at Epic’s previous Passes and Pass-item FAQ.

The policy covers more than outfits. Epic lists possible categories including Outfits, Back Blings, Pickaxes, Emotes, Instruments, Decals, Wraps, Loading Screens and Banner Icons, plus other Pass content. “Might be offered” means the item is eligible for consideration under the policy; it is not a scheduled shop date and does not confirm that a named cosmetic will be sold.

The 18-month figure is a policy threshold, not a return-frequency statistic. It marks the earliest point at which the stated possibility can apply; it does not predict the first day an eligible item will appear.
Shop availability and refunds are different kinds of “return”
Players often use “return” for two unrelated events. A shop return means Epic lists a cosmetic again for people who do not own it. A purchase refund removes a cosmetic from the account and restores V-Bucks when the purchase qualifies. A refund does not put the cosmetic back into the public shop or make its next listing more likely.

Cancel Purchase
Epic’s cancellation terms apply immediately after an eligible shop purchase. The cancellation route ends at the earlier of two events: equipping the item in gameplay or reaching 24 hours after purchase. Once either event occurs, the immediate cancellation option is no longer available for that purchase.

Return Tickets
For eligible purchases outside that cancellation period, Epic provides Return Tickets. Accounts start with three tickets, can hold no more than three at once, and can use a ticket for an eligible purchase made up to 30 days earlier. A ticket is replenished 365 days after the most recent ticket addition; the account still cannot exceed three stored tickets. The rules and account controls are documented on Epic’s Fortnite Cancel Purchase page.
- Before confirming a purchase, check the item’s name, style, bundle contents and price.
- If you change your mind immediately, use the cancellation option before equipping the item or reaching the 24-hour limit.
- If cancellation has expired, check whether the purchase is within the 30-day Return Ticket window and whether you have a ticket available.
- Expect the returned cosmetic to leave your locker when the refund is processed; it is not converted into a shop listing.
A practical routine for catching a wanted cosmetic
- Check the shop near the local reset. Use the About Shop panel rather than converting GMT by memory, because Epic presents the rotation in your account’s time zone.
- Open the item detail. If the cosmetic is listed, read the planned removal time below Purchase.
- Decide before the offer ends. A removal time is the actionable deadline for the current listing; waiting for a later return has no published date.
- For a missed item, monitor future rotations. Epic does not provide customer support with a way to award an unavailable cosmetic.
- For newer Pass content, verify eligibility. Apply the 18-month possibility only to the Pass scope Epic describes, and treat it as uncertain.
- Keep refunds separate from tracking. Use Cancel Purchase or a Return Ticket only to reverse your own eligible purchase, not as a method of obtaining an item that left the shop.
Common mistakes and what they mean
“The old global countdown disappeared, so the shop stopped refreshing.”
That is an interface change, not evidence that rotation ended. Epic’s April 2024 update replaced the overall countdown with time-zone-specific rotation information and item-level removal dates.
“The item says it leaves tonight, so it will return tomorrow.”
The displayed timestamp concerns removal of the current offer only. Epic does not attach a next-return date to that timestamp.

“It has been gone for months, so it must be exclusive.”
Absence alone establishes neither exclusivity nor retirement. Unless Epic states a separate availability rule, the only confirmed fact is that the cosmetic is not currently listed.
“The 18-month Pass rule guarantees my old Battle Pass skin.”
It does not. The policy is limited to the specified newer Pass scope and says an eligible item might be offered after at least 18 months. It does not promise that any particular item will appear.
“A refund will make the cosmetic show up for everyone again.”
Refunding reverses your purchase. It does not control the shared Item Shop catalog.
What Epic officially confirms—and what remains unknown
Epic’s documentation confirms the approximate daily refresh point, the local-time presentation, the planned removal display for current offers, the limited newer-Pass eligibility rule and the separate refund terms. It does not publish a reliable calendar for individual cosmetics or an official statistic describing average return frequency. Any article or social post that gives a definite next date for an ordinary departed item is making a prediction beyond those published rules.
For the most reliable answer about a cosmetic today, open the Item Shop, read the About Shop timing and inspect the item’s own removal line. For a cosmetic that is no longer listed, checking future rotations is the only official method Epic supplies.
