EA SPORTS FC 26 Champions matchmaking uses your location, current Champions Form, and platform or cross-play settings. It does not publish a squad-rating or Rivals-division formula for pairing opponents. In FC 26, Champions Play-Offs were removed: you earn Champions Qualification Points (CQP) from the new progression route, can earn them from Division 7, and automatically qualify from Division 6 once you hold enough points. Finals contain 15 matches, while the game has 15 reward tiers.
How does Champions matchmaking work?
EA’s current Champions guide names three matchmaking considerations:
- Location: your location determines the EA SPORTS FC Game Data Center used for the connection.
- Current Form: your running win-and-loss result in the Champions competition.
- Platform and cross-play settings: these determine which platform-generation pool you can enter.
EA says players are matched with others with similar Form. It does not publish a numerical Form range, require identical records, or explain exactly how the search expands when a suitable opponent is unavailable. Therefore, seeing an opponent with a different visible record does not by itself disprove the stated system: Form is only one input, and location and platform restrictions also affect the available pool.
EA’s published Champions rules do not list squad rating, chemistry, club value, Rivals Division, or Rivals Skill Rating as matchmaking inputs. Those factors may describe your team or another mode, but they are not an official Champions pairing rule in the guidance linked above. In particular, a stronger-looking squad or a higher Rivals standing should not be treated as proof that the opponent was selected because of that factor.

Location and the Game Data Center
The location setting is used to select a Game Data Center. That can affect latency and which players are available in your search, particularly when fewer people are queuing in your region. EA does not publish a complete list of acceptable latency values or a guaranteed maximum distance between opponents, so a distant-looking opponent is not evidence of a different Form rule.
Platform generations and cross-play
EA groups PlayStation 4 and Xbox One together for cross-play. PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC form the other listed group. Cross-play must be enabled before you can be matched across the supported platforms in your group. EA says Champions cross-play does not apply to Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2.
Check the game’s cross-play setting before searching. If it is disabled, the search is limited to your own platform pool; if you are on a Switch console, enabling a setting cannot add Champions cross-play because EA excludes those systems from the feature. Cross-play does not combine the two listed generation groups: PS4 and Xbox One are paired in their group, while PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC are in the other.

What is Champions Form?
Form is a competition-specific running record, not a permanent rating and not your Rivals rank. EA’s rule is simple: Form starts at zero for the current Champions run, each win adds one, and each loss subtracts one.

For example, the sequence W/L/L/W/W produces this running total:

That final value of +1 is the Form value used as one matchmaking consideration at that point in the competition. Because Form is tied to the current run, it should not be treated as a lifetime Champions score. EA does not state that the matchmaking system must find an opponent with the same Form number or the same win-loss record.

Form is also not the same as your Finals rank. Form changes after each result according to the win/loss rule and is used in matchmaking. Finals rank is reward progression across the event. A player can therefore be discussing a good Finals result without that number being their Form.

FC 26 changed qualification. The launch update says Champions Play-Offs were removed. Instead, Champions Qualification Points can be earned from Division 7, and players automatically qualify from Division 6 once they have enough points. Reaching Division 6 alone is not the whole condition: the update ties automatic qualification to having enough CQP as well. This is the FC 26 launch-era rule, not the older Play-Offs route described in earlier versions of Ultimate Team.
EA’s pre-launch FC 26 FUT Deep Dive announced direct qualification but left the precise division for a later update. The subsequent FC 26 Launch Update supplies the specific Division 7 and Division 6 wording. EA Help describes the ways to earn CQP more generally and does not state those version-specific division details, so use the FC 26 update for the division gate and the in-game screen for current progress.
Where CQP comes from
EA Help says CQP can be earned in Rivals and Squad Battles. Higher Rivals divisions award it faster, but EA’s public pages do not provide a complete current points table for every activity or match result. The exact amount can therefore vary with the live season rules shown in-game. CQP is entry progress; it does not function as the Form value used to pair Champions opponents or as a Finals reward tier.
How to check your qualification progress
- Open Ultimate Team.
- Select Play.
- Open Core Modes.
- Select Champions.
- Read your current CQP balance and the qualification status displayed on the competition screen.
Use that screen for the live threshold and season-specific progress. The public Help article explains what CQP does, but it does not state the exact FC 26 threshold in its general wording. If you are unsure whether you have enough, check the Champions entry screen rather than relying on an old points table or a guide for a previous FC version.

How many matches are in Champions Finals?
EA’s current Champions Help page states that Finals consist of 15 matches. FC 26 also expanded the reward structure from 10 rank tiers to 15. Every win counts toward rewards, with milestone tiers at 12 wins and 14 wins according to the launch update.

Finals progression is separate from Form. Form helps determine who you face during the current competition; your Finals results determine which reward tier you reach. The number of tiers does not mean that every tier has a publicly documented, permanent reward list. EA directs players to the live competition screen for current progress and rewards, so check the in-game display before relying on a particular pack, pick, or other item.
What the 15-match format means
You have a fixed set of 15 Finals matches. Wins count toward reward progression, and the published 12- and 14-win milestones give two clear landmarks in that progression. These milestones are not matchmaking ratings. A player’s tier therefore should not be used as a substitute for Form when explaining an opponent pairing. Check the competition screen for the current tier thresholds and rewards rather than assuming the same item list applies in every season.

The phrase “rank points” can describe several different systems. The useful distinction is what each number is for, where it applies, and how it changes.

EA’s Rivals guide says standard Rivals Divisions 10–1 use Rank as a matchmaking input. In Elite, it says players begin with a default Skill Rating of 500, and ratings of 2200 or above are treated as 2200 for matchmaking. Those are Rivals rules, not Champions rules, so they should not be used to calculate a Champions opponent or Finals reward.
This separation helps answer what “points” mean in a conversation about the mode: CQP helps with access; Form is the win/loss tally used among Champions matchmaking considerations; Finals rank tracks reward progress; and Rivals Rank or Elite Skill Rating belongs to the separate Rivals ladder. They are not interchangeable balances, even though players may casually call each one “rank points.”
Why your opponent’s record may not match yours
Champions Form is described as “similar,” not “identical.” EA does not publish the permitted difference between two players’ Form values. The search also has to respect the Game Data Center and platform pool. When those constraints limit the available opponents, the visible records can differ even though the system is following the published qualitative rule. That explanation follows from EA’s listed inputs; EA does not publish a precise queue-expansion formula.
There is no official public evidence that squad rating, a player’s Division, or a hidden lifetime Champions rating overrides Form. Treat claims that one of those values controls Champions matchmaking as player speculation unless EA adds a rule to its documentation. A visible record difference on its own cannot reveal which combination of location, Form, and platform settings produced a pairing.

“I cannot find a cross-platform opponent.”
- Confirm that cross-play is enabled in the game settings.
- Check that both systems belong to the same EA-listed generation group: PS4 with Xbox One, or PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
- Remember that Switch and Switch 2 are excluded from Champions cross-play.
“I expected Play-Offs after reaching the old requirement.”
Play-Offs are not the FC 26 qualification route. Open the Champions screen and verify your CQP balance and division status instead. Older instructions that tell you to enter Play-Offs describe a previous version’s structure.
“I do not know how many points I need.”
EA’s public pages establish the FC 26 Division 7 earning route and Division 6 automatic qualification once enough points are held, but they do not publish one universal per-activity table in the general Help article. The in-game Champions screen is the authoritative place to see your current balance and progress for the active season.

The confirmed FC 26 figures are 15 Finals matches, 15 rank tiers, and milestones at 12 and 14 wins. The confirmed matchmaking inputs are location, Form, and platform or cross-play settings. The confirmed Form calculation is zero at the start of the current competition, plus one for a win and minus one for a loss.
EA has not publicly specified a numeric Form matching window, a guaranteed record match, queue-expansion behavior, a complete CQP award table, or a permanent reward list for every tier. These details can change with live seasons, so use the competition screen and current EA Help documentation when a decision depends on an exact threshold or reward.
