There is no single measured speed rating for the MSI MAG B550 TOMAHAWK WIFI. MSI publishes interface specifications—among them Wi-Fi 6E, 2.5GbE Ethernet, and PCIe 4.0 support for selected slots—but these describe capabilities, not the speeds you will necessarily see. Your CPU, memory, graphics card, SSD, network equipment, settings, and test conditions determine real performance.
What does “fast” mean for this motherboard?
A motherboard connects components and provides their interfaces; it does not have one overall speed that predicts a PC’s CPU or gaming performance. To assess this board, separate system performance from connection limits: CPU and game results depend on the installed components and configuration, while networking and storage depend on the interfaces and devices in use.
The exact model matters. MSI lists the MAG B550 TOMAHAWK WIFI with AMD’s B550 chipset, AM4 socket, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.2. It is distinct from the MAG B550 TOMAHAWK without Wi-Fi and the MAG B550 TOMAHAWK MAX WIFI. Match the full name when checking specifications, BIOS support, manuals, or benchmarks. MSI’s specifications for the exact Wi-Fi model identify its capabilities.
How fast is its Wi-Fi and wired Ethernet?
Wi-Fi 6E
MSI specifies Wi-Fi 6E with support for 2.4, 5, and 6 GHz bands, 20, 40, and 80 MHz channel bandwidths, MU-MIMO, and 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax. The specification page does not give a measured Mbps result. Actual throughput varies with the router, client device, distance, interference, and configuration. Access to the 6 GHz band also depends on local regulations and Windows support.

2.5GbE Ethernet
The wired network connection uses a Realtek RTL8125B 2.5Gbps LAN controller. That is the controller’s link capability, not a guarantee of a 2.5Gbps internet connection or file transfer. The network on the other end, cabling, service plan, and devices must also support the rate.
What are the PCIe and SSD limits?
Graphics card slot
The primary x16 slot supports PCIe 4.0 or PCIe 3.0, depending on the installed processor. The specification describes the slot’s interface capability; it does not establish a particular graphics card’s gaming performance.

M.2 and SATA storage
The board has two M.2 Key M slots. The CPU-connected M2_1 supports PCIe 4.0/3.0 x4 or SATA, depending on the drive and processor. The chipset-connected M2_2 supports PCIe 3.0 x4. There are also six SATA 6Gb/s ports.

Will it make a CPU or games run faster?
The available evidence does not establish a CPU-performance or gaming-speed rating for the exact MAG B550 TOMAHAWK WIFI. MSI’s specifications describe compatibility and interfaces, not benchmark results. The processor, graphics card, memory configuration, cooling, firmware, software, and game or workload all influence observed performance.
A published B550 roundup reports Cinebench and system-power results for the MAG B550 TOMAHAWK without Wi-Fi. Those results belong to that tested configuration and cannot be treated as measurements of the Wi-Fi model. Tweakers’ roundup identifies the non-Wi-Fi board. No independent, controlled CPU, gaming, storage, or Wi-Fi throughput benchmark for the exact Wi-Fi model was identified in the available sources; that does not prove none exists.

What memory and processors does it support?
MSI lists four DDR4 slots, dual-channel operation, and capacity up to 128 GB. The listed A-XMP overclocked memory limits depend on DIMM rank and how many slots are populated. For example, MSI lists up to 5100 MHz for one single-rank DIMM per channel; other arrangements have lower listed maxima. These are support specifications, not a guarantee that every memory kit will run stably at its rated or listed maximum.

How should you compare its speed with another board?
Use evidence that matches the exact product and intended use. A useful comparison checks the full model name and revision, the processor and BIOS, PCIe generation and lane allocation, M.2 slot behavior, memory configuration, and whether the comparison concerns wired Ethernet or wireless networking. For CPU or gaming claims, look for independent results tested on the same model with the configuration disclosed; interface specifications alone do not create a speed ranking.
