The 7.68TB Kioxia CD9P is the CD9P-R, a read-intensive enterprise SSD designed for data-center systems—not a drop-in desktop M.2 drive. KIOXIA specifies up to 14,800 MB/s sequential read and 7,000 MB/s sequential write for the E3.S model, but those are manufacturer figures, not independent benchmark results. Before buying, confirm your server supports the E3.S form factor, PCIe Gen5 x4, and the selected security configuration.
What the 7.68TB CD9P model is
The product in this review is the KIOXIA CD9P-R E3.S, 7,680 GB read-intensive model. KIOXIA lists two 7,680 GB model codes: KCD9XPJE7T68 for SIE and KCD9DPJE7T68 for SED. Those security configurations are not interchangeable by assumption; confirm the required model with your organization and system vendor.
CD9P-R is the read-intensive family. It should not be confused with CD9P-V, KIOXIA’s separate mixed-use series. CD9P-R E3.S is specified at 1 drive write per day (DWPD); the CD9P-V brief specifies 3 DWPD and lists E3.S capacities of 1,600, 3,200, 6,400, and 12,800 GB, rather than 7,680 GB.

KIOXIA’s 2025 product brief and current product page give the following maximum specifications for the 7,680 GB CD9P-R E3.S. “Up to” is important: these are published ceilings, not results measured in an independent review.

These figures describe different access patterns and block sizes, so they should not be collapsed into a single speed ranking. Real performance in a server depends on the host platform, workload, configuration, and operating conditions. No independent benchmark methodology or exact-SKU test results are established here; measured latency, sustained-write behavior, thermal throttling, and comparative performance therefore cannot be reported as review findings.
Will a 7.68TB E3.S SSD fit your server?
Only if the complete host platform supports it. The drive is an E3.S, 7.5 mm device with a PCIe 5.0 / NVMe 2.0 interface using PCIe Gen5 x4. An E3.S bay label alone does not establish compatibility with a particular chassis, backplane, controller, or server configuration.

- Verify the chassis or storage shelf has a compatible E3.S bay and backplane.
- Check host PCIe lane and NVMe support, and whether the platform’s firmware qualifies this exact drive.
- Confirm cooling and power capacity for the drive in the intended bay and workload.
- Choose the required SIE or SED model code and confirm that its security configuration meets procurement requirements.
- Check the applicable warranty terms and actual regional availability with the vendor or integrator.
KIOXIA lists support for OCP Datacenter NVMe SSD Specification v2.5 with the qualification “not all requirements.” That wording does not establish full OCP conformance, and the reviewed product information does not provide a universal server compatibility list.

For CD9P-R E3.S, KIOXIA specifies 1 DWPD. That workload class is relevant when assessing write-heavy databases or other applications: compare the expected daily writes with the drive’s endurance rating and the system’s service-life requirements.

The power, temperature, MTTF, and warranty figures are manufacturer-published specifications, not measurements or reliability observations from use. Check warranty coverage and conditions for the relevant market and procurement channel.
Security and data protection
The CD9P-R brief lists power-loss protection and end-to-end data protection. It identifies SIE and SED security options; the 7,680 GB model codes distinguish those configurations. Confirm the precise feature set and security requirements for the ordered model rather than treating the two codes as identical.

What workloads does KIOXIA target?
KIOXIA positions the R series for scale-out and cloud applications, and names hyperscale, IoT and big-data analytics, online transaction processing, streaming media and content delivery networks, and virtualized environments. These are manufacturer-identified application areas, not independently validated results for each workload. The streaming reference concerns data-center storage infrastructure, not a consumer streaming service.

How to judge it against alternatives
The published specifications make the CD9P-R a candidate for systems that need high-capacity E3.S storage and prioritize reads. They do not, by themselves, establish value or superiority. A useful comparison should match the workload and platform rather than compare headline numbers alone.

- Match sequential and random figures by block size and workload, and distinguish vendor maximums from independently measured results.
- Compare capacity using the same units and usable-capacity convention.
- Check form factor, host qualification, cooling, power, security configuration, and warranty.
- Obtain current pricing and supply information for the exact model code; neither is established by the cited product specifications.
CD9P-V is a useful same-family workload-class contrast because KIOXIA describes it as mixed-use and specifies 3 DWPD. Its listed E3.S capacities do not include 7,680 GB, so it is not a same-capacity alternative in the cited lineup.
Verdict
The KIOXIA CD9P-R 7,680 GB E3.S is a data-center read-intensive SSD with strong vendor-published Gen5 performance ceilings, 1 DWPD endurance, and selectable SIE or SED configurations. It is worth considering when the server is built for E3.S and its write workload, security requirements, cooling, and host qualification line up. The specifications support a product analysis, not a hands-on performance verdict: independent results for this exact SKU are not established here.
