India’s digital agriculture system is a set of connected registries, benefit portals, market tools and advisory channels—not one universal app. Use the service that matches the task: check the state-run Farmer Registry for a Farmer ID, use the official PM-KISAN portal for registration and payment status, join e-NAM through a participating APMC to sell produce, and use mKisan or local extension channels for advisories. State departments, APMCs and authorised support centres still control important approval and documentation steps, so local instructions matter.
Choose the service by the job you need to do
Digital agriculture services work as different layers. AgriStack is the infrastructure and registry layer. PM-KISAN is a central benefit scheme. e-NAM supports participation in agricultural markets. mKisan distributes advisory messages. Treating them as competing apps creates confusion: a Farmer ID does not automatically enrol you in PM-KISAN, and registering for PM-KISAN does not give you an e-NAM trading account.

AgriStack and the Farmer ID
What AgriStack contains
The Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare describes AgriStack as digital infrastructure made up of a Farmer Registry, Geo-Referenced Village Maps and a Crop Sown Registry. States and union territories maintain these foundational registries. The Farmer Registry is being connected to services such as agricultural credit, crop insurance, weather advisories and procurement linked to minimum support prices.

As of 3 August 2026, the Ministry reported more than 10.31 crore Farmer IDs nationally. The same 2026 update reported more than 31.3 crore plots surveyed in 648 districts through the Rabi 2025–26 Digital Crop Survey. These are administrative coverage figures; they do not measure a farmer’s income, satisfaction or success in obtaining a benefit.

What a Farmer ID does—and does not do
The Ministry’s description says, “Farmer ID is created by synchronizing farmers’ details with their digitized land records.” In practical terms, the identifier is intended to help connect a person’s verified details with multiple agriculture services, reducing the need to submit the same information repeatedly. The registry also has provision to onboard landholding farmers and cultivators such as tenants and sharecroppers.
Provision is not the same as universal availability. Every state may not have completed onboarding for every cultivator category, and a Farmer ID is not a guarantee of eligibility for PM-KISAN, insurance, credit or procurement. Each scheme keeps its own rules and validation process.
How to seek a Farmer ID
There is no single national enrollment screen with identical steps in every state. Start with your state agriculture department’s official instructions. The local process may use a state registry, a registration camp or an authorised assisted-access point. Keep your land or cultivation information consistent with the digitised records that the state will check, and read the consent shown on the particular form before submitting data.
- Find the state route. Use the agriculture department of your state or union territory to identify its Farmer Registry portal, camp schedule or designated centre.
- Prepare the information requested locally. The registry is designed to synchronise farmer details with digitised land records. If your name, parcel or cultivation status is not reflected correctly, ask the land-record or agriculture office which correction route applies.
- Submit and review consent. AgriStack materials describe consent-based collection and controlled sharing with authorised entities for specific purposes. The consent wording and screen sequence can differ by state.
- Save the acknowledgement or identifier. Keep any receipt, reference number or Farmer ID message so a support worker can trace the request.
Help when you cannot complete the process online
The Ministry identifies Farmer-Producer Organisations (FPOs), KrishiSakhis, Common Service Centres (CSCs) and state registration camps as support channels. They are particularly useful if you do not have a smartphone, need biometric assistance or are unsure which state form applies. Ask the operator to show the official service name, verify the mobile number and review the data and consent details before authorising submission. Do not assume that an unauthorised person can promise a Farmer ID or scheme approval.

Use PM-KISAN for registration, e-KYC and status checks
What the scheme provides
PM-KISAN is a Central Sector scheme. The National Informatics Centre’s 2026 project description states a benefit of ₹6,000 per year in three equal instalments for eligible landholding farmer families. The amount describes the scheme design, not an assurance that every applicant qualifies or that a payment will arrive on a particular date.
Register or check an existing record
Use the official PM-KISAN portal or its mobile app. The portal’s Farmers Corner includes New Farmer Registration, Know Your Status, e-KYC, self-registration status, beneficiary information and grievance support.
- Open New Farmer Registration when you are applying for the first time. Follow the identity and land details requested by the form.
- Authenticate as offered. The PM-KISAN system supports Aadhaar authentication and e-KYC through OTP; the NIC project description also records biometric e-KYC as an available route.
- Submit for verification. States validate eligibility and records before the payment process moves through the relevant government and banking infrastructure.
- Use Know Your Status or the app’s status tools to see the current record instead of submitting duplicate applications.
- Complete e-KYC if you are a registered farmer. The live portal states that e-KYC is mandatory for registered farmers.
- Escalate unresolved problems. Use the portal’s grievance management, chatbot or helpline options and keep the registration or status reference available.
A Farmer ID can support connections between services, but it does not replace PM-KISAN’s eligibility checks. A pending record may reflect state validation or a record mismatch rather than a technical failure. Do not treat a submission confirmation as approval, and do not rely on an advertised payment date unless the official portal publishes it.

Sell through e-NAM when your mandi participates
Register with the correct APMC
e-NAM registration is tied to an Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC). Confirm that the mandi where you intend to sell participates and ask its office which local documents or procedures it requires.

- Choose Farmer as the registration type in the e-NAM registration guidance.
- Select the relevant APMC. Selecting the wrong market can delay approval or leave you connected to a mandi you cannot use.
- Provide a correct email address and the other requested details.
- Complete KYC and submit the application to the APMC.
- Wait for APMC approval. The guidance says permanent credentials are issued after approval, so temporary submission is not the same as an active trading account.
Follow a lot and decide on the auction result
The official e-NAM farmer module lets you register from the app’s home-page option. After market staff create the relevant lot, the app provides a traceable workflow:
- My Lots: view your current lots.
- My Lots History: review the previous seven days.
- Lot tracking: follow movement from gate entry through gate exit.
- Auction decision: after bidding, review the winning auction price and choose to accept or reject it.
The accept-or-reject choice is important: an online auction does not mean you are forced to accept the winning bid. Ask the APMC what happens operationally after either choice, including weighing, payment and removal procedures, because those details are handled locally.
Get farming advice by SMS and extension channels
What mKisan sends
The Government Services Portal describes mKisan as a service for personalised agricultural advisories by SMS. Messages can be tailored to language, location and preferred practices and can cover weather, crops, pest control and government schemes. AgriStack is also being integrated with weather-advisory services.

Availability and language can differ by state. Confirm the subscription or registration route with an official agriculture or extension office, and treat a message as guidance for the stated location and crop—not as a universal prescription. For a pest, weather or input decision with significant financial consequences, verify the recommendation with a local agriculture officer or other authorised extension source.

A practical workflow for a farmer
Start with identity and records
If you expect to use several government agriculture services, first ask your state about the Farmer Registry and the accuracy of your digitised land or cultivation record. Resolve obvious record discrepancies through the state’s prescribed channel before assuming that another portal will correct them automatically.
Match each task to its own portal
Use PM-KISAN for its own registration, e-KYC and status tools; use e-NAM for a participating APMC and market lot; use mKisan or extension services for advisories. Record each service’s acknowledgement separately. A single mobile number or Farmer ID does not merge the approval processes.
Use assisted access early when needed
A CSC, FPO, KrishiSakhi or state camp can help with navigation and, where offered, biometric or assisted submission. Take the acknowledgement with you when returning for a status query. Never hand over one-time passwords or approve a consent screen you have not read.
Privacy, consent and safe use
Official AgriStack materials describe consent for data collection and authorised sharing for specific purposes. A 7 August 2026 Ministry release states that information is encrypted so that only authorised systems can read it, and says the State Farmer Registry is built in a federated manner, meaning ownership of the data is with the respective states. These are statements about the government’s system design, not an absolute guarantee that every interface or service is risk-free.

- Use the state agriculture department, official PM-KISAN portal or official e-NAM channel rather than an unverified link.
- Check the spelling of your name, land details, mobile number and bank-related information before submission.
- Keep OTPs, biometric prompts and passwords private; support staff should not ask you to disclose an OTP for their own use.
- Save receipts and screenshots showing the service, date and reference number.
- Ask what data is being collected, why it is needed and which authorised service will receive it before giving consent.
Common problems and the right escalation point
The Farmer Registry cannot match your land details
Because Farmer ID creation is synchronised with digitised land records, a mismatch may need correction in the state land or agriculture record rather than repeated submissions. Ask the state department or an authorised CSC, FPO, KrishiSakhi or registration camp which office owns the correction.
PM-KISAN shows a pending or unsuccessful status
Check Know Your Status and the e-KYC indicator first. If the record remains unresolved, use PM-KISAN grievance support or the helpline and provide the reference number. The portal cannot bypass state eligibility validation, so a pending state check may require local follow-up.
Your APMC is missing from e-NAM
Ask the mandi whether it is participating and whether another nearby participating APMC is the correct choice. Do not select an unrelated APMC merely to complete the form; approval and lot handling are tied to the selected market.
You are not receiving advisories
Confirm that the mKisan or extension service covers your location, crop and preferred language. If SMS delivery or registration is unclear, contact the local agriculture or extension office rather than relying on forwarded messages whose source cannot be verified.
What the latest figures mean
The Ministry reported more than 10.31 crore Farmer IDs as of 3 August 2026. An earlier Ministry update reported more than 9.20 crore IDs as of 19 March 2026; the later August snapshot is the better figure for describing national scale. The Rabi 2025–26 Digital Crop Survey had surveyed more than 31.3 crore plots in 648 districts. Neither count proves that every farmer in those areas can use every integrated service, because registries, schemes and market systems have separate onboarding and validation rules.
