Yes—Fairbuds 2 are designed so you can replace the parts most likely to wear out or get lost instead of discarding the entire set. Fairphone identifies seven user-replaceable spare-part types, including the left or right earbud, earbud battery kit, silicone rings, eartips, charging-case core, case shell and case battery. The company says battery swaps are tool-free and glue-free, while other modules can be opened in seconds with a screwdriver and your fingers.
That makes Fairbuds 2 different from conventional sealed true-wireless earbuds: a worn battery, damaged case or single missing earbud can be addressed with a component purchase. The practical limits are equally important—Fairphone’s published “upgrades” are replacement and refresh parts, not a promise of higher-capacity batteries or a new radio system.
What “modular” means on Fairbuds 2
True-wireless earbuds usually become disposable when one tiny battery loses capacity, a charging case breaks or one earbud disappears. Fairphone’s Fairbuds 2 take the opposite approach. The enclosure is intended to come apart, and the parts that commonly fail are sold separately.

Fairphone says users can take the product apart in seconds with a screwdriver and their fingers. For batteries specifically, its US product FAQ describes a tool-free, glue-free swap in both earbuds and the case. That does not mean every repair is performed without any tool; the battery claim is tool-free, while opening other modules may involve the screwdriver.
Which Fairbuds 2 parts can you replace?
Individual earbuds
If the left or right earbud is lost or damaged, Fairphone documents a single-earbud replacement option. You do not have to buy a complete new pair merely because one side is missing. Fairphone’s published information does not state a retail price for an individual earbud, so availability and cost should be checked for your country before ordering.
Earbud batteries
Both earbud batteries are replaceable. Fairphone’s battery-kit listing gives a price of €9.95 for a kit containing two batteries and two silicone rings. The company supplies two batteries because the originals commonly reach the end of their useful life at roughly the same time. The kit is for Fairbuds and is not intended for Fairbuds XL.

Silicone rings and eartips are separate refresh parts. Replacing them can restore fit or comfort without replacing electronic components. The battery kit already includes two silicone rings, while Fairphone also lists silicone rings and eartips as spare-part categories.
Charging-case core and shell
The charging case is split into an inner or core assembly and an outer shell. Fairphone documents a €29.95 charging-case core. A replaceable shell means cosmetic or external case damage does not automatically condemn the electronics inside.

Charging-case battery
The case battery is replaceable independently of the earbuds. Fairphone’s Fairbuds 2 FAQ lists the replacement battery at €12.95. This is important because a case that no longer holds a charge can otherwise make otherwise healthy earbuds unusable away from a charger.
How battery replacement works
Battery aging is the most predictable failure mode for wireless earbuds. Lithium-ion cells lose capacity through charge cycles and time, so even a well-treated pair eventually offers less listening time. On Fairbuds 2, the documented repair path is to open the earbud or case and exchange the battery module rather than discard the complete product.
Fairphone’s published instructions characterize the battery swap as tool-free and glue-free. The broader product description says the device can be taken apart in seconds using a screwdriver and fingers. Those statements describe the design intent, not a guaranteed time for every user or every repair condition. Work carefully and use the part intended for Fairbuds 2; the battery-kit page explicitly excludes Fairbuds XL.
The €9.95 earbud kit includes two batteries and two silicone rings. Replacing both batteries together follows Fairphone’s reasoning that the original cells commonly deplete at similar times. If the case is the problem, the separately listed €12.95 case battery addresses that failure without buying new earbuds.
Repair versus upgrade: what you actually gain
Fairbuds 2 make repair and refresh easier, but “upgrade” needs a precise definition. The documented physical changes are replacement modules: fresher batteries, new rings or eartips, a new shell, a new case core or a replacement earbud. These can restore battery life, fit, appearance or functionality after damage.

The available information does not promise a future higher-capacity battery, a faster wireless system, a new radio module or cross-generation hardware compatibility. A replacement battery should therefore be treated as a like-for-like service part, not as a performance upgrade beyond restoring the original design’s capability.

Fairphone has discussed firmware updates and potential new features through its companion app. Those are software possibilities, not a guaranteed hardware-upgrade roadmap. A future app feature could add capability without changing the physical modules, but no specific feature, date or compatibility promise is established here.

Playback figures are maximum claims, not a guarantee of the time every listener will obtain. ANC status matters: the eight-hour earbud figure is specified with ANC off, and the 40-hour figure includes recharges from the case.

These are the documented euro prices in Fairphone’s published material. Regional taxes, shipping, stock and currency conversion can change what a buyer actually pays. A part being listed does not guarantee that it is in stock in every market.
How Fairbuds 2 compare with sealed wireless earbuds

“No user-replaceable” in this table means the cited manufacturer product information did not list user-replaceable parts or batteries; it is not a laboratory teardown result. Fairbuds 2’s distinction is that Fairphone explicitly sells and documents the modules needed for common repairs.
Warranty, parts availability and the 2030 aim
Fairphone states warranty coverage of up to three years under its stated conditions. Treat the conditions and any registration requirement as part of the warranty, rather than assuming every purchase automatically receives the maximum term.
Fairphone also says it aims to support Fairbuds spare parts until the end of 2030. That is a company aim, not a guarantee that every component will remain continuously stocked in every country. Availability can vary by market, and a repair decision made several years from now may depend on the specific part being listed and available at that time.
The 2030 horizon is still useful when estimating ownership risk: it gives buyers a stated target for continued parts support instead of an indefinite assumption. Keep the original purchase information and check the local spare-parts store before starting a repair.
Choosing the right repair path
If one earbud is missing
Look for the separately documented left or right replacement earbud. Buying one component avoids paying for a second earbud you already own, although the individual-earbud price and local stock are not established in the published information summarized here.

If listening time has fallen
For earbuds that no longer last as long, the €9.95 two-battery kit is the documented path. Because it contains two batteries, it is suited to replacing both original earbud cells together. For a case that drains quickly or no longer recharges the earbuds, the €12.95 case-battery option is the relevant module.
If the case is cracked or damaged
Separate case-core and outer-shell parts let you match the replacement to the failure. A damaged exterior points to the shell; an internal charging or electronics problem may require the core. The published information does not provide a diagnostic flowchart, so do not order by appearance alone if the fault is electrical.
If comfort or fit has changed
Replace the eartips or silicone rings rather than the complete earbuds. These are consumable fit components and are independent of the battery and case repairs.
Limits and pitfalls to understand before opening the set
- Seven is a part-type count. Fairphone’s headline number does not mean seven separate repairs cover every internal component.
- Replacement is not automatically a performance upgrade. The documented modules restore or refresh the existing design; no higher-capacity battery or new radio module is promised.
- Compatibility matters. The €9.95 battery kit is identified for Fairbuds, not Fairbuds XL.
- Prices and stock are regional. Euro prices may not be the checkout price in another country, and the 2030 support aim does not guarantee inventory.
- Runtime claims have conditions. Up to eight hours is specified with ANC off, while up to 40 hours includes the charging case.
- Warranty terms still apply. The maximum three-year coverage is subject to Fairphone’s stated conditions and any required registration.
Is Fairbuds 2 repairability worth choosing?
For someone who normally replaces wireless earbuds when a battery fades, the modular design changes the ownership calculation. A €9.95 two-cell kit or €12.95 case battery can address the most predictable aging problem, and a single replacement earbud can solve loss without duplicating the complete set. Replaceable rings, eartips and shells also reduce the number of failures that force a full replacement.
The trade-off is that modularity does not guarantee indefinite life, universal part availability or new hardware capabilities. Fairbuds 2 still depend on Fairphone continuing to sell the required module in your market, and the published 2030 date is an aim. Within those limits, the design offers a concrete repair route that sealed earbuds generally do not document.
