Epic Games Store giveaway games are yours to keep after you claim them to your Epic account during the offer window. Epic says a weekly free game is typically available for seven days, starting Thursday at 8 a.m. Pacific Time, and that a claimed game remains in your library permanently—even if you do not download it right away. You need an Epic account with two-factor authentication enabled to claim the weekly offer. A free trial or temporary beta build is different: access to those can end.
How an Epic Games Store giveaway works
Epic’s Free Games page lists the games currently offered at no cost and describes the storefront’s promotions as a new free game each week. The offer is tied to a time-limited promotion: you must complete the claim while that game is still listed as free. Viewing the page or downloading a game is not the same thing as claiming it to your account.
Epic Player Support describes the weekly offer as starting Thursday at 8 a.m. Pacific Time and remaining available for seven days. Treat that as the stated schedule for the weekly promotion, not a guarantee that every offer will follow that timing forever. The titles and promotion details rotate, and Epic directs users to its live page for current offers.
- Check the live offer. Open the Epic Games Store Free Games page and confirm which game is currently being offered and when the promotion ends.
- Sign in to the account you want to keep the game on. Check the account before claiming, especially if you use more than one Epic account or sometimes sign in through a linked console account.
- Enable two-factor authentication. Epic’s weekly-free-game support guidance says an Epic account with two-factor authentication enabled is required to claim the offer.
- Complete the claim while it is active. Follow the current offer’s on-screen claim flow. Do not assume that leaving the game on the offer page, or intending to download it later, adds it to your library.
- Verify the entitlement in the account library. Once the claim has completed, the game is associated with that Epic account. You do not need to download it during the promotion window.
Epic’s weekly-free-game support article gives the seven-day window and says the game is yours permanently once claimed. The Epic Games Store FAQ likewise says a claimed free game stays in your library even after it is no longer free to new customers.

Do claimed giveaway games expire?
According to Epic, a properly claimed giveaway does not expire from your account simply because the free promotion ends. The offer window controls when you can add the game to your account; it does not set a deadline for downloading or starting a game you already claimed. Epic’s support wording is direct: “Once claimed, the game is yours permanently – even if you don’t download it right away.”
“Permanent” here describes the claimed game’s continued presence as an account-library entitlement under Epic’s stated policy. It should not be read as a promise that every online service, multiplayer server, feature, or method of access for that game will operate forever. Epic’s statements establish the library entitlement, not perpetual availability of a game’s online infrastructure. You also need access to the Epic account on which the claim was made.

There is no need to keep the game installed to preserve the claim. If you claim during the promotion and uninstall it, or wait to install it, Epic says it remains in your library. When you want to play, sign into the account that claimed it and check the library.

The label and terms of the offer matter. A free game giveaway gives the account a lasting library entitlement when claimed during the promotion. A trial grants access only for the trial period, while certain beta or press builds may be temporary versions rather than permanent game entitlements. Seeing a game at no cost does not by itself mean you have claimed the full game permanently.

Epic’s FAQ explains that a trial lets you download and play a trial version before deciding whether to purchase, but “you can no longer access the game when the trial period ends.” That is a different arrangement from claiming a giveaway. If you are unsure which type you used, look at the offer’s description or the terms shown when you accessed it rather than assuming every free download is a permanent claim.
What if you missed the claim window?
If the promotion has ended and you did not complete the claim, you cannot claim that offer for free under the expired promotion. Epic’s support answer to this situation advises watching for future promotions and special offers; it does not guarantee that a missed game will be offered again. A game appearing in a past giveaway is not an ongoing entitlement for accounts that never claimed it.

Check the live Free Games page for whatever is available now. If you are interested in a specific title, do not rely on a remembered weekly schedule as a substitute for checking the active offer and its displayed end time. Epic’s support guidance describes a seven-day weekly window, but promotion schedules and individual offers can change.
How to troubleshoot a game that seems missing
Epic’s missing-games guidance identifies the account used to claim the game as an important first check. Multiple sign-in methods or accounts can make it easy to open a different library from the one that received the entitlement. Work through these checks in order:

- Check the signed-in Epic account. Compare the account currently open with the one you used when claiming the game. Epic notes that users may have multiple accounts, including separate Epic credentials and console-linked sign-ins. Switching sign-in methods can lead to a different account or library.
- Confirm what kind of free access you had. If it was a trial, Epic says access ends when the trial ends. A beta or press build may also be temporary. Neither is equivalent to a full giveaway claim that was added to your account.
- Establish whether the claim was completed during the offer. The game must have been claimed while its promotion was active. Merely seeing it listed as free, or intending to claim it later, does not establish that it was added to your library.
- Use Epic’s missing-games support route if the facts still do not fit. If you completed a giveaway claim on the account you are checking and the game still does not appear, follow the steps in Epic’s support guidance for missing or unexpected library games.
Do not treat a missing item as proof that the giveaway expired. First distinguish between an account mismatch, a temporary access type, and a claim that may not have completed. Epic’s guidance says previously claimed free-promotion games remain in the library permanently; it separately identifies signing into the wrong account as a reason a game may appear to be missing.
What the seven-day schedule means in practice
Epic Player Support’s weekly schedule—Thursday at 8 a.m. PT, with seven days to claim—is useful for knowing when to check, but the live offer page is the practical authority for a specific game. The support page does not promise a particular future title, and a general weekly pattern does not establish the end time for every possible special promotion. Look at the current listing instead of extrapolating beyond the offer shown there.
Pacific Time changes between standard and daylight time over the year. If you are outside that time zone, convert the posted start time for your own location and account for the date; do not assume “Thursday at 8 a.m. PT” means the same local clock time year-round. The live page can help you confirm the offer currently available, but the schedule cited by Epic is expressed in Pacific Time.

The most important distinction is between claiming and downloading. Claiming associates the entitlement with your account; downloading installs the game on a device. Epic says you can delay the download and still retain a claimed giveaway. The promotion deadline applies to the first action, not to when you install or begin playing.
