Ember & Blade progress is not guaranteed to survive development updates. The developers have already reset saves for structural changes, and the official demo listing says demo progress will not carry into the full game. Before an update or troubleshooting, copy your local save folder somewhere safe; deleting that folder is the documented complete-reset method.
The game is still listed as unreleased on Steam, with a planned January 7, 2027 date. A permanent promise that every future Early Access save will survive updates or the eventual 1.0 launch has not been published, so treat any progress made before release as potentially temporary.
What is confirmed about Ember & Blade saves
There are three separate progress questions, and they have different answers:

- Demo to full game: No. The Steam demo warning explicitly says, “Progress in this demo does not carry over to the full game.” Demo unlocks and meta-progression should therefore be treated as disposable.
- Update to update: Sometimes, but not always. Patch notes document fixes intended to preserve or repair saves, while a structural update explicitly reset previous progress.
- Early Access to version 1.0: Unconfirmed. The available roadmap describes an Early Access period followed by a full launch, but it does not promise that every Early Access save will remain usable through that transition.
These statements are compatible: the team can support ordinary patches while still wiping progress when the underlying save format or game systems change.

Does the demo progress carry over?
No. The official Steam demo listing carries a direct warning that progress in the demo does not carry over to the full game. That applies to both ordinary unlocks and longer-term or meta-progression; you should not spend time in the demo expecting those accomplishments to become a head start in the eventual release.
A demo save can still be useful for learning controls, testing performance, and deciding whether the game suits you. It should not be treated as a persistent account entitlement. When the full game becomes available, plan to begin its progression from the beginning unless a newer announcement says otherwise.
Can an update wipe an existing save?
Yes. The developers have already used a progress reset for structural work. In a late-February update announcement, the team wrote: “Previous progress data will be reset with this update. The structural changes require it.” It also explained, “We’d rather reset now than carry forward unstable foundations.”

That announcement is evidence of a real, intentional wipe—not a user error or a corrupted installation. A structural change can alter item IDs, progression trees, save schemas, world data, or other assumptions that make an old save unsafe to load. Even if a patch normally preserves progress, a future overhaul may require the same decision.

Patch notes also show the opposite case: the team has repaired migration and synchronization problems rather than wiping everyone. Preservation is therefore possible, but it is not a blanket policy. Read the notes for each major update and back up your files before launching the new build.
What the patch notes say about save reliability
Reported fixes cover several different failure modes. They show active maintenance of the save system, but they do not guarantee that future structural updates will be non-destructive.

In practical terms, these notes are good news for routine reliability and a warning against assuming permanence. A fixed bug can return in a different form, and a planned system rewrite can be intentionally incompatible with old data.

A Demo 2.0 notice described a crash or forced-exit problem involving the Arcana system. Its temporary workaround was to delete the entire save folder. The notice states: “Deleting the entire save folder will reset all game progress.” The patched build was distributed on Steam and the Epic Games Store, with a fix patch being prepared at the time.

This is a destructive troubleshooting step, not a routine way to remove one character, slot, or quest. If you encounter a similar instruction in a future notice, first close the game and make a copy of the folder. Only then should you follow the deletion step, and only if you accept losing every local save that is not backed up.
Where Ember & Blade stores local saves
The documented locations differ by operating system. Replace nothing inside the path; open it exactly as a folder location on the corresponding platform.

Opening the Windows location
- Press
Windows+Rto open the Run dialog. - Paste
%USERPROFILE%AppDataLocalLowLinegamesEmberAndBlade. - Press Enter. If the folder exists, copy it before changing or deleting anything.
Opening the macOS location
- In Finder, choose Go and then Go to Folder….
- Enter
~/Library/Application Support/Linegames/EmberAndBladeand press Return. - Copy the folder to another drive or a clearly named backup directory before troubleshooting.
If the path is absent, do not create replacement files by guessing. The game may not have written a save on that account or installation yet.

A backup is the simplest protection against an intentional wipe, an overwrite, a failed migration, or a corrupted local file. Use a copy rather than moving the original.

- Exit Ember & Blade completely. Do not leave it running in the background.
- Wait for the platform’s cloud activity to finish if synchronization is enabled.
- Open the platform-specific folder above.
- Copy the entire
EmberAndBladefolder to another location, such as an external drive or a dated folder in your documents. - Name the copy with the game version or update date, for example
EmberAndBlade-backup-before-update. - Install the update and launch the game normally. Keep the backup unchanged until you have confirmed that your saves and unlocks load correctly.
Keep more than one dated backup if you are testing unstable builds. A single copy can be overwritten or become unusable if it was made after the problem occurred.
How to perform the documented full reset
The official reset method is deleting the entire save folder. It removes all local progress, not just the currently selected slot.
- Close the game and make a backup using the procedure above.
- Open the Windows or macOS save location for your platform.
- Confirm that the folder belongs to Ember & Blade before deleting it.
- Delete the complete
EmberAndBladefolder. - Start the game. It should create a new, empty save location when it next writes progress.
There is no documented selective rollback in the supplied notices. If you only want to replay one section, do not delete the folder unless you are prepared to lose every local save. To attempt a restore, close the game, remove the newly created folder, and copy back a known-good backup. Compatibility with a newer build is not guaranteed, so keep the newer folder separately rather than discarding it.
Cloud synchronization: what to watch for
Patch notes report that newly created saves once failed to synchronize to other PCs through cloud storage, and that the issue was fixed. This means cloud storage should not be your only backup, particularly around a major update.

- After saving, remain in the game long enough for the platform to finish uploading.
- Close the game normally instead of forcing it to quit.
- Before playing on another computer, verify that the platform shows the latest save has synchronized.
- If two computers show different progress, stop launching the game repeatedly. Preserve the local folders from both machines before choosing which copy to keep.
Cloud synchronization can replicate a bad or empty state as easily as a good one. A manually dated copy gives you a recovery point outside that synchronization process.
What “Early Access save carry-over” means here
The current Steam listing shows Ember & Blade as not yet available and gives a planned January 7, 2027 release date. Earlier roadmap material described Early Access followed by a later full launch, but the published information does not establish a policy that every Early Access save will survive every patch or the 1.0 transition.
Until the developers make a direct, current promise, use this rule: ordinary fixes may preserve your save, structural updates may reset it, and the eventual full release may use a different format. A backup can protect against local mistakes; it cannot force an incompatible future build to accept old data.
Should you play now or wait?
The right choice depends on how much value you place on experimentation versus permanent progression.

Playing now is reasonable if you regard each build as a test version and will not be frustrated by starting over. Waiting is safer if your enjoyment depends on preserving a single long-term progression record.
Practical troubleshooting checklist
- Progress disappeared after an update: Check the update notes for an announced structural reset before assuming your files are corrupted.
- Another computer shows older progress: Stop launching the game, preserve both local folders, and verify which cloud copy is current.
- A new game replaced an old one: Use the newest build, then look for a dated local backup. The overwrite issue has been addressed, but an earlier overwritten file may not be recoverable without a copy.
- The game crashes around Arcana: Look for a current fix notice first. Deleting the save folder is a complete reset and should be attempted only after backing up.
- A slot appears selected incorrectly: Do not confirm deletion until the highlighted slot is unmistakable. A reported bug that could delete the most recently played save was fixed, but caution remains appropriate.
- You want a clean start: Use the full-folder deletion procedure, not ad-hoc removal of individual files whose purpose is undocumented.
The safe expectation
Ember & Blade’s save system is being actively repaired, including migration, cloud synchronization, overwrite protection, and corrupted-save recovery. Those fixes make routine play more reliable, but they do not change the central risk: the developers have intentionally reset progress for structural work, and demo progress is explicitly excluded from the full game.
Keep a dated copy of the correct platform folder, read each major patch notice, and treat all pre-release progression as conditional until a current developer announcement guarantees otherwise.
