Dragon’s Dogma 2’s Pawn system pairs your persistent Main Pawn with up to two hired support Pawns. You shape how your Main Pawn tends to act, direct the group with context-sensitive commands, and can send your Pawn beyond the Rift on a task for another player. Online sharing is asynchronous: you can hire other players’ Pawns and they can hire yours, but there is no online co-op.
What are Main Pawns and support Pawns?
Your Main Pawn is the companion you create and keep throughout your adventure. Support Pawns are hired party members who fill out the group. A party can contain up to four characters, including the Arisen; you can also play offline with a full party, so live online play is not required.
Choose Pawns to complement the Arisen’s vocation and cover the party’s needs. Capcom’s manual describes Fighters as close-range sword-and-shield combatants, Mages as sources of healing, enchantments, and ranged magic, Archers as ranged attackers, and Thieves as fast close-combat specialists. An inclination guides tendencies, including how a Pawn behaves, speaks, and is likely to act. It is not a guaranteed script or a direct damage setting, and it does not change a Pawn’s loyalty: Capcom says Pawns remain faithful to the Arisen regardless of inclination. Capcom’s manual explains inclinations.

You can change your Main Pawn’s inclination with an Art of Metamorphosis from the Pawn Guild, or by speaking to the Pawn at a campsite while carrying the relevant Rift Incense. Capcom’s FAQ covers changing an inclination.
What do Pawn commands do?
Commands are situational directions, not a complete manual override of Pawn behavior. Their effects change with context, so observe how Pawns respond in combat and while exploring. Capcom’s command guide describes these actions:

How do Pawn quests work?
A Pawn quest is a task you assign to your Main Pawn at a Riftstone for another Arisen to complete after hiring it. You choose a reward, such as specific items or gold, and can ask the other player to retrieve an item. Capcom presents quests as a way to obtain items and progress Pawn badges; neither hiring nor task completion is guaranteed.

- At a Riftstone, set a task for your Main Pawn.
- Select the reward for the Arisen who hires the Pawn. Items are taken from your inventory, while gold is deducted from your funds.
- Check the current undertaking in the Pawn section of the Pause Menu’s Status screen.

What online features are available—and what is not?
Online features let you hire Pawns shared by friends or other players, make your Main Pawn available to be hired and rated, and leave a gift for a support Pawn when dismissing it. The game does not support online multiplayer: Pawn sharing is asynchronous, not co-op. Pawns can only be hired by players on the same platform, so this is not cross-platform hiring. Capcom’s FAQ lists the online features and platform restriction.
How to make your Main Pawn available
- Connect to the network. If you began playing offline, check System > Options > Network and turn on Network Features.
- Rest at an inn while connected. This uploads your Main Pawn’s information.
- Allow time for the updated information to appear to other players; Capcom notes that the reflection may not be immediate.
Network services and availability may change; Capcom’s FAQ is the current reference for these settings and online limits.

What happens when a Pawn is downed?
At zero Health, a Pawn becomes immobile and cannot recover without help. Approach and touch the Pawn to revive it; if multiple Pawns are immobile nearby, they can be revived together. A revived Pawn’s maximum Health is set to the Arisen’s remaining Health at the time. If you leave an immobile Pawn too long, it is forfeited and removed from the party. If that happens to your Main Pawn, touch a Riftstone to bring it back. Capcom’s manual explains revival and forfeiture.
