In Torchlight: Infinite, combat and Netherrealm activities provide equipment and resources; you then turn those rewards into build power through gear choices and crafting. Seasonal progression adds a temporary activity, reward stream, or character-building layer on top of that loop. Because those systems change between updates, always identify the season and region before following a seasonal guide.
The basic loot-to-build loop
Torchlight: Infinite is built around a repeated cycle: fight, collect, evaluate, improve, and return to harder content. The official store description presents builds, loot, combat, and seasonal content as the game’s central pillars. In practice, that means a drop is valuable for what it enables in your build, not simply because it has a higher item level or a rarer color.
1. Fight enemies and complete activities
Enemies and endgame activities are the source of the items and materials that drive progression. Early combat teaches your character’s skills and equipment needs; later, Netherrealm content becomes the principal setting for challenging runs, loot collection, and season-specific encounters. The exact enemies, rewards, and available activities depend on the current update.

2. Collect equipment and resources
Runs can produce usable equipment as well as resources for improving or replacing it. Not every drop belongs in your final setup. A practical approach is to keep items that improve the attributes, skill interactions, defenses, or damage pattern your build is actually using, while treating the rest as material for later upgrades or as clutter to hide with a filter.

3. Turn drops into a coherent build
Character power comes from how skills, equipment, and other build choices interact. A theoretically stronger item can be a downgrade if replacing it breaks an important combination or leaves a defensive gap. Compare a potential upgrade against the complete setup rather than judging one number in isolation.
4. Craft and refine
Crafting is the bridge between random loot and a deliberate build. You use resources from play to improve equipment or pursue more suitable properties. The available material does not establish a complete list of recipes, item tiers, or optimal crafting sequences, so treat any recipe list as version-specific and confirm it in the current game before spending scarce resources.
Why Netherrealm matters
Netherrealm is repeatedly identified in official descriptions as a central endgame environment. It is where players run content for drops and where seasonal mechanics are often layered onto normal combat. A Netherrealm run therefore serves two purposes: it advances the permanent gear-and-build loop and may also advance the temporary season system.

Do not assume that every Netherrealm map, encounter, or reward behaves identically. Updates can change how content is presented, what appears during a run, and how loot is collected. Official announcements are the safest place to check what a named season adds.
What seasonal progression means
A season is not just a cosmetic label. It can alter what happens during Netherrealm runs and add a parallel way to earn rewards or shape a character. One season might place a new encounter inside an existing run; another might add a separate progression vector that changes how equipment is customized. These layers are usually designed to interact with the ordinary loot loop, but they are not interchangeable from one season to the next.

The activity layer
The seasonal activity is the thing you do while progressing through the season. It can introduce special enemies, objects, decisions, or bosses that do not appear in the same form outside that season. Your first task in a new season is to learn how the activity appears, what causes it to advance, and which rewards are exclusive to it.
The reward layer
Seasonal encounters can provide extra loot, materials, or collectibles. A reward is useful only in context: determine whether it improves your current equipment, feeds a crafting system, unlocks a seasonal upgrade, or is simply a temporary incentive. Official announcements describe the existence and theme of a reward loop, but they do not provide universal drop rates or a guaranteed best farming route.

Some seasons add a separate character-building system. That system may affect skills, equipment, or the way you combine bonuses. It should be understood as an additional decision tree rather than a replacement for ordinary gear progression. You still need a functional baseline build before investing heavily in an unfamiliar seasonal layer.
Afterlight: Wraiths, relics, and Nether King’s Divinity
The official Afterlight season announcement illustrates how a season can combine an activity with a distinct progression system. In that season, players purify Wraiths and collect relics. Runs can also feature special encounters, including golden reward monsters, coffins, revived Wraiths, and bosses.
Afterlight also introduced Nether King’s Divinity. Players brand Divine Remnants to cultivate Divinity forms, then use effects named Judgment, Contamination, and Banishment to shape builds and slate combinations. The important design lesson is that the season supplied both something to do during a run and a new way to make build decisions.

These are dated examples, not a statement that Afterlight’s mechanics are active in the current season. A returning player should check the live in-game season information and the latest official announcement before planning around Wraiths, relics, Divine Remnants, or any of the named effects.
Outlaw: a different model for seasonal progression
An official Outlaw season announcement described a high-stakes seasonal mechanic and the TOWER Sequence. That sequence functioned as a progression vector for customizing weapons and shields and for reproducing or modifying some legendary-gear mechanics.
Outlaw demonstrates why a season guide cannot be copied forward unchanged. Its focus was equipment customization, whereas Afterlight emphasized Wraith encounters, relics, and Divinity forms. Both fit the same broad loot-to-build loop, but the decisions, materials, and priorities are different. The presence of a mechanic in one announcement does not establish that it remains available after the season ends.

When evaluating any new season, compare four things: what you do during a run, what it awards, whether it creates a separate build or crafting path, and what happens to that system after the season changes. Those four questions reveal whether a mechanic is mainly a farming diversion, a source of upgrade materials, or a major build-defining layer.
Loot filters and faster collection
Loot filters control which drops are shown prominently and which are hidden. They are especially useful once a character is generating more items than you can sensibly inspect. A filter should reduce visual noise without hiding materials or equipment that your current build still needs.

What the SS14 update changed
The official SS14 season update log states that hidden items no longer delay other drops when a loot filter is used. In other words, a large filtered drop can be collected faster because suppressed items do not hold up the visible loot. This is a patch-specific behavior change, not a complete explanation of every filter rule.
A safe filter workflow
- Open the current loot-filter controls in the game and read the rules supplied with the active version.
- Start conservatively: keep visible the equipment types, currencies, and crafting materials your build can use.
- Run a few Netherrealm activities and inspect what the filter hides before tightening it.
- When changing builds, temporarily widen the filter so you do not miss useful bases or replacement gear.
- Check the latest patch notes after an update, because drop presentation and filter behavior can change.
The available official material does not establish an ideal beginner filter or a universal endgame rule set. Your filter should therefore follow your build and the live patch rather than an old screenshot or a season-specific recommendation.

Step 1: Confirm the season and region
Season names, mechanics, and reset timing can differ by update and region. Before spending resources, use the current in-game season panel and the latest regional or official announcement to confirm which season is live.
Step 2: Identify the seasonal entry point
Find out how the mechanic appears in ordinary content. Does it trigger inside Netherrealm runs, require a particular encounter, or use a separate interface? Learn the entry condition first; otherwise you may mistake an optional seasonal object for a normal drop or miss it entirely.
Step 3: Separate permanent and seasonal goals
Write down which upgrades remain useful regardless of the season and which rewards exist only for the seasonal system. Prioritize a stable combat setup, then invest in the seasonal layer once you can clear its content reliably.

Step 4: Test rewards before committing materials
Use a small number of runs to see whether seasonal rewards improve your equipment, unlock a build option, or feed a crafting path. Avoid assuming that a rare-looking reward is automatically best for your character.
Step 5: Recheck after patches
Update notes can change encounters, loot presentation, or progression rules. Revisit the official notes and your in-game descriptions after a major patch instead of relying on instructions written for a previous season.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
- Treating a past season as current: Afterlight and Outlaw show different designs. Always date a mechanic before building around it.
- Chasing drops without a build plan: More items do not automatically mean more power. Keep upgrades that support your actual skills and defenses.
- Hiding too much with a filter: A filter that is too strict can conceal useful bases or materials when you change direction. Widen it during experimentation.
- Assuming exact drop rates: The official descriptions available here do not establish complete drop tables or optimal efficiency figures. Do not treat an unverified percentage as a rule.
- Ignoring regional timing: There is no single schedule established here for every region. Confirm the reset and live-season status where you play.
What the official store information does—and does not—mean
The official store page includes information about virtual currency, but understanding loot and seasonal progression does not require a physical product. The progression loop described above is based on combat, Netherrealm content, equipment, crafting, and the season system. Purchases should not be confused with the mechanics that determine how drops are earned or how a build is developed.
Bottom line
Torchlight: Infinite’s progression is a loop rather than a single ladder: run combat and Netherrealm content, collect equipment and resources, refine your build through gear and crafting, and repeat at higher difficulty. Each season can add its own encounter and progression layer, as Afterlight’s Wraith and Divinity systems and Outlaw’s TOWER Sequence demonstrate. Because those layers change, verify the live season, region, and patch before applying any seasonal farming or build advice.
