Cyberpunk 2077 does not have an official co-op campaign or shared multiplayer progression. It is documented as a single-player role-playing game centered on V. What the game does support is cross-progression: you can move your own saves between supported platforms by linking each installation to the same CD PROJEKT RED account.
That distinction answers most save-sharing questions. Cross-progression transfers a save file for one account; it does not merge two players’ characters, combine inventories, or let friends run one shared Night City campaign.
Cyberpunk 2077 co-op progression: what exists and what does not
There is no official co-op campaign
The official product description presents Cyberpunk 2077 as a single-player RPG in which you play V, a mercenary whose choices shape the story and surrounding characters. Official product and support materials do not describe simultaneous co-op, a multiplayer campaign, or a shared campaign save.

Cross-progression is a personal save-transfer system
Cross-progression associates saves with one CD PROJEKT RED account. You create a save on one platform, the game uploads it, and another installation signed in to that same account can download and load it. It is designed for one player moving between devices, not for lending a character to a friend.
A friend who signs in with a different account will not see your cloud saves. Giving another person access to your account would expose every save attached to it and is not an official sharing feature.
What you need before transferring a save
- The latest available Cyberpunk 2077 patch on the source and destination installations.
- A CD PROJEKT RED account that is linked to the game on both platforms.
- Cross-progression enabled in Settings → Game.
- An internet connection long enough for the new save to upload and for the destination platform to download it.
- The required game content on the destination version. A save containing Phantom Liberty content needs Phantom Liberty installed there.
Cross-progression is account-based, so check the account identity before making a transfer. Using a different account on the second platform is the most common reason for an apparently missing save.

How to move a Cyberpunk 2077 save between platforms
- Update the source installation. Install the latest patch before creating the transfer save. Version differences can prevent a destination installation from recognizing the file.
- Open the save interface. From the source game’s main menu, open Load Game and choose the Cross Progression control.
- Link the game to your account. Sign in with the CD PROJEKT RED account you will use on the destination platform. If the installation is already linked, verify that it is the intended account.
- Enable the setting if necessary. Go to Settings → Game and turn on cross-progression.
- Create a fresh save. Make a new manual save, or allow the game to create a new quicksave or autosave. Wait until the save entry displays the cloud icon, which indicates that the upload has completed.
- Prepare the destination installation. Update it, link it to the same CD PROJEKT RED account, and enable cross-progression in the same settings area.
- Load the cloud save. Open Load Game on the destination platform and select the uploaded save. Do not rely on an older local save if your goal is to continue the latest session.
The support instructions state that cross-progression makes the newest save in each category available, including quicksaves, autosaves, manual saves and comparable categories. It does not turn every historical local save into a permanently synchronized archive, so create the specific save you want to carry over.

What is shared, and what is not

Think of the cloud copy as a portable snapshot of one player’s game. Loading it on a second platform continues that snapshot; it does not create a live, shared world that multiple accounts can edit.
Platform transfer support
CD PROJEKT RED’s support documentation covers transfers between PC and console in both directions, as well as PC-to-PC transfers. Console-to-console transfers are generally possible when both installations use unrestricted regional versions.

Cross-progression does not mean that a platform purchase, downloadable content license or regional entitlement automatically transfers. The destination installation still has to be able to run the content referenced by the save.

The expansion is the key edition-related limitation. CD PROJEKT RED states that a save created in the base game without Phantom Liberty will load in the Ultimate Edition. The reverse is not guaranteed: a save created in the Ultimate Edition cannot load on a version without the expansion because required content is missing.

In practical terms, you need Phantom Liberty installed on the destination whenever the save contains expansion-dependent progress. The official store description also specifies that Cyberpunk 2077 is required to play Phantom Liberty.
The 2023 Ultimate Edition announcement described that package as the base game, updates released by that time, free DLC and Phantom Liberty. It was sold digitally worldwide and physically in selected markets. Store listings and availability can change, so verify the edition offered in your country before relying on it for a transfer.
Regional SKU restrictions
Regional editions can impose a stricter compatibility rule than the platform itself. A save from an unrestricted version may fail to load in a more restrictive regional version. A save made in a restricted version is limited to versions that are equally restrictive or less restrictive.

The support documentation identifies Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan and Japan as affected regional SKUs. If either platform uses one of those editions, check the exact regional version rather than assuming that a console-to-console or PC-to-console move will work.

Why a cross-progression save is missing or greyed out
The cloud icon never appeared
The save has not finished uploading. Return to the source platform, open Load Game, and check the save entry. Create a fresh save and wait for the cloud icon before closing the game or changing platforms.
The destination shows no cross-progression saves
Confirm that both installations are signed in to the identical CD PROJEKT RED account, not merely the same console or PC user profile. Then update the destination installation, enable cross-progression under Settings → Game, restart the game and check Load Game again.
The save is visible but cannot be selected
Check the edition and expansion requirements first. A save containing Phantom Liberty content cannot be opened by a destination installation without Phantom Liberty. Installing the required expansion, or using an Ultimate Edition installation, resolves that content mismatch when the regional versions are compatible.
The transfer works in one direction but not the other
This usually indicates an edition or regional difference rather than a limitation of the account itself. Compare the source and destination SKUs, especially if one is from a restricted region. An unrestricted-to-restricted move can fail even when the reverse direction appears possible.

An older save appears instead of the latest one
Cross-progression publishes the newest save in each category. Create a new manual save after reaching the point you want to continue, wait for its cloud icon, and load that entry on the destination instead of selecting an earlier local file.
Common transfer scenarios
Moving from PS5 to PC
On the console, update the game, link it to the intended CD PROJEKT RED account, enable cross-progression, create a manual save and wait for the cloud icon. On PC, sign in to that same account, install a compatible edition and expansion set, then use Load Game to select the uploaded save.
Moving from Xbox to PC
The process is the same account-based sequence: update Xbox, create and upload a new save, then sign in to the identical CD PROJEKT RED account on PC. The PC installation must include Phantom Liberty if the save uses expansion content.
Sharing a save with a friend
There is no supported friend-to-friend save merge. A save remains associated with the account that uploaded it, and the game does not provide a co-op campaign in which both players can contribute progress. If you need another person to play the same point in the story, they would need access to the same account and compatible installation, which is account sharing rather than a multiplayer feature.
A reliable pre-transfer checklist
- Both copies are fully patched.
- The source and destination use the same CD PROJEKT RED account.
- Cross-progression is enabled under Settings → Game on each installation.
- You created a new save and confirmed its cloud icon before switching platforms.
- The destination includes Phantom Liberty when the save depends on it.
- The source and destination regional SKUs are compatible, especially for the named restricted markets.
- You selected the cloud-uploaded entry from Load Game, rather than an unrelated local save.
The Bottom Line
Cyberpunk 2077 has no official co-op campaign progression or shared-save system. Its cross-progression feature moves one player’s newest uploaded saves between supported PC and console installations through the same CD PROJEKT RED account. Match the account, patch level, edition, Phantom Liberty installation and regional SKU, and the transfer should appear under Load Game.
