A digital die-bonding alignment system combines separate camera images of a chip and its target in software. In a report published October 6, 2026, Electronics For You describes an approach developed by Tresky GmbH: an upward-facing camera views the chip, a downward-facing camera views the substrate or target, and software presents both in one alignment display. The report also describes saving a chip image before pickup so a feature hidden by the pickup tool can remain available as a visual reference.

How the digital alignment view is created

The system captures two views separately rather than optically combining them through a beamsplitter: one camera faces upward to capture the chip, while another faces downward toward the substrate or placement target. Software combines the images into a single view for the operator. The report describes this as replacing the beamsplitter’s image-combination role; it does not establish that all beamsplitter optics or other die-bonder functions have been removed.

The operator can align in X, Y, and theta (rotation) and adjust how the combined view is displayed. The report names transparency, scale, zoom, contrast, brightness, and rotation controls, as well as the ability to add further overlays. These are visual controls; their presence alone does not establish a particular placement accuracy or repeatability.

How a saved image helps when the pickup tool hides a feature

A pickup tool can obscure a chip feature needed for alignment after the chip has been lifted. In the reported workflow, the system captures that feature before pickup and stores it as a reference. After pickup, the saved image can be overlaid on the live view of the substrate, letting the operator use the earlier view of the feature during alignment.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

This method depends on capturing the relevant feature before it becomes hidden. It does not recover a feature that was never imaged or identified. When evaluating a system for a particular die, confirm which marks or geometric details must be visible before pickup and how the reference is positioned and used during placement.

What changes compared with a beamsplitter overlay

A conventional flip-chip alignment module uses a beamsplitter to optically overlay two views. Tresky’s flip-chip documentation describes such an optic alongside an integrated Ultra HD camera, digital magnification, and LED illumination. That documentation provides context for the conventional arrangement, not a controlled head-to-head test against the newly reported digital method.

Electronics For You says a physical beamsplitter adds glass to the optical path and can contribute reflections, ghost images, focus shifts, reduced light reaching cameras, and additional mechanical and optical alignment demands. The report presents software image combination as reducing those optical and mechanical variables. These are qualitative claims in the report: the available sources do not provide comparative measurements of accuracy, yield, throughput, cost, or reliability.

Keep platform specifications separate from digital-system performance

Tresky’s published specifications describe its existing equipment, not test results for the digital image-combination approach. The distinctions matter when interpreting accuracy figures:

  • Tresky’s flip-chip documentation lists ±5 µm or better accuracy for its flip-chip bonders and describes ±1 µm alignment for the camera module under stated conditions. These are vendor claims about the documented equipment and module.
  • The T-5300 / T-5300-W product page lists placement accuracy of ±10 µm, with less than ±1 µm optional depending on process and option. It also lists flip-chip optical resolutions of 1.25 µm and 0.625 µm for two options. These are platform specifications, not a measured result for digital image combination.

The same T-5300 page describes a manual XY placement stage, programmable Z axis, and options that include flip-chip equipment and a color camera. Treat those as configuration details for the named platform rather than universal features of digital alignment systems.

Where the reported approach may be relevant

Electronics For You identifies research and development, prototyping, high-mix and low-volume manufacturing, photonics, optoelectronics, and advanced packaging as intended contexts. It highlights processes in which component geometries change frequently or alignment marks may be obscured during bonding. Tresky separately describes its die-bonder platforms for research, development, and small-scale production on its T-5300 / T-5300-W page.

Tooling is another process-specific consideration. Tresky’s standard and custom tooling information says custom pickup tools require chip X/Y dimensions and thickness, and bump information where relevant. The right tool depends on the die’s dimensions and features; a saved image reference does not remove the need to match the pickup tool to the component and process.

Questions to ask when assessing an alignment setup

The sources do not establish a like-for-like comparison across systems. For an engineering or purchasing evaluation, ask for evidence tied to the intended process rather than inferring outcomes from a display feature or an unrelated platform specification:
