What full-page automation actually captures
A viewport screenshot records only the currently visible rectangle. A full-page capture renders the page’s entire scrollable document and stitches the result into one output. That distinction matters for long documentation pages, landing pages, invoices, directories and visual QA: a page can look correct above the fold while images, sections or layout lower down are broken.

Prerequisites and authentication
- Create a ScreenshotNeo account and API key.
- Keep the key in a secret manager or CI secret; do not commit it to source control or expose it in browser-side JavaScript.
- Choose an output format explicitly:
png,jpeg,webporpdf. - Decide whether the caller needs the binary file immediately or a hosted URL and metadata. Use
response_type=jsonfor the latter.
The API accepts the key as an access_key query/body parameter, an X-Access-Key header, or a Bearer token. Use POST when sending raw HTML or a richer JSON body.

Prevent common full-page failures
Lazy-loaded images remain blank
Set full_page_scroll=true. If the site needs a specific component before capture, combine scrolling with a selector wait or a short delay. A page that continually appends content should also use full_page_max_height; otherwise an endless feed can keep growing.
The document is taller than the supported range
The documented maximum is 16,000 CSS pixels. Set a lower full_page_max_height for feeds, logs and infinite-scroll pages, or capture defined sections separately with a CSS selector.
The page downloads too much
When a page downloads more than 60 MB, ScreenshotNeo stops loading and captures the page as it is at that point. Block unnecessary resource types, ads or trackers, or capture a smaller target region if the missing content is not required.
Cookie banners and overlays obscure content

Return files, URLs or PDFs
Binary image output is convenient for a local build artifact. For a dashboard, webhook consumer or HTML report, request response_type=json; the response includes a file URL and page metadata. PDF output supports paper size, margins, landscape orientation and page ranges, so a long page can become a paginated document instead of one extremely tall bitmap.

Make recurring jobs reliable
- Store the key in your CI secret store or a server-side secret manager.
- Send an explicit URL, format, viewport and full-page setting on every request; do not rely on a developer laptop’s browser defaults.
- Enable scrolling for lazy content and cap height for unbounded documents.
- Check the HTTP status,
X-Page-VerdictandX-Billedbefore accepting the artifact. - Retry only transient failures. If the service returns HTTP 429, honor its
Retry-Aftervalue instead of immediately flooding the endpoint. - Use
async=truefor large jobs and signed webhooks when your worker should receive completion notifications. - Use bulk requests for up to 100 URLs per call when generating a directory, documentation set or visual-regression batch.
- Use the usage API to reconcile recurring jobs and quota consumption.
Cache controls let you choose a TTL. Cache hits are not billed, so a build can safely request the same stable page without paying for duplicate clean captures.
What is and is not billed
Only clean, successful captures are billed. Troubleshooting checklist
HTTP 401 or 403
The key is missing, invalid or sent in the wrong place. Try a Bearer Authorization header, access_key query parameter, X-Access-Key header or a valid JSON body. Keep the key server-side.
HTTP 429
You exceeded a rate or concurrency limit. Pause for the number of seconds in Retry-After, reduce parallel workers and move large batches to asynchronous jobs or the bulk endpoint.

HTTP 200 but the image is unusable
Read X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed. A bot check, blank page, timeout, failed load or content-check failure can produce a non-usable result that is not billed. Supply the required cookies, headers, user agent or Authorization value, then retry.
Bottom sections are missing
Enable full_page_scroll=true, wait for a known selector or network idle, and confirm that the page does not exceed 16,000 CSS pixels or the 60 MB download stop condition.
The capture is unexpectedly different between runs
Fix viewport, scale, device mode, timezone, geolocation, cookies and user agent. Hide animated or personalized selectors with custom CSS, or use a cache TTL for stable pages.
The output is too large
Use WebP or JPEG, lower the scale, resize the image, cap full-page height or capture an element instead of the entire document. Use PDF when a paginated document is more useful than one tall bitmap.
