Short answer: CSR2 stars and rarity labels do not provide a published, universal speed multiplier. They classify cars and progression categories. Your actual race potential is represented by Performance Potential (PP) from the car’s specification and standard upgrades, plus Evo Points from Fusion Parts and tuning. Stage 6 upgrades are stronger than Stage 5, while Fusion Parts only work in compatible open slots (with Universal Fusion Parts as the Race Pass exception). Compare PP, Evo, slots, available parts, tuning range and event rules—not the star count alone.
What stars and rarity mean in CSR2
CSR2 uses several labels that look similar but answer different questions. Collections classify cars into three rarity tiers: Uncommon (green), Rare (blue) and Epic (purple). Zynga describes a collection’s rarity as a measure of how aspirational its cars are, how difficult they are to acquire and what rewards are attached to the collection. That is a progression and acquisition classification, not a published statement that every Rare or Epic car is a fixed percentage faster.
Race Pass content also uses Gold Star and Purple Star labels. Those labels identify the version or status of a car in that event system. Neither the Collections announcement nor the Race Pass announcement publishes a universal formula such as “one extra star equals 5% more speed.” If two cars have different stars, you still need to inspect their tier, installed upgrades, PP, Evo and event eligibility before predicting which will win.

Star or color labels can still matter indirectly. They may determine which cars a collection or event recognizes, how difficult a car is to obtain, or which rewards are available. They do not replace the performance numbers shown on the car and upgrade screens.

PP and Evo: the two numbers to read
CSR2 separates the car’s normal rating from its additional performance value. Zynga’s Upgrades and Tuning help explains that standard upgrades contribute to Performance Potential (PP). PP reflects the car’s base specification together with the installed Stage upgrades. Fusion Parts do not become PP.
Evo Points are displayed separately to the right of the rating. Fusion Parts add Evo, and tuning can change the displayed performance as you adjust settings. A fusion installation can therefore leave the PP number unchanged while increasing Evo. Treating the two numbers as one score makes it easy to misread a build: a car with lower PP but substantially higher Evo may be the better tuned choice for a particular race, while a high-PP car with little Evo may still need more supporting parts.

There is no authoritative universal table showing how many Evo Points every individual part contributes, and no published cross-car formula converts star count directly into elapsed time. The reliable method is to read the current PP and Evo values on the specific car, then test the build against the event’s restrictions.

How Fusion Parts work
Fusion Parts are manufacturer-specific components that push an installed upgrade further. They come in three rarities—Uncommon, Rare and Epic—and fit only into open Fusion Slots on eligible upgrades. A part must match the car manufacturer and have a compatible slot; an unused slot by itself does not make every part usable.

- Challenges and other in-game rewards
Because drops are limited, a sensible build uses matching parts on a car you expect to race rather than spreading scarce pieces across every garage project.
What a fusion installation changes
Installing a Fusion Part adds Evo Points. It can improve the car’s displayed performance without changing the PP value of the standard upgrade that received it. Open slots are therefore a real build resource: two cars with similar PP can have very different Evo ceilings if one has more usable slots or better matching parts available.
Removal and its cost
Parts are removed one at a time, and removing a Fusion Part costs gold. Plan the order of your installations before filling a slot, especially on a rare or expensive Stage component. A mistaken placement is reversible, but it consumes premium currency.

Yes. Existing Fusion Parts remain attached to the component’s benefit when that component is moved to a later Stage. For example, if a Stage 3 component has a Fusion Part and you later upgrade that component to Stage 5, the Stage 3 Fusion benefit remains. You do not lose that installed benefit merely because the standard upgrade level increased.

This carry-over changes the usual “wait until the final Stage” advice. If an early installation helps an event you are running now and the part is compatible with the car you intend to keep, fitting it before Stage 5 can be reasonable. The decision should still account for slot availability, part scarcity and the cost of removing the part later.
Stage 5 versus Stage 6
Stage 6 parts are more powerful than Stage 5 upgrades, according to the official help center. They are also scarce. A Stage 6 component can create a larger performance jump than adding another ordinary Stage 5 item, but its value depends on the car, the event and the rest of the build.
When to spend a Stage 6 part
- Use the upgrade screen to see the specific PP and Evo effect on your car.
- Check whether the target event requires a particular tier, model or upgrade level.
- Prioritize a component that removes your largest performance bottleneck rather than automatically choosing the first available Stage 6 slot.
- Keep enough matching Fusion Parts and tuning range to support the Stage 6 build.
Do not assume that a Stage 6 installation is always the fastest answer for every race. A restricted event may cap upgrades, and a different component may produce a better result after tuning. Since Stage 6 resources are limited, make the choice on the car you will actually use for the event rather than on star color.
Manufacturer limits and the Universal Fusion exception
Ordinary Fusion Parts are tied to a manufacturer. A part earned for one manufacturer cannot normally be moved to a different manufacturer’s car, even if both cars have the same type of upgrade or an open slot. Check the manufacturer compatibility shown in the installation screen before spending the part.

Universal Fusion Parts are the explicit exception described in the Race Pass announcement. They bypass model and manufacturer limits and fit any car’s Fusion Slots. Universal parts are available in Uncommon, Rare and Epic rarities as an event or reward feature. Do not treat that exception as a rule for standard manufacturer-specific parts.
A practical comparison method for two cars or builds
When a higher-star car appears to be slower, compare the builds in this order:
- Identify the tier and race role. Confirm that both cars are eligible for the same event and are intended for the same race distance or restriction.
- Record PP and Evo separately. Write down both displayed values; do not substitute star count for either number.
- Count usable Fusion Slots. Note which upgrades have open slots and whether those slots accept the parts you actually own.
- Check Stage 6 availability. A car with matching Stage 6 components may have a higher practical ceiling than one whose parts are unavailable, regardless of rarity label.
- Compare manufacturer-specific inventory. Include Uncommon, Rare and Epic parts that match each car, plus any Universal parts reserved for the build.
- Review tuning range. A build that can be tuned to the event’s launch, shift or speed requirements may outperform a nominally higher-rated but poorly matched setup.
- Price a rebuild. Include gold required to remove any Fusion Part you might need to relocate; the cheapest displayed upgrade is not always the cheapest usable plan.

Step-by-step: inspect and improve a build
- Open the car’s upgrade screen and note the current PP and Evo values.
- Open each upgrade category to see its Stage level and the number of open Fusion Slots.
- Filter or inspect the Fusion inventory for parts matching the car’s manufacturer and the selected upgrade.
- Compare the displayed Evo change before confirming an installation. If the part is valuable, verify the slot and manufacturer twice.
- Install the part only when the event objective or your planned build justifies using it; remember that removal costs gold.
- Apply standard upgrades and inspect whether PP changes as expected. A Fusion installation may raise Evo without moving PP.
- Enter the tuning screen, adjust the available settings and read the resulting rating for the target race.
- Check the event rules again after upgrading. Some events impose model, tier, Stage or star-status requirements that raw performance cannot override.
Common mistakes and how to fix them
“More stars must mean faster.”
Stars and rarity describe categories and event status; no universal speed percentage is published. Fix the comparison by recording PP, Evo, slots and tuning for the exact cars.
“The PP number did not move, so the Fusion failed.”
Fusion Parts add Evo rather than PP. Look to the separate Evo value and the car’s displayed rating after installation.

“I should never fuse before Stage 5.”
Installed Fusion benefits carry forward when the component is upgraded from an earlier Stage. Early use can be justified for an event, provided the part matches the car and you accept the opportunity cost and possible gold removal fee.
“Any manufacturer’s part should fit an open slot.”
Standard parts are manufacturer-specific. Use only matching parts unless the item is explicitly marked Universal through the Race Pass reward system.
“Every Stage 6 part is automatically the best investment.”
Stage 6 is more powerful than Stage 5, but parts are scarce and event restrictions vary. Check the upgrade screen, target requirements and tuning result before committing.

What the official guidance actually supports
Zynga Player Support describes Fusion Parts this way: “Fusion Parts are a way of pushing each upgrade to its limits, giving you Evo Points to boost your ride’s performance even further.” That statement matches the practical distinction between PP and Evo: fusions extend an existing standard-upgrade build rather than replacing its PP rating.
The published systems establish the three Collections rarity tiers, the three ordinary Fusion Part rarities and the Universal Fusion exception for Race Pass rewards. They do not establish a numeric star-to-performance multiplier, a universal Evo-per-part table or a cross-car performance formula. For that reason, the in-game PP, Evo, slot and tuning screens remain the authoritative decision tools for a specific car and race.
Bottom line
Use rarity and stars to understand classification, acquisition and event eligibility. Use PP to judge the standard build, Evo to judge Fusion Parts and tuning, and the upgrade screen to verify Stage 5 or Stage 6 choices. Confirm manufacturer compatibility, preserve scarce parts for the car and event that need them, and budget gold before removing anything. That process produces a faster, more reliable build than choosing by star count alone.
