To show customers a price before checkout, configure a measurement-pricing calculator for products with predictable rules, such as flooring sold by area or fabric sold by length. Choose whether a customer’s measurement should set a purchasable quantity or calculate a price per unit, then add any option fields that affect the total. If staff must review the details or estimate the job, use a separate quote-request workflow; a calculator alone does not provide that approval process.
First decide what “instant quote” means for your store
An instant quote can be an automatically calculated price customers can purchase immediately, or an estimate that staff review before confirming. WooCommerce’s Measurement Price Calculator documentation describes the first kind: measurement-based pricing using known rules. It covers dimensions, area, volume, and weight, with quantity-based and user-defined modes.
Before choosing an extension, write down the inputs customers must provide, their units, the rate or formula, minimum charge, rounding or overage rules, and any options that change the price. Decide whether the customer should be able to add the result to the cart or whether someone must review the request. That distinction determines whether you need a calculator, a request-and-review workflow, or both.
Choose the calculation mode that matches how you sell
Quantity-based pricing for set-size products
Use quantity-based mode when the customer’s requirement should determine how many purchasable units are needed. For example, a flooring product might be sold in boxes that each cover a known area. The calculator can use the requested measurement to determine the quantity required, including applicable overage rules. Define what one product quantity represents and verify how the calculator rounds quantities against your actual packaging and fulfillment rules.

User-defined pricing for custom measurements
Use user-defined calculated pricing when customers enter an open-ended measurement and pay per unit of that measurement—for example, fabric sold by the yard. Set the per-unit price and specify any minimum price, allowed input limits, or overage rules the product needs. Confirm the displayed unit is clear: customers should understand whether the entered value means length, area, volume, or weight.

The official Measurement Price Calculator guide describes product-level calculator settings, including measurement type, units, price display, and customer input behavior. Start with one representative product so you can validate the math and purchase flow before applying a setup to more products.

- Define the pricing rule. Record the measurement customers enter, its unit, the product’s purchasable unit, the rate or formula, and any minimum, rounding, overage, or input-limit rules.
- Select quantity-based or user-defined mode. Match the mode to whether the measurement determines product quantity or calculates a price per measurement.
- Set the measurement type and units. Choose the relevant dimension, area, volume, or weight measurement and use labels customers can understand.
- Set the product price and behavior. For quantity-based pricing, specify what one purchasable quantity represents. For user-defined pricing, configure the per-unit price and any minimum price or input constraints.
- Review the customer-facing display. Check that labels, units, and price behavior explain what is being entered and how the result is calculated.
- Save and test the product from the storefront. Enter ordinary and boundary values, then confirm the result and resulting quantity before using the setup on similar products.
Add options and details that change the quote
Use WooCommerce Product Add-Ons when a product needs customer selections, text, file uploads, quantities, or a customer-defined price in addition to its measurement. Its documented price adjustments include flat, quantity-based, and percentage-based rules. Choose the adjustment that reflects the real charge, and make required fields required so customers cannot submit an incomplete order.

Treat these as separate parts of the configuration: the measurement calculator handles the documented measurement pricing, while add-on fields collect extra details or apply supported option charges. Product Add-Ons is not documented as a general-purpose measurement calculator.

Choose an extension based on the rules you need

Compare the actual measurement types and units, product-level or global rules, input bounds, pricing tables, add-on needs, cart and checkout behavior, and compatibility requirements that matter to your store. The documentation for alternatives does not support assuming their features or compatibility are interchangeable.
Test the whole purchase path before launch
A correct product-page calculation is not enough: customers also need the right quantity and price to persist through the cart and checkout. Test representative products with the exact theme, WooCommerce version, checkout experience, and plugin combination you plan to use.

- Try the smallest and largest allowed inputs, values just outside the limits, and values around any rounding or overage threshold.
- Check that the displayed price and quantity respond as expected when measurements and priced options change.
- Verify the line item, quantity, and total in the cart and at checkout, including any uploaded file or selected add-on details needed to fulfill the order.
- Test required fields, missing inputs, and invalid values to ensure an incomplete or unusable request cannot proceed unnoticed.
- Test the extensions together. WooCommerce documents an incorrect-pricing risk when Product Add-Ons is used with Measurement Price Calculator calculated inventory, and lists other compatibility caveats, including certain bundles or composites and currency-switching setups.
WooCommerce states that Cart and Checkout blocks are compatible with Measurement Price Calculator as of WooCommerce 8.3. This is documented vendor guidance, not a guarantee for every theme, extension combination, or store configuration; validate the setup you will launch.
When a calculator is not enough
If the final price depends on staff judgment, custom estimation, or approval after reviewing customer details, plan a separate quote-request and review workflow. The cited calculator and add-on documentation explains automatic measurement pricing and configurable product fields, but does not establish a complete manual-approval process or cover every custom formula and conditional rule. If your rules cannot be represented accurately with the available settings, consider custom development or a request flow rather than presenting an unreliable automatic price as a firm quote.
