Bitdefender GravityZone AI Visibility and Control (AIVC) is a business add-on that helps security teams discover supported AI software and components on managed Windows endpoints, review associated risks, and decide where to apply existing security controls. It is an inventory and risk-prioritization layer—not a tool that independently blocks AI apps, uninstalls software, or changes program permissions.

What does AI Visibility and Control show?

AIVC is designed for organizations and managed service providers (MSPs) using GravityZone, not for consumers looking for a home antivirus product. Its inventory can include online AI applications and services, developer tools and coding assistants, local models and runtimes, Model Context Protocol (MCP) clients and servers, AI agents, agent frameworks, skills, browser and IDE extensions, and other supported components. A SaaS AI service is identifiable when it installs a local agent or client on an endpoint; the documentation does not establish that AIVC inventories every service a user accesses only through a browser.

The product uses two related concepts. An AI service is a discovered technology or component. An AI finding is a security risk associated with one or more services. Examples of finding categories include network exposure, shadow AI, excessive privileges, software from untrusted sources, and insecure configurations. A service can have several findings or appear on multiple endpoints, and a finding can affect multiple services or resources. Risk scores help prioritize review; they are not a measure of whether a tool has been approved by the organization.

Bitdefender says the feature recognizes more than 50 AI agents, more than 70,000 skills, and 17 functional categories. These are vendor-described coverage figures, not independently verified test results. Bitdefender’s product explainer describes the feature’s scope and how to interpret it.

How do AI Services and AI Findings differ?

AI Services: what is present?

AI Services is the inventory view. Use it to review discovered services by category and score, examine related components and findings, see affected resources and platforms, and manage watchlists or ignored services. This view helps answer which supported AI technologies have been found and where they appear.

AI Findings: what needs attention?

AI Findings is the risk-review queue. It supports review by category and score, affected services and resources, and mitigation guidance. Administrators can also work with watchlists and ignored or restored findings. Smart Views provide default filters for all items, high-risk items, watchlisted items, and ignored items. Consult the AI Visibility and Control support documentation for the documented views and workflow.

Interpret a score of zero carefully: Bitdefender says it means the configuration was not found risky, not that the organization has approved the tool. A clean risk queue and a sanctioned-tools inventory answer different governance questions. Teams should maintain their own approval decisions rather than treating a low score as authorization.

What AIVC can and cannot enforce

AIVC identifies AI-related services and risks to help teams decide where to apply policy. It does not itself block access, remove software, or alter program permissions. Enforcement relies on existing GravityZone controls, including web filtering, application control, and endpoint hardening, which can be configured to allow, monitor, restrict, or block tools.

For AI agents, Bitdefender says GravityZone can extend behavioral analysis and access control when AIVC is licensed with PHASR. Administrators can enable protection for supported agent activities, while analysts can review behavioral profiles, recommendations, and access settings. This is a separate licensing and configuration consideration, not an automatic consequence of discovering an agent.

Requirements before inventory appears

Discovery depends on an eligible active entitlement, supported Windows endpoint, an installed package containing Risk Management, Risk Management enabled, AIVC enabled in the same policy, and delivery of that updated policy to the endpoint. The Global Protective Network policy option must also be selected so AIVC receives required endpoint telemetry. Activating the add-on alone does not start scanning, and switching on a policy checkbox does not install a missing Risk Management module.

Set up and run an AIVC scan

  1. Verify entitlement. Confirm that the organization’s GravityZone subscription or partner package qualifies and that AIVC is active for the company.
  2. Check endpoint support and modules. Confirm the managed device runs a supported Windows workstation or server operating system and that its installed package includes the Risk Management module.
  3. Configure the applicable policy. Enable Risk Management and AIVC in that policy, select the Global Protective Network option required for telemetry, and assign the policy to the intended endpoints.
  4. Confirm policy delivery. Ensure endpoints have received the updated policy. A console setting that has not reached a device is not evidence that monitoring is active there.
  5. Open the inventory or risk queue. In GravityZone, go to AI Services or AI Findings, select the company, and choose Scan.
  6. Investigate results. Use category and risk filters, linked services, affected resources, and mitigation guidance to understand each item. Record approval status separately, then apply any required web filtering, application control, or hardening policy.

The product page says AIVC uses the existing GravityZone agent and console rather than requiring a new agent, appliance, or second console. At launch, documented operating-system support is for Windows workstation and server endpoints; additional platform support is described as planned, without a timeline established in the reviewed sources. See the official AIVC product page for product scope.

What endpoint data does Bitdefender say it collects?

In its 28 September 2026 explainer, Bitdefender says the GravityZone BEST agent collects minimized metadata about which AI software is present and how it is configured. The vendor says AIVC does not inspect prompts, chat history, model weights, credentials, or full file content. This is Bitdefender’s description of its data boundary, not an independently tested finding; organizations should assess it alongside their own privacy and telemetry requirements.

Licensing, fit, and adoption context

Bitdefender lists GravityZone Business Security Enterprise, GravityZone Defense XDR, Bitdefender MDR offerings, GravityZone PHASR Standalone, and MSP product packages as eligible contexts for the AIVC add-on. Eligibility depends on the exact entitlement and activation route, so the product names alone should not be treated as confirmation that a particular deployment is covered. The reviewed product information does not establish a universal retail price.

Bitdefender’s 23 September 2026 launch announcement attributed a finding that 47% of organizations lacked full visibility into employee AI tool usage to its 2026 global survey of 1,200 cybersecurity practitioners. The announcement also attributed to Gartner a 2026 forecast that over 40% of enterprises will suffer security or compliance incidents linked to unauthorized shadow AI by 2030, citing Nicholas Sworek’s 18 February 2026 report, How to Govern AI Risks Across Your Third-Party Network. These figures are reported here as attributions in Bitdefender’s announcement, not as independently reviewed survey or forecast findings.

For teams, AIVC’s practical value is the link between a supported endpoint-level inventory and risk context: it can make otherwise hard-to-see AI components reviewable, but it does not replace approval governance or the controls used to enforce a decision. Start by confirming coverage and telemetry, use Services to understand what is present, then use Findings to prioritize investigation and route approved policy actions through the appropriate GravityZone controls.
