A Bitcoin mining pool payout happens in two separate stages: the pool first credits your account for accepted work, then it checks withdrawal rules and sends funds to your external wallet or Lightning destination. An hourly or daily balance update is therefore not proof that bitcoin has reached your wallet. Delivery depends on the reward method, payout threshold, schedule, address checks, pool processing time and, for on-chain payments, network confirmation.
This guide explains those stages, compares PPS, PPS+ and PPLNS, shows how to register a wallet and configure withdrawals, and gives concrete examples from current pool policies. Thresholds, fees and schedules are pool settings that can change, so confirm the live rules for the pool and payout rail you use.
How a pool payout actually moves
Your miner does not normally send every small earning directly to your personal wallet. Instead, the pool records accepted shares in an internal account and applies its chosen reward formula. A separate withdrawal process later evaluates whether your balance and destination satisfy the pool’s rules.

Every valid share demonstrates that your equipment performed a measurable amount of work. Under PPS, the pool values each accepted share using a formula based on network difficulty and the block reward, so your account can be credited even when the pool itself has not found a block. PPS+ uses the same treatment for the subsidy and adds an allocation of transaction fees. PPLNS waits for a qualifying block and calculates your portion over a defined lookback window.

The dashboard may update hourly, daily or at another interval chosen by the operator. That update is an accounting event inside the pool. It does not create a blockchain transaction and does not change the balance shown in your personal wallet.
Stage 2: withdrawal and delivery
When the account meets the selected withdrawal condition, the pool checks the destination, any address-level eligibility or security lock, and any required block confirmations. It then creates an on-chain transaction or sends a Lightning payment where that rail is supported. An on-chain transfer may remain unconfirmed until miners include it in a block; a Lightning payment follows the pool’s own Lightning delivery process instead.
This separation explains why “earned,” “eligible,” “processing,” “sent” and “confirmed” can appear as different statuses. Each status describes a different point in the pipeline.
PPS, PPS+ and PPLNS compared
| Method | How your share is valued | When account credit can appear | What creates variance | Transaction-fee treatment |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PPS | Each valid share is paid using a formula tied to network difficulty and the block reward. | Credit does not wait for the pool to find a block. | Pool fee and the method’s stated assumptions; your payment is less exposed to the luck of individual blocks. | Not included unless the pool’s PPS terms say otherwise. |
| PPS+ | Subsidy component follows PPS treatment, with an additional allocation for transaction fees. | The subsidy component can be credited without waiting for a block found by your pool; fee allocation follows the pool’s accounting rules. | Fee allocation and pool-specific accounting can vary with block transaction fees. | Transaction fees are allocated in addition to the PPS-style subsidy component. |
| PPLNS | Your reward is calculated over a “pay per last N shares” lookback when the pool finds a block. | After a qualifying block and the pool’s required confirmations. | Block luck and the number and timing of your shares inside the lookback window. | Follow the pool’s PPLNS rules; the ViaBTC table lists PPLNS separately from PPS. |
PPS: steadier accounting
PPS is designed to make the account-credit side more predictable. The pool assumes responsibility for the variance between the expected value of shares and the blocks it actually finds. That does not guarantee a fixed amount in your wallet at a fixed time: the pool can still apply a fee, a threshold and a scheduled withdrawal window.

PPS+: subsidy plus fee allocation
PPS+ keeps the PPS-style subsidy calculation and adds a transaction-fee component. Read the pool’s definition carefully: the fee component may be displayed separately, and the amount can change as the transaction fees in mined blocks change.
PPLNS: block-dependent rewards
PPLNS ties the reward to a qualifying block. For example, ViaBTC’s help documentation uses the last five difficulty rounds as its lookback and requires six confirmations for the block-dependent calculation. Until those conditions are met, a dashboard can show shares without a spendable PPLNS reward.
What wallet destination you need
You must control an external Bitcoin destination before registering for payouts. Braiins defines a wallet as “an external destination — a bitcoin wallet address — at which you can receive your payouts from the pool.” That can be a self-custody wallet, an exchange deposit address that accepts mining-related transfers, or a Lightning destination if the pool supports Lightning payouts and your wallet can receive them.

On-chain address formats
Braiins accepts P2PKH, P2SH, bech32 and bech32m addresses. These formats can look different, but the operational requirement is the same: copy the address exactly from the receiving wallet and verify that it is a Bitcoin address for the network and account you intend to use. Do not substitute an address from another asset or network.

Lightning destinations
Lightning payouts require a receiving setup that can accept the pool’s Lightning payment. The pool may use a Lightning address, invoice or another destination format specified in its interface. Lightning limits and fees are separate from on-chain rules; a balance that is large enough for an on-chain withdrawal may still be outside the pool’s Lightning range.
Proving control of the address
A payout-lock process can require a signature proving that you control the registered wallet address. Keep the wallet’s signing capability available when changing or locking a destination. If you cannot sign, the pool may delay a change or enforce a security hold.
Using a hardware wallet
For balances that should remain under your control, an offline-signing device can reduce exposure of private keys. Braiins recommends a Trezor hardware wallet for collecting mining rewards. Check the current device model, Bitcoin support and the pool’s address-signing procedure before purchasing or configuring one.

- Create or select the receiving wallet. Confirm that you control the Bitcoin wallet or Lightning destination and that it is intended for the network you are mining.
- Copy the destination from the wallet. Use the wallet’s receive screen rather than typing the address. Compare the first and last characters after pasting into the pool.
- Open the pool’s payout settings. Register the on-chain address or select the supported Lightning option. Complete any email, two-factor or address-lock step required by the pool.
- Choose the withdrawal rule. Depending on the pool, select a scheduled payout, a balance threshold, or a manual/immediate withdrawal. A threshold means the pool waits until the account reaches that amount; a schedule means it evaluates the balance during a stated processing window.
- Check the minimum and possible fee. A balance can be visible but ineligible if it is below the minimum for the chosen rail. Also check whether a small payout incurs a withdrawal fee.
- Save and verify the setting. Re-open the payout page and confirm the destination, rail, threshold and next payout time. Treat an address change as a security-sensitive action.
- Wait through both clocks. First allow the pool’s accounting and processing window. Then allow blockchain confirmation time for an on-chain transaction. A Lightning payment does not wait for on-chain confirmations, but it still depends on the pool’s processing and destination checks.

| Pool or rail | Published setting | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Braiins Pool on-chain | 0.0002 BTC minimum payout; 2.5% pool fee. | Your eligible balance must reach the stated minimum, and the pool fee is applied under its rewards terms. |
| Braiins Pool free on-chain payout | 0.005 BTC minimum for a free on-chain payout; 0.0001 BTC fee below that level. | A payout below 0.005 BTC can be subject to the stated fee even when it meets the 0.0002 BTC minimum. |
| Braiins Pool Lightning | 1 satoshi minimum and 0.005 BTC maximum. | Lightning has its own lower and upper bounds; an amount outside that range needs another eligible rail. |
| Braiins Pool schedule | Payout creation at 09:00 UTC daily. | The pool evaluates or creates scheduled payouts at that time; wallet arrival can be later. |
| ViaBTC PPS | 4% fee in ViaBTC’s 2026 table. | This is the fee listed for the PPS method, not a universal PPS rate. |
| ViaBTC PPLNS | 2% fee in ViaBTC’s 2026 table. | This is the fee listed for ViaBTC’s PPLNS method. |
| ViaBTC auto-withdrawal | 10:00–18:00 UTC+8. | Automatic withdrawals are processed during that window according to the account’s eligibility rules. |
Because fee, threshold and schedule are independent settings, changing from PPS to PPLNS or from on-chain to Lightning can change both the amount credited and the time it becomes deliverable.

Work through these checks in order. Each one corresponds to a different stage of the payout pipeline.
1. The balance is below the threshold
Compare the credited balance with the minimum for the selected rail and the threshold configured in your account. If the threshold is higher than the pool’s absolute minimum, the pool will wait even though the balance is valid.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2. The payout window has not run
Scheduled systems do not process continuously. For Braiins, the daily payout-creation time is 09:00 UTC. ViaBTC’s auto-withdrawal window is 10:00–18:00 UTC+8. A credit posted after the window may wait for the next cycle.

3. A PPLNS reward is awaiting a block
Check whether the pool has found a qualifying block and whether its confirmation requirement has been met. Under ViaBTC’s rule, six confirmations are required for the block-dependent calculation, and the lookback covers the last five difficulty rounds.
4. The address or rail is not eligible
Recheck the saved address, its format and whether the destination accepts Bitcoin mining payouts. If the pool requested a control signature, complete that step. Do not repeatedly replace the address while a security lock is active; follow the pool’s stated unlock or verification process.
5. The transaction is waiting for confirmation
If the pool shows a transaction ID or a sent status, the withdrawal may already be broadcast. On-chain receipt can remain pending until the network confirms it. Network congestion can lengthen this stage even when the pool has completed processing.

6. A fee reduced the deliverable amount
Small withdrawals can be charged differently from larger ones. The Braiins example illustrates this distinction: a payout below 0.005 BTC can incur a 0.0001 BTC fee, while 0.005 BTC or more qualifies for a free on-chain payout under Braiins’ terms.
How to compare pools before directing hash power
Do not compare only the headline percentage fee. Evaluate the entire path from share credit to wallet receipt.
| Question | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Which reward method is offered? | PPS and PPS+ reduce direct exposure to block luck in account credit; PPLNS is tied to qualifying blocks and a lookback window. |
| What is the fee for the chosen method? | ViaBTC’s table lists different fees for PPS and PPLNS, showing why method selection changes net earnings. |
| Are transaction fees included? | PPS+ includes a transaction-fee allocation, while ordinary PPS treatment is centered on the subsidy formula. |
| What is the minimum payout? | A lower threshold can reduce waiting time, but a separate small-withdrawal fee can reduce the amount received. |
| How often are payouts created? | Daily or time-window processing means the account can remain above threshold until the next cycle. |
| Which rails are available? | On-chain and Lightning have different limits, confirmation behavior and wallet requirements. |
| Is there a withdrawal fee? | Check both the pool’s fee and any stated fee for small or special-rail payouts. |
| What confirmations are required? | PPLNS and other block-dependent calculations can remain pending until the pool’s confirmation rule is satisfied. |
| Which address formats are accepted? | Unsupported formats can prevent registration or delay delivery. |
| What security controls protect address changes? | Two-factor authentication, payout locks and control signatures reduce the risk of redirecting funds. |
Operational and security practices
- Keep a written record of the destination, payout rail, threshold and time zone used by the account.
- Use a wallet whose receive address you can verify independently; avoid copying an address from an untrusted message.
- Enable the pool’s available account-security controls before directing significant hash power.
- Separate accounting expectations from cash-flow expectations: a PPS credit can be visible before a withdrawal exists, while PPLNS can wait for both a block and confirmations.
- Review the pool’s live rewards page or help center when fees, limits or schedules matter. Operational settings are not permanent Bitcoin protocol guarantees.
- For on-chain transfers, retain the transaction ID until the wallet shows the required confirmations.
Bottom line for miners
Think of a mining-pool payout as an accounting step followed by a delivery step. PPS, PPS+ and PPLNS determine how accepted shares become an internal credit; your threshold, schedule, address checks, fees and confirmation rules determine when that credit becomes spendable in your wallet. Register a destination you control, verify the exact rail limits and time zone, and troubleshoot by identifying which stage—credit, eligibility, processing or confirmation—is still pending.
