Beatport supports independent electronic-music businesses through several connected services rather than one all-in-one application. An artist without a label can deliver releases through a named independent distributor, then manage a public profile in Greenroom. A label can use Ampsuite for distribution and administration, and an eligible label can pay for Hype access to curation and promotional opportunities. Store exclusives, pre-orders, DJ charts, editorial consideration, remix contests and development programs add discovery routes. Each route creates access or an opportunity to be considered; none guarantees a signing, feature, chart position or sales result.

Choose the route that matches your business

Beatport says it accepts electronic dance music and requires music to arrive through either a label or an independent-artist distributor. That creates two fundamentally different release paths:

Situation Primary route What it solves What it does not promise
Artist releasing without a label Self-service delivery through DistroKid, MusicHub or TuneCore, as named by Beatport Submission of eligible electronic releases to Beatport without first signing to a label A label deal, editorial placement, chart position or a particular sales level
Existing independent label Label delivery directly through the label’s chosen workflow or through Ampsuite Release operations, catalogue administration and reporting across platforms That Ampsuite is the best fit for every catalogue or that delivery itself creates demand
Qualifying Beatport label Hype subscription Paid access to curation listening and consideration for selected promotional placements Automatic features, playlist inclusion or a guaranteed return on the subscription

Compare a distributor’s current fees, revenue share, rights and takedown terms, delivery scope, metadata tools and support before choosing. Beatport names these providers as routes, not as interchangeable services or endorsements.

How do I sell my music on Beatport?

Artists without a label

Use an independent distribution service that currently delivers to Beatport. Beatport’s support material names DistroKid, MusicHub and TuneCore, while its artist information describes the route as self-service distribution with no label required.

Pioneer DJ DDJ-FLX4 2-Channel DJ Controller, 16 Pads, Graphite | Easy first mixes, 2-deck growth, Smart Fader, streaming-ready, mic input for livestreaming from one device
  • The All-Rounder to Learn On: A simple, user-friendly layout inherited from pro Pioneer DJ gear makes it easy to start and grow
  • No Beatmatching Skills Needed: Smart Fader auto-adjusts volume, bass, and BPM so you can blend genres by moving one fader
  • Room to Grow: 2-channel, 2-deck control with 16 Performance Pads for Hot Cues, Pad FX, Beat Jump, and Sampler
  • Built for Streaming and Streaming Out: Mix from Apple Music, Tidal, and Beatport, and live-stream or MC from a single device
  • Plug In Anywhere: Connects to PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad, or Android by USB or Bluetooth with a built-in sound card for speakers
  1. Check catalogue fit. Confirm that your release is electronic dance music and that the distributor currently accepts and delivers that type of release to Beatport.
  2. Compare the contract. Review the provider’s fee or revenue-share model, rights granted, takedown process, payment schedule, support, metadata controls and delivery to other digital services. The available Beatport pages do not provide a like-for-like comparison of those commercial terms.
  3. Prepare accurate assets. Supply the audio, artwork, artist and label names, release date, genre, credits and ownership information in the distributor’s required format. Inconsistent metadata can affect search, catalogue grouping and reporting.
  4. Submit before your intended date. Allow the distributor’s review and delivery process enough time for corrections. A delivery route makes a release eligible for store availability; it does not place it in a feature or chart.
  5. Check the live listing. After delivery, verify the artist name, release title, track order, credits and date on Beatport. Correct errors through the distributor rather than creating a duplicate listing.

Labels delivering their own catalogue

A label can continue using its existing direct arrangements where available, or evaluate Ampsuite as an integrated label-management and distribution service. Beatport describes Ampsuite as able to deliver to major digital-service providers and social platforms while supporting one or multiple labels.

Ask whether the workflow supports your release calendar, territories, royalty accounting and existing direct deals. Beatport says labels can use full Ampsuite delivery or combine it with their own direct deals, so the relevant question is not simply whether it distributes, but which parts of your operation you want it to handle.

What Ampsuite does for an independent label

Ampsuite addresses operational work that becomes difficult when a label has several artists, territories and years of back catalogue. Beatport lists the following capabilities:

AlphaTheta Pioneer DJ DDJ-FLX2 2-Channel DJ Controller, Smart Fader, USB-C | Start DJing faster with an included DJ course, streaming support, and beginner-friendly mixing features
  • Made for Your First Mix: Designed for anyone thinking of starting to DJ, so you can learn quickly and have fun from day one
  • Smart Fader Does the Beatmatching: Automatically matches volume, BPM, and bass as you move the crossfader, even across genres
  • Start With the Music You Have: Mix from Apple Music, Spotify, Tidal, and more through compatible apps like rekordbox and djay
  • Grab It and Go: AlphaTheta's lightest, most compact controller runs on USB-C bus power from a phone, tablet, or PC/Mac
  • Play Your Way: Play through your phone or laptop's own speaker, connect external speakers via the 3.5 mm output, or cue on headphones
  • Delivery to major DSPs and social platforms.
  • Administration for one label or a label group.
  • Contract-management workflows.
  • Detailed sales and royalty reporting.
  • Content identification and monetization tools.
  • Transfer of an existing back catalogue.
  • Configuration options and client support.

Use those capabilities as an evaluation checklist. A small label may need only reliable delivery and statements, while a larger group may value contract records, rights controls, catalogue migration and multi-label permissions. Review current Ampsuite terms for pricing, rights, territories, data export and cancellation before moving a catalogue; the surfaced service descriptions do not establish a universal contract or prove that the service is optimal for every label.

Who is eligible for Beatport Hype?

Hype is a paid program for qualifying labels, not an individual-artist enrollment program. Beatport’s support eligibility page says a label must currently release on Beatport, have less than $25,000 in sales during the preceding 12 months and work in an eligible genre. The listed genres include Afro House, Dance / Electro Pop, Deep House, Drum & Bass, Electronica, House, Indie Dance, Melodic House & Techno, Minimal / Deep Tech, Mainstage, Organic House/Downtempo, Progressive House, Techno (Peak Time / Driving), Tech House and Trance (Main Floor).

Eligibility only permits access to the program. It does not mean that any particular track will be selected for a placement. Beatport’s Hype description says qualifying releases can enter curation listening and may be considered for store features, Hype charts, curated playlists and editorial promotion.

Euros €9.99 Price shown on the Hype page; applicable taxes may be added.
British pounds £7.99 Price shown on the Hype page; verify the amount for your billing region.
Australian dollars $14.99 AUD Price shown on the Hype page; applicable taxes and regional changes may apply.

Check Beatport’s live Hype page for the current price, eligible genres and terms before subscribing. The $25,000 ceiling is a preceding-12-month sales test, not a prediction of what a label will earn after joining.

How to decide whether Hype fits

  1. Confirm that the label has an active Beatport release and remains below the stated prior-12-month sales ceiling.
  2. Check that the label’s catalogue fits a currently listed genre.
  3. Estimate the value of curation access and possible placements separately from guaranteed revenue; there is no guarantee of either.
  4. Set a review date and track submissions, accepted placements, referral traffic and sales against the subscription cost.
  5. Cancel if the program no longer fits the label’s release volume or budget; Beatport states that monthly cancellation is available.

What promotion and discovery tools are available?

Label-side opportunities

Beatport’s label information describes several ways a release can be discovered:

Rank #4
Pioneer DJ DDJ-FLX4 2-Channel DJ Controller, 16 Pads, White | For learners and improvers in white, 2-channel 2-deck controller, Smart Fader, Smart CFX, mic and livestream ready

  • Store exclusives: Beatport says the majority of top marketing placements are reserved for exclusives. An exclusive arrangement can therefore affect placement opportunities, but the label should weigh that against any restrictions on selling through other stores.
  • DJ charts: Selected charts may appear on Beatport’s homepage and genre pages. Selection is editorial or platform-driven, not automatic for every chart submission.
  • Human curation: Beatport describes curation across genres, including the listening access offered through Hype.
  • Pre-orders: Beatport says pre-order sales during the 28 days before release count toward the first charting week.
  • Beatport Tickets: Labels promoting events can use the ticketing and event-promotion part of Beatport’s ecosystem where it is available to them.

Plan a pre-order only when the release schedule, artwork and metadata are stable. A 28-day counting rule affects chart attribution; it does not ensure that the release will chart.

Artist-side opportunities

Beatport’s artist information also points to DJ charts, social spotlights, remix contests through LabelRadar, demo submissions to labels and Beatport Next, an artist-development program. These are submission, participation or consideration routes. They should not be presented as guaranteed features, signings, prizes, bookings or career outcomes.

Greenroom: profile control for music already live

How to claim a profile

  1. Open Greenroom and select the relevant artist or label profile-claim option.
  2. Provide the requested identity, catalogue and ownership information.
  3. Wait for Beatport’s review and approval of the claim request.
  4. After approval, update the profile, invite appropriate team members, review catalogue visibility and add eligible event listings.
  5. Use the available analytics to monitor performance and inform release timing or promotion decisions; analytics describe observed activity, not a guaranteed future result.

Greenroom is for managing a presence attached to music already live on Beatport. It is not a substitute for distribution, and a claim request is not approved automatically.

A practical workflow for an independent artist

The following sequence keeps delivery, presentation and promotion separate so that a problem in one stage does not derail the others:

  1. Define ownership and credits. Confirm that every contributor, sample, remix permission and artwork element is cleared before delivery.
  2. Select a distributor. Compare current rights, fees, revenue share, destinations, support and takedown terms among the providers that currently deliver to Beatport.
  3. Deliver the release. Use consistent artist names and label metadata so the release maps to the intended catalogue.
  4. Verify the store page. Check the live listing and request corrections through the distributor if anything is wrong.
  5. Claim Greenroom. Once the catalogue is live, submit the profile claim and wait for approval.
  6. Build a release plan. Consider pre-orders, DJ-chart activity, social promotion, remix contests or a label demo submission according to the release’s goals.
  7. Measure without overclaiming. Record store activity, profile analytics and campaign timing, but do not treat a feature opportunity as a promised result.

A practical workflow for an independent label

  1. Audit the catalogue. List active releases, contracts, ownership, takedown obligations, territories and reporting needs.
  2. Choose an operating model. Decide whether existing direct deals are sufficient or whether Ampsuite’s delivery, contract, reporting, rights and catalogue-transfer functions would reduce administrative work.
  3. Confirm Hype eligibility. Check current Beatport activity, the less-than-$25,000 preceding-12-month sales threshold and the live eligible-genre list.
  4. Prepare assets early. Correct metadata, rights information and artwork before submitting to avoid preventable delays.
  5. Use promotion selectively. Decide which releases justify an exclusive, pre-order, chart push, demo campaign or Hype submission; these tools have different restrictions and selection processes.
  6. Claim and staff Greenroom. After approval, grant team access only to people who need profile, catalogue or analytics permissions.
  7. Review performance and costs. Compare actual reporting, placements and administrative savings with distribution, subscription and promotional costs.

What Beatport’s published performance figures mean

Beatport’s Hype material presents “84% more traffic and 40% more sales” as results associated with the program. The surfaced page does not explain the methodology, sample, comparison period or whether the figures apply broadly, so they should be treated as Beatport’s claimed results rather than a typical or guaranteed outcome.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The same page carries a testimonial from Lampé of Alula Tunes: “We received a lot of features that brought even more visibility. Hype grew our sales around 20% for one year.” That is one label’s reported experience, with no year stated on the page; it is not an independently established average or causal estimate.

Common mistakes and how to avoid them

  • Assuming distribution equals promotion. Delivery makes a release available; it does not guarantee a feature, playlist, chart or sale.
  • Joining Hype as an individual artist. Beatport’s support documentation says artists cannot join Hype as individuals; the program is for qualifying labels.
  • Treating distributor names as identical offers. Compare current contracts, fees, rights, destinations and support instead of selecting solely from the fact that a provider is listed by Beatport.
  • Ignoring eligibility changes. Hype genres, pricing and platform rules can change. Verify the live pages immediately before committing.
  • Claiming the wrong profile. Greenroom requests are reviewed. Use accurate catalogue and ownership information and wait for approval.
  • Overreading a testimonial or statistic. Attribute Beatport’s figures and the Lampé quote exactly; do not turn either into a promise.
  • Buying unrelated equipment to solve a digital problem. Beatport’s independent-business support described here is digital distribution, management, discovery and profile infrastructure; no physical product is necessary to use these routes.

How to evaluate the opportunity before spending money

Use a simple decision record for each release or label initiative:

Question Evidence to collect Decision signal
Can the release reach Beatport? Distributor’s current destination list and genre policy Proceed only when delivery is explicitly supported.
Who controls rights and takedowns? Contract language, term, territory and removal process Reject unclear rights or export obligations.
Does Hype apply? Active Beatport label release, prior-12-month sales, eligible genre Subscribe only if the label meets all current tests.
What would success look like? Defined targets for profile completeness, qualified traffic, placements or sales Measure outcomes against a baseline rather than a guarantee.
Can the team operate it? Permissions, reporting workload, catalogue migration and support Choose tools that reduce work without sacrificing control.

Beatport’s services give independent labels and artists more ways to enter, manage and promote an electronic-music catalogue. The practical advantage is access to infrastructure and consideration opportunities; the commercial result still depends on the music, audience, release execution, rights decisions and the selections made by Beatport’s teams.
