In ARC Raiders, quests and their objectives now award XP as well as listed rewards, while traders, the skill tree, the Outpost, and Reward Passes provide other ways to build progress. Expeditions are different: they are an optional departure-and-reset system, and departures are paused after the fifth Expedition, which closed September 29, 2026. Embark says they are expected to return with major changes in early 2027.
How progression fits together
Progress is spread across several systems rather than one linear campaign track. Quests provide objectives, XP, and other listed rewards; traders exchange or offer items; skill-tree choices shape a Raider’s abilities; and Outpost projects, research, and furniture designs give longer-term goals. Reward Passes track pass rewards separately. Expeditions are a voluntary departure system, not a routine step required to keep progressing.
These details reflect Embark’s Frozen Trail 2.0 update, released October 8, 2026. That update added 22 quests; the number is the quests added in that update, not the game’s total quest count. Read the Frozen Trail 2.0 update notes.
How quests and objectives award progress
Quest XP and rewards
Since Frozen Trail 2.0, completing a quest or a quest objective grants XP, shown alongside the quest’s other rewards. The update also changed quest-list sorting and revised older photo-taking objectives to use the new camera. Check the current objective text in the client for what to do and what reward is listed.

If an objective appears stuck
Embark included some quest behavior among the update’s known issues. If an objective does not register, verify its current instructions and check the in-game quest state rather than assuming that every step is functioning as intended.
What traders do and what can change
Traders have distinct roles, and their offers are not all permanent or unlimited. Frozen Trail 2.0 changed trader offers; use the in-game menus for current prices, stock, and rotation details.

- Celeste: trades materials used for furniture and newly introduced gameplay items.

- Apollo: gained a set of Epic Augments.
- Tian Wen: no longer sells Anvil and Hullcracker offers; those moved to a weekly Nomadic Envoys rotation.
- Cassio: replaced Ermal in this update, trades valuables, and may ask friendly Raiders for help with certain quests.
Launcher Ammo and Energy Clips have daily purchase limits. The patch notes do not establish that every listed offer is permanent, so check the live trader menu before planning around a particular item.
How the revamped skill tree works
Frozen Trail 2.0 revised the skill tree to make playstyle choices more explicit. In the middle of each branch, choose one of two skills. At the end of a branch, after investing the required points, you can choose up to two of its three skills. Embark said it may tune the tree further based on how players use it, so treat the current layout as version-specific rather than fixed.

How to unlock and develop the Outpost
Unlocking the Outpost
Complete a project to unlock the Outpost. Unlocking it gives access to a research station, and you can expand the Outpost with modules.
Research and furniture designs
Furniture Designs work like learned recipes: once learned, they unlock furniture you can craft. The first listed Outpost step asks you to photograph a farmland house. The update lists that step among known issues, so check the current client if the photo does not register.

How Reward Passes differ from other progression
Frozen Trail 2.0 replaced Cred with Reward Points. Points are applied automatically to the currently selected Reward Pass, so check which pass is active before earning progress. The Frozen Trail Pass has 60 levels split between Free and Premium tracks. Existing Raider Decks moved into a Legacy Pass, and already-unlocked rewards were retained. Only one Reward Pass can be active at a time.
What Expedition progress means—and whether you can depart now
Current availability
The fifth Expedition’s departure window ran from September 8 through September 29, 2026, and is closed. Embark says Expeditions are paused until early 2027, when they are expected to return with major improvements. The studio cited concerns including narrow departure windows, reward structure, and accessibility for new players. There is no current departure window to sign up for. What the fifth Expedition changed
For that Expedition, players could opt out of resetting quest progress. Completing a Caravan alone did not sign a player up: players had to sign up during the window. Embark said there was no Last Call feature. These are details of the fifth Expedition, not instructions for departing now or a guarantee of the rules for a future Expedition.
Why Expeditions are voluntary
In an October 9, 2025 explanation of the Expedition Project, ARC Raiders design director Virgil described the rationale for avoiding mandatory wipes: “However, one thing a mandatory wipe does not do is respect the investment of those players who do not have as much time to play overall.” That statement explains the original design intent; it does not establish that every earlier reset rule still applies.
