ARC Raiders does not use one universal rule for progress and rewards. Raider XP, Cred, Raider Deck rewards, event Merits, and Expedition resets are separate systems. In the June 2026 Forgotten Relics event, relic Merits required a successful extraction with the relic in hand; that event rule does not establish that all quest rewards require extraction.
Which kind of progress are you trying to earn?
“Progress” can mean several different things in ARC Raiders. Raider XP advances your Raider level and grants skill points. Cred is earned through play and challenges and is spent on Raider Deck rewards. Event progress can use its own reward rules, while an Expedition can reset some character progress if you choose to depart. Those systems overlap in ordinary play, but the official descriptions do not treat them as interchangeable.
The practical question is not simply whether you extracted. It is what activity or reward track you are asking about. For example, the official June 2026 Forgotten Relics update explicitly made extra Merits from found relics conditional on extraction. It does not say that ordinary quests, all XP, or every reward use that same condition.

Raider XP advances levels
Embark’s gameplay FAQ says Raiders collect XP through activities topside. XP advances Raider levels, and each level grants a skill point that can be spent on abilities. This is the level-and-skills track; it should not be confused with Cred or a particular event currency.

Cred unlocks Raider Deck rewards
The same FAQ describes Cred as a separate reward currency earned by playing and completing challenges, including small topside objectives. Players spend Cred to unlock rewards in Raider Decks. Earning Cred therefore answers a different question from gaining a level: it contributes to unlocking Deck rewards rather than directly serving as the XP measure for Raider level.
The FAQ’s description does not say that every quest gives XP, every challenge awards the same amount of Cred, or that all challenge rewards require extraction. Those broader rules should not be inferred from its overview of activities, challenges, levels, and Decks.
When successful extraction matters to an event reward
Forgotten Relics: XP Merits versus relic Merits
In Live Update 1.33.0, published June 16, 2026, Embark described the Forgotten Relics event. XP earned by playing on any map automatically converted into Merits toward event rewards. This was distinct from the extra Merits available for finding relics: each relic had a Merit value based on its rarity, and the Raider had to successfully extract with that relic in hand to claim those Merits.

That gives a useful distinction for this event. Playing contributed XP-based Merits automatically; carrying a found relic offered an additional event reward that depended on getting out with it. If the Raider did not successfully extract with the relic, the cited update does not say those relic Merits were awarded. It also does not establish a universal extraction policy for other events or ordinary quests.
Other named Forgotten Relics rewards
The same update said event progress rewarded the Saltwalker Outfit and its toggles. Merits also contributed to the Converging Paths project, which ran from June 16 to July 27, 2026. Listed project rewards included a Saltwalker color variant, a Sextant backpack charm, and Raider Tokens. These are dated details about that event and project, not evidence that the same rewards remain available now.
What happens to quests and progress in an Expedition?
An Expedition is a voluntary reset
Embark’s October 9, 2025 Expedition Project announcement described an Expedition as a player-chosen reset rather than a mandatory wipe. It explained that choosing to reset meant losing character-bound progress, including levels, skills, inventory, and workshop or crafting capabilities, while keeping cosmetics, awards, achievements, and rankings. The original announcement also described incentives such as account unlocks, cosmetics, and temporary account buffs.

The announcement framed the voluntary design around player choice. Virgil, ARC Raiders’ design director, wrote: “However, one thing a mandatory wipe does not do is respect the investment of those players who do not have as much time to play overall.” The point for a player is that participating in an Expedition has consequences for character progress, but the cited design describes the reset as a choice.

Embark’s Help Center says the Expedition Project unlocks at level 20. Its FAQ lists level, skills, and XP, as well as inventory, stash items, and crafting progress, among the things reset by an Expedition. It lists cosmetics and purchased items, Raider Tokens and Cred, Raider Deck progress, Codex entries, unlocked maps, and prior Expedition bonuses as carry-over items.
That Help Center FAQ was last updated October 30, 2025. It is useful for the general reset and carry-over distinction, but its list predates a later option to retain quest progress. It should not be read as proof that quests must always reset when departing on an Expedition.

The fifth Expedition added a quest-progress choice
In its August 21, 2026 announcement for the fifth Expedition, Embark said players could choose not to reset quest progress and continue from where they left off. The ARC Raiders Team described the change this way: “To address this, we want to give you the option not to reset your quests and keep your progress so you can continue from where you left off.” This is the clearest official statement that quest progress could be retained for that Expedition.
The option matters because the older general reset list and the newer Expedition-specific announcement address different points in time. The older FAQ documents the usual categories of reset and carry-over; the fifth Expedition announcement documents a later choice concerning quests. Do not assume that a quest reset is mandatory for every Expedition, or that every future Expedition will use precisely the fifth Expedition’s settings.

How the fifth Expedition sign-up worked
The fifth Expedition window ran September 8–29, 2026. Players had to sign up during that window and complete its challenge to earn rewards. Completing the Caravan alone did not count as sign-up. Players who signed up departed on the window’s closing date.

- Check the Expedition-specific announcement. Its dates and requirements govern that particular Expedition; do not substitute the older general reset FAQ for event-specific instructions.
- Sign up during the stated window. For the fifth Expedition, sign-up had to happen between September 8 and September 29, 2026. Completing the Caravan alone was not sign-up.
- Choose what to do with quest progress where the option is offered. For the fifth Expedition, the announcement described a choice to keep quest progress rather than reset it.
- Complete the required challenge if you are pursuing its rewards. Signing up was not by itself enough: Embark said players had to complete the challenge to earn rewards.
- Account for the departure timing. Players who signed up for the fifth Expedition departed when its window closed on September 29, 2026.
Those dates and steps are historical details for the fifth Expedition, not a standing schedule or guarantee of the next one. A new Expedition may have different dates, requirements, or quest settings.

The fifth Expedition’s quest choice gives players a decision rather than a single rule. Keeping quests avoids restarting that progress; opting into a reset means beginning those quests again. The sources establish that this choice existed for the fifth Expedition, but they do not quantify how long either route takes or identify a universally better option.
- Keeping progress may suit you if you want to continue your existing quest path rather than repeat it.
- Resetting quests may suit you if you specifically want to restart quest progression as part of the Expedition. The official announcement establishes the option, not a reward advantage for choosing it.
- Review the departure-specific rules before deciding. Quest retention was a newer addition in the fifth Expedition announcement, while the October 2025 Help Center FAQ described general reset categories before that option was announced.

What is not established by these rules
The official material described here does not provide a complete October 2026 list of ordinary quest completion rewards, a full table of what is retained after extraction succeeds or fails, or detailed rules for every quest item. It therefore cannot answer every case with a blanket “extract” or “you can keep it.” For a specific quest or a later event, use the current in-game objective text and the relevant official event or patch notes rather than transferring Forgotten Relics’ relic condition to unrelated content.
Likewise, the fifth Expedition announcement said it would be the last until early 2027 while Embark worked on major improvements. That was the studio’s stated plan as of the August 21, 2026 announcement, not a guaranteed return date or a published description of changes that had not yet been announced. Check newer official announcements for any schedule or rules issued after that statement.
