To request a refund for an iPhone or iPad game, go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with the Apple Account that made the purchase, choose “I’d like to” > “Request a refund”, select a reason and the game, then submit. Apple says some purchases may qualify, but eligibility depends on the country or region and is not guaranteed.
Apple generally sends an update about a request within 24–48 hours. That is the review-update window, not a promise that approved money will already be back on your payment method.
How do I get a refund for an iPhone or iPad game?
Apple’s official refund route is its problem-reporting website. The process is the same whether the game was downloaded on an iPhone or an iPad, provided Apple billed the transaction.
- Open reportaproblem.apple.com.
- Sign in with the Apple Account used to buy the game. If your household uses more than one account, the purchase will appear only under the account that was charged.
- Open the “I’d like to” menu and choose “Request a refund.”
- Select the reason that best describes your situation, then choose Continue.
- Select the game or other relevant purchase from the list and submit the request.
After submission, Apple provides a way to check the request’s status. Submitting the form starts a review; it does not automatically approve the refund.

What to have ready before you start
Have the Apple receipt or invoice available, especially if the game title is not obvious on your bank statement. The receipt identifies the purchased item and the Apple Account used. Knowing the exact account reduces the most common cause of an empty purchase list. If several purchases were billed together, note the total amount and approximate date so you can match the correct line in purchase history.
Use the reason that most accurately describes what happened. Apple’s form is a request for review, not a self-service cancellation button, so selecting a reason does not guarantee approval. Keep the confirmation and any status information until the matter is resolved.
How long does an App Store refund take?
Apple says to expect an update on the request within 24 to 48 hours. The update may indicate whether Apple approved or declined the request, or provide another status. The 24–48-hour figure applies to hearing back about the request, not necessarily to receiving money.

If Apple approves the refund, the return to your original payment method can take additional time. The exact delay depends on the payment method and financial institution, and Apple does not publish one universal number of days for every method. Do not treat the 24–48-hour estimate as a guarantee that the funds will be visible in your account by then.
If the status has not changed after the stated review window, check the request-status option on the same Apple website and make sure you are signed in to the purchasing account. Avoid filing duplicate requests for the same transaction while waiting, because the original request is the one Apple is reviewing.
Can I get a refund for an App Store game?
Apple’s wording is conditional: “Some purchases from the App Store, iTunes Store, Apple Books, or other Apple services might be eligible for a refund.” Eligibility can vary by country or region, so there is no universal rule that every game purchase can be returned.

Apple also says customers retain protections provided by applicable consumer laws. Its guidance specifically calls out Australia and New Zealand in that context. Those legal rights are separate from Apple’s voluntary review process; the website’s outcome should not be described as a worldwide 30-day return policy.
A game can therefore be submitted for review even when approval is uncertain. Choose the reason accurately and provide the transaction Apple shows rather than assuming that a particular type of game, price or purchase date guarantees a refund. Apple’s Support page, published September 17, 2026, states that “refund eligibility might vary by country or region.”
Why can’t I find my game purchase on reportaproblem.apple.com?
A missing item usually means the site is signed into a different account, the transaction has not finished posting, or the charge was processed outside Apple’s billing system. Work through these checks in order.
Find the Apple receipt
Search your email for an Apple receipt or invoice. It identifies the item purchased and the Apple Account used. Use that account when signing in to the refund site. Searching by the amount shown on your bank or card statement can also help when several purchases were combined into one bill.
Check every Apple Account used by the household
If family members have separate Apple Accounts, sign out and check the other accounts that might have bought the game. A purchase will not necessarily appear in the account currently active on the iPhone or iPad. The receipt is the best way to establish which account actually made the transaction.

A pending charge cannot yet be submitted through Apple’s refund flow. Wait until Apple issues the receipt, then try the site again. If an order is unpaid, the outstanding amount must be paid before a refund request can be made. A pending card authorization and a completed Apple purchase are therefore different situations: only the completed transaction can be selected in the normal form.

Check whether Apple actually billed the purchase
Some digital purchases in some countries and regions are billed outside the App Store or Apple’s In-App Purchase system. If Apple does not show the transaction, identify the company that appears on the receipt or statement. The billing provider, rather than Apple, may be the party that must handle the request. Do not assume that downloading a game from an Apple device means Apple collected every related payment.
Look for a grouped bill
Apple can combine multiple purchases and subscriptions into one charge. If the statement description is unclear, open your purchase history and search by the billed amount to identify the game. The amount may represent more than one item, so check the individual purchase records before selecting anything for review.
Where do I check my App Store game purchase history?
On an iPhone or iPad, Apple’s current instructions use the App Store account menu:
- Open the App Store.
- Tap your profile photo or initials.
- Choose Apps & Purchase History.
- Tap Purchase History.
- Search by amount if the game title is difficult to identify. The list initially shows the last 90 days; use the available filter to select a different period.

Purchase history can help you confirm the account, date and amount before returning to the refund form. If the item is older than the initial 90-day view, change the filter instead of assuming it was never purchased.
Which billing route should you use?
The correct remedy depends on who processed the payment. Apple’s website is appropriate for an Apple-billed transaction, while an external checkout requires the provider named on the receipt.

This billing distinction is also useful when a game advertises an offer inside the app. The relevant question is not where the game was downloaded, but which company appears as the seller or payment processor on the transaction record.

What if Family Sharing paid for the game?
When a Family Sharing purchase is charged to the shared payment method, the organizer can inspect the family’s purchases. Open the Apple Account menu and choose All to display purchases. This can reveal which item was billed and help identify the transaction for the refund request.

The refund still needs to be associated with the Apple Account and purchase record Apple recognizes. Confirm the item in the organizer’s purchase list before submitting. If the organizer sees several similar charges, compare each amount and date with the receipt rather than selecting the first game that looks familiar.
How do I report a game problem from an iPad?
Apple’s iPadOS 26 user guide describes the same web-based route for a game downloaded from the Apple Games app. Sign in to reportaproblem.apple.com, select an option from “I’d like to”, and follow the prompts. The guide does not create a separate iPad-only refund system; it points you to Apple’s reporting website.
See Apple’s instructions in Report a problem with a game in the Apple Games app on iPad. Whether you begin from the App Store, Apple Games, or a browser, the transaction must still be identifiable in Apple’s records for the normal Apple-billed process.
Common mistakes that delay a game-refund request
- Using the wrong account: the site must be opened with the Apple Account that made the purchase.
- Trying before the charge posts: wait for a receipt if the transaction is still pending.
- Ignoring an unpaid order: settle the outstanding order before attempting the refund flow.
- Assuming a bank statement title is the game name: grouped bills can contain several purchases and subscriptions, so verify the amount and purchase history.
- Expecting an instant decision: Apple’s 24–48-hour statement is an estimate for an update, not automatic approval.
- Expecting instant funds: an approved refund can take longer to reach the payment method.
- Using Apple’s form for an external charge: if Apple cannot find the transaction, check who billed it and follow that provider’s process.
- Treating eligibility as worldwide: refund rules and consumer-law protections vary by country or region.
- Submitting without checking the item: confirm the game, amount and account so the request concerns the actual disputed purchase.
What Apple’s process does—and does not—promise
The process gives you a formal way to ask Apple to review an App Store game transaction. It does not promise that every request will qualify, that every country follows identical rules, or that approved money will arrive within the initial 24–48-hour update period.
Apple’s process also does not replace the billing provider’s process for purchases made outside Apple’s system. A receipt, invoice or statement entry is the practical evidence that tells you which route applies. For an Apple-billed game, use the official site once the purchase is posted; for an outside charge, contact the named seller.
